Nope, sorry, this isn't a trailer. As it clearly says when you go to the site, this is a Teaser, which, while similar to a trailer, is not the same as a trailer.

This is the first hype of many and it's supposed to get you excited about the movie. Looks like it worked. :)

This is actually kind of the problem with employment at will: management can hand down whatever terms they want, and it's their way or the highway.

But it works both ways. I've seen highly skilled employees do the same thing. One sysadmin quit for about three days until they hired him back at a huge increase in salary. Granted this was back before we had so many tech workers looking for jobs. :)

I've always heard that in my state, KY, that everyone is an "at will" employee. We don't have to give 2 weeks notice or anything (though, if you want a good recommedation you do) and that you could quit or be fired without reason. What's are the laws like in other states?

Which rules out the annoying Verizon DSL calls I'm getting now because I use them for local phone service. Two or three times each month they call to offer me DSL service that I'm already getting from them.

Well that's assuming that every blank cd bought is being used for music piracy. If you account for software piracy, your $10 per cd retail figure is low and you only need something like 2 million (wildly guessing) copies.

Also, the argument that you wouldn't have bought it if you didn't steal it doesn't really get accounted for. It's like when a store's reporting something stolen: they assume that they would have sold it for full retail price, not that it would sit there until it was marked 75% off.

For people who hit the cap, the billing model would simply divide the $20 paid by the customer by the number of pages viewed and pay the sites whatever amount that turned out to be per page.

So, if I know I'm going to hit the cap during a month (say on the 29th), I could just visit my own server the same number of times and get half of the money back?

    For example:
Normal Page views by the 29th = 4000
With their formula, each server should get $0.005 per page. If I add 4000 views to my own server, that's 8000 total views.

    $20 / 8000 = $0.0025 for each page.
    4000 * $0.0025 = $10.

That's $10 for THEM and $10 for ME. The more I view my own server the more of my $20 I get back.

Seriously though, if they wanted to improve the network speed and cut down on potential legal problems, they should have been consistent and blocked all of the porn sites from the freshman dorms. 24. Some of these laws are (apparently) real on Dumb Laws · · Score: 1

At least one state, Kentucky DOES have references to the actual written laws. The one about baby chicks is disturbing when you think that they actually had to ban painting small animals (I assume for Easter). Like many other people, probably including the creator of this web site, I used to have a book of these kinds of laws.

In my book, an explanation was given for some of the dumb laws. My favorite was the law in some city (in Indiana I think) that made it illegal to exclaim "Oh Boy!" on a city street. It seems that there was this old guy that used to get young lads to do yard work and other odd jobs by saying "Oh boy, can you come help" or "Oh boy, would you like to work for me". Two teenagers heard the guy and harrassed him by shouting "Oh Boy!" whenever they saw the man. The man had some clout with the lawmakers of this small town, and a law was written to make shouting a very common phrase illegal.

    Kentucky Specific laws:
I used to live in Lexington and I've heard the ice cream cone in your pocket law since I was a kid, so it's either probably true, or a really popular urban legend. There is a statue of two little kids eating one ice cream downtown. I think of that law everytime I pass the statue. I think I might look up the law that says anyone who has been drinking is "sober" until he or she "cannot hold onto the ground." and file that one as a possible defense later in life. ;)

    >The problem I have with this solution is that you may start coming close to a wall, so you are fooled into walking parallel to it, then you
    >suddenly strafe when attacked, bashing into the wall.

Instead of just turning you 90 degrees to avoid the wall when you get there, one solution would be to keep you in the center of the room, even when you are nowhere near the wall. Imagine a big room with say, five feet square of usable space and five feet of "trickery" space. That way you'd always have that extra little room to go before you bash into a wall.

It would be fun to try to beat the system and see if you could touch the wall in one of these things. I think of that episode (aired again recently) of Star Trek Voyager where they go into a wormhole and everyone sees what they want to see (except 7 of 9, of course) but the wormhole is really a "monster" that's trying to eat them. When they finally escape, it turns out that they only thought they'd escaped and were really still inside. Any system that could fool someone that was TRYING to hit a wall that they knew was really there would be impressive.

All this talk of tricking the user reminds me of The Memory of Earth by Orson Scott Card. They solve the man's destructive nature problem by inventing a machine that makes your mind drift and think of something else when you think of a technological advance that would lead to weapons. In the book, our hero realizes that it's a trick and has to use willpower to keep focused on the task at hand. It's an excellent book as are the rest of the books in the Homecoming Saga (5 books).
