If you knew anything about computers, you'd not be shopping at Alienware. You'd be building your own or at least going to Falcon-NW or VooDooPC.

also, "it's" is a contraction meaning "it is."

So it's just DRM being called something different.

What's keeping someone from purchasing (or stealing an advance copy of) the album(s) and ripping them on their own and uploading? The files would have a legit watermark and the player wouldn't know you didn't buy it.

Until you have to defend yourself against an aggressive government. I'm a nutjob when it comes to this, but I believe that you should be able to own any weapon, including nuclear/chemical/biological weapons.

The people you'll have to defend yourself against will have them (Your government) so why not give them a reason to NOT use them by having your own?

This is probably what keeps me from getting people to listen to FreeTalkLive...

  5. Re:Won't help on Watermarking to Replace DRM? · · Score: 1

Well, all you have to do is buy the CD from a store with cash or simply steal a copy before the official release (like most big album releases online). If your name's not connected to the sale in any way, watermarking doesn't do much good.

  6. Re:Won't help on Watermarking to Replace DRM? · · Score: 2, Insightful

The question "Are there still watermarks in the file" isn't an important one, since they're not doing the job of DRM. DRM keeps you from playing the track, watermarking keeps you from.. doing nothing? Unless you have to use a special watermark-reading player to play the file, and if that's the case how is this different from DRM?

"If weapons stop crime, how come the USA, one of the most tooled up countries in the world, has so much crime and so many people die from gun injuries?"

Because of the gun control laws in place, funnily enough. If in this country you could easily and legally carry around a concealed firearm, criminals would be less inclined to attack you because it's legal and easy for you to have a gun to defend yourself. With the gun laws as they are, the odds are in favor of the law breaking criminal who HAS a concealed weapon who bets you aren't armed.

And if you let me walk to the store with my concealed weapon, the fact that I have one and you don't doesn't matter because the CHANCE of you having one is the deterrent.
