  1. Our recently installed solar panels seem to now be struggling to get sun!

Perhaps we now need to push for climate change remediation, as more and more cloudy days are affecting our production!

  2. Ummm. So what? Except that.... on Amazon Granted a Patent That Prevents In-Store Shoppers From Online Price Checking (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

If you are in a store on their wifi, and check an Amazon site; which then senses what you are researching, triggering Amazon to now offer an even better deal (potentially allowing selling at a loss), it looks like you may have made out.

So, then, now Amazon has undercut a B&M competitor, further forcing a potential bankruptcy (via ever-increasing lost sales).
Which, in turn, reduces Amazon competition.
Which, in turn, allows the STRONG potential for another Amazon monopoly.
Which, in turn, allows Amazon to jack prices back up.
Which, in turn, reduces the general shopper's ability to get a reasonable deal!

Sounds to me like we, the people, need to make our government ("By the people, For the people") step in and update our laws?!
AND, B&Ms need to make their operations more efficient, so as to compete w/ Amazon.

I was under the impression that you need to complete a circuit to cause current flow,

Birds have no problem perching on high-voltage wires.

Perhaps there is more to this story?!

I often struggle to accept what passes for news these days, especially that from "mainstream" outlets.

I find that the RT (RT on MiND TV and at RT.com) outlet seems to have a rounding-out delivery of stories, many of which never make the "mainstream" media.

While RT (Russia Today) is a Russian owned outlet, I find their periodic propaganda much easier to handle than nearly all of the US mainstream sensationalism and biased crap.

If the people that voted for Trump were to have watched RT during the last presidential campaign, I am sure Trump would NOT have been elected.
It seems obvious to me that a vast pool of people should not be voting at all, as they have been brow-beaten by mainstream media - not just news - into being corporate cronies.

Nice essay. Yet, I might beg to differ about the "no threat" perspective.

There is a real threat if beekeepers stop their interventions.
While honeybees are not indigenous to North America, they have since become an integral part of the economy.
As long as beekeepers work to proliferate the species, there may be a reduced threat.
Yet, if we did nothing to support honeybees, it is very probable they would die off virtually completely.
Note that China is so short on honeybees that they are manually pollinating crops - by the hands of humans!

  18. Re:What about natural bee colonies ? on A Third of the Nation's Honeybee Colonies Died Last Year (usatoday.com) · · Score: 2

Agreed. "Enslaved" shows a misconception about beekeeping.

Having a pet is more closely related to "enslaving" anything.
Bees are free to go. When a colony grows strong and big, usually as a result of the beneficial care of beekeepers, they will make another queen and half the colony will split with her. This is how the species propagates.
(Of course, saavy beekeepers would provide a new home for that swarm, and the cycle continues.)

On the other hand, if your dog does it's natural thing, like bark at a passer by, the owner usually shushes the pet.
Which is closer to being the "enslaved" entity here?

  19. Yet, in return, everyone needs to provide some service to qualify; unless disabled.

Any person with half a brain can see that one of the major problems with our society is the pervasive feeling of entitlement without justification.

I sacrificed and worked my ass off to get anywhere, and I object to the lazy drunk down the street not sacrificing a daily drunkenness to allow some brains to get out there and make some effort to be a productive member of society!

With what would amount to more welfare will NOT fix things; yet, would perpetuate half-brained feelings of entitlement and laziness.
I say that such recipients need to be required to meed some standards and provide some contribution for any 'gift' our government sees fit to distribute.
