Would that make emulators illegal then?
While there isn't any emulator out there today that can really do decent psx emulation, there are a few active, promising open source emus out there. Give them time...
at least VCRs will still be useful, a la the (slightly paraphrased) Family Guy quote: Two hicks in a trailer with their pants around their ankles arguing over a VCR
Hick 1:"Hey, it's my turn with the sex box!"
Hick 2:"N'uh, it's my turn, and her name is Sony"
The article does state that on a G4 powerbook, there is a slight, but noticible cpu spike when streaming audio.
Might be a clue something a bit fancy is going on here....
It supports it, but it's not mandatory. I wonder if the RIAA "influenced" them to make encryption of songs mandatory.
Hell, maybe this could create a new sport, instead of wardriving, you drive around till you find an Aiport Express house and change their Brittany to "The Chipmunks sing the Death Metal hits"
straws.
Japan's national debt rivals that of the US, despite the fact that Japan's GDP is only 40% of the US, though a mitigating factor is that Japan's debt is almost all domestically held, whereas the US's is held by a large number of foriegn countries, including ironically Japan. Japan's debt is 140% of their GDP, the highest in the industrialized world. The reason? Taxes are relatively low in Japan to begin with, but Japan insisted on spending it's way out of a recession by so many useless public works projects(which is why I cringe every time the US highway bill is passed), and failed miserably. It was absolutely amazing to me when I was there, I saw construction crews tear apart a perfect road to pave it again. I was dumbfounded(esp. since I come from PA, where they won't fix the roads even when they need it) And with the deepening pension scandal, where politicians didn't pay into Japan's pension system for many years, expect many more wacky taxes to come out of Japan..
Well, if you have a laptop or any device that can connect to the internet, you can turn it into a remote. All you need to do is, if you run Apache on your main pc, you can write a quick web front end that calls some Apple Script(well, not exactly sure how you would do that on a windows machine) that can play, pause, next track etc.
I would do it, cept I don't have $130 to blow on an Airport Express... I'm sure projects will appear on sourceforge shortly that accomplish the same goal.
It's not in the article, but in the WWDC Jobs mentioned that, "It's encrypted, so the labels will like it". I don't know how it is encrypted(whether it uses WEP or a proprietary encryption algorithm), so they will have to do a lot of toying arond to come up with a compatible product.
the more they stay the same. I think their nerd quotient is still as applicible today as it was 12 years ago: How can I tell if I am a nerd?
"Subtract the number of girlfriends/boyfriends/wives/husbands you've had from the number of computers you have owned. If the number is positive, you are a nerd."
Damn, I'm at +5....
But where do you draw the line?
Now you or I(or better yet, 49 of our closest friends) may be willing to pay $49 to download it then distribute it, but what happens if the company decides it wants to make $100,000 off the modifications.
Now they make it available under the GPL for $100,000. Now it becomes much harder for you or I to buy it. And it makes anyone who bought it less likely to distribute it for free.
Yeah, but you can get that same level of functionality for a lot less money. I seriously don't believe that a well equiped iMac with 512 megs of memory can load safari significantly faster than those machines. It's overkill.
were the IT geniouses decided to replace 3 perfectly functional iMacs which were used by students in the student Union building to check their email real quick in between classes(there aren't even any chairs) with dual 2Ghz G5s with a gig of ram and apple 17" LCD.
Meanwhile, the few macs available in the general purpose labs are slow and still are using OS X 10.2
Brilliant I say.
Well, how well does the handwriting recognition work(if it is even there at all, i saw no mention of it)
To me anyway, the allure of a tablet pc would be that you can write on it. MS software, from what I have read anyway, is pretty nice in recognizing handwriting.
Apple appearently has had some handwriting recognition stuff included since 10.2, but has yet to really do anything with it.
I guess they haven't seen a worthwhile market for tablet pcs yet, or are still smarting over Newton....
Here is a simple response, RTFA!
If you are really an enthusiast, then you will be able to build a mod chip from schematics available online. The ruling only affects commercial distributions of mod chips, which are used almost primarily for piracy.
It's doubtful that the court will care. In the case of schematics, it takes a lot of effort to get a working mod chip. Most pirates just wouldn't bother putting forth that effort unless they expected a bigger reward than GTA for free....
Talk about trash!! A simple NO would have sufficed. Looks like he's made the most of his Business-for-dummies Manual. Man, why am I so angry over this?
Probably because he gets paid much more for spouting bs than any of us do for real work....
probably helps to make them more irrelevant. Before, I had to scour high and low for scant screenshots or game info. Now all I need to do is head on over to one of the multitude of game sites and I can get more info/screenshots/previews than I could ever use.
Kind of makes going to the shows a lot less thrilling, I already know what will be there.
Of course, the booth babes still could make it worthwhile!
Eh, I'm a democrat but I doubt it will make much of a difference, there are a lot of other issues that take precendence, and for most people, this is pretty much a non-issue. MS makes sure to donate to both parties too....
Heh, that wasn't what I was implying. I meant that I didn't need Apple's version of the card because I'm not driving a 30" display. So if it were possible to get the cheaper pc version of the card, I would be all for it.
I have a DVI monitor, but will the pc version of that card work in a mac? I know apple carries the mac version of the 6800 for $550 with the edu discount, but I don't really need to run 2 30" displays....
If you're upgrading, look for at least 128 MB of video memory in a card with Direct X 9.0 capability that installs into an AGP slot. Cards in the $150 to $200 range -- such as a GeForce 5900XT or a Radeon 9600XT -- will be a sweet spot
I thought doom 3 used OpenGL, not Direct X
Question time: I know the mac requirements will be different, but I just bought a dual 1.8 Ghz with an FX 5200, how badly does that vid. card suck? I have no clue when it comes to these video card models...
Well, an easy way to change the model is to only pay google a fee if the user actually ends up buying something from the site, not just visiting it. Then there is no advantage to hiring clickers, and the advertisers can be sure that their ad is actually working.
Would that make emulators illegal then?

You will have to hold down the action button while loading the cd.

till I find out what the min requirements for Duke Nukem Forever are.
