    That will work only for specific operations.

    A better way would be to do nothing. Modern operating systems (e.g. Linux) use spare memory for caching.

    Wrong! That would be the case if you actually initiated a connection (trying anonymous for ftp maybe). Portscanning is only to look IF there is a door/window.

    What is an accecptable use for a full portscan anyway?

    For example, our mailserver at local university has SMTP-AUTH (for relay from outside the university network) only on port 27. Try finding that without portscanning

    BTW, apart from traffic (which is minimal), what problems do you have with portscanning? You don't sue everyone for looking around your house. "Yes, officer, he was looking at my house, looking at the complete wall from left to right."

    And get a new provider which isn't that braindead. "Scanning ports is TEH HAX0R!!11!"

    The worst (or craziest?) attempt yet was by some nut who portscanned the system, port by port from start to finish.

    And what's the problem? That is COMPLETELY LEGAL. If you create problems for that other guy, maybe if his connection gets cut off from his ISP because of your complaint, YOU are responsible for the damage (false accusation). Seems you are one of those types going crazy about some other computer sending from port 80 to a high port on your computer.....

    Now they get on the list because of a person working for that blacklist-company with too much time on his hand (pun intended) and standard horny Joe User is now officially a "pervert" for trying to get to this site.

    Hmm... maybe you should RTFA yourself.

    They are blocking "web pages". So even if the block individual pages (which i don't think), there are normally more than 1 picture on a single page. Thus, the probability of a lower than 100% ratio of child porn to normal porn is very high.

    But maybe your comment was just an unqualified outburst from a guy which hasn't RTFA himself, or you just HAVE to post something with your oh so low slashdot ID. (ebay, anyone?)

    The most important advantage of the metric system is its base-10 system.

    As long as the number system is base-10, calculations are MUCH easier that way, and yes, it is also easier if you have to divide by 3 or some other number.

    I just can't believe it if i see some nuts posting "But with base-12 you can divide by 3 and 4 and 6." And? Being coherent with the number-system bears more advantages as to simplify division for utter morons who can't count to 3.

    Yes you can run it as non-admin user. But many braindead programs won't work then.

    I prefer working programs and a home-directory which i can backup -> all settings are saved with it.

    Image -> Mode -> Indexed -> Generate Optimum Palette. (256 Colors)
