  1. What would be a better program on RIAA Co-Opts More Universities · · Score: 4, Interesting

is if the RIAA would give students a choice in the matter, instead of forcing Napster down their throats(who knows, maybe someone up there really loves irony) ie you could give me:
    a) a reduced Napster subscription price
    b) a reduced price on iTunes songs or
    c) a free "I None of these would have to be paid for from univerisity funds(I'm from Penn State, I still wonder where our mysterious funding comes from), it would give the users a choice, and the RIAA could still make boatloads of money.
Gah, people who think they have some sort of inate right to music piss me off, but not nearly as much as the RIAA....

Heh, well first off, Japanese religion is really a mish mash of Shintoism and Buddhism. It is not at all uncommon for someone to have a shinto wedding and buddhist funeral. But from my observations, the Japanese don't really take religion nearly as seriously as Americans do.
I could be wrong on this, but from my observations the Japanese are only religious when it comes to ceremony. IE they go through the motions(going to a temple, throwing the money, clapping your hands and ringing the bell) not because they have a deep faith in the motions, but more because it is tradition. Tradition holds very deep in Japan(as it does in America, Europe etc).

With the advent of wi-fi, I see a lot more people ditching desktops all together and using a laptop as their only machine. Why not? Laptops easily have enough power to check email, browse, use an office suit all at the same time. And you can take them anywhere. And with a low end laptop only a few hundred more than a lowend desktop, there really isn't the financial motivation to get a desktop anymore.
Desktops aren't dying, but the real growth(at least in terms of the mature world economies) will probably be in laptops in the coming years.

Fortunately I have a whopping 75 megs(that is a bargain $40 a megabyte) so I was able to download firefox, which at least makes using the machines bearable. Oh yeah, and, this was when the machine was new, I don't know if they fixed it now, but they have the internal speakers turned up pretty loud. I was just stunned that even in the little Tokyo suburb I was living in, the huge number of games for dreamcast, and ps1, ps2, and hell, they even had a huge rack of famicom games.
There probably are a few gems in there, but my guess is that most of the games are probably total crap. Maybe this just turned a lot of people off of video games. Look at the US market, whenever the market got hot, it was usually followed by a crapflood of games(Atari ET anyone?) and then usually followed by a downturn.
