Presuming this is a true story, it does lend an interesting slant toward robots/AI. If we can create a (robot/program) to do our job, then why not?! In this case, this guy created a program to do his work. Rather than give it to some corporate monstrosity to exploit and take many other jobs w/o compensating those that loose those jobs, at least he is (was) not another unemployed burden on society!
While not all of Islam is extremist, it seems prudent to be sure we keep those dangerous, ignorant jihadists from (ultimately) hurting mankind's scientific endeavors. This goes for ANY extremist religion or belief system (that is not based in real facts). It boggles the mind to ponder that mankind has gotten so far with science and technology yet still has perhaps half of our population stuck in ignorant (as in uneducated and narcissistic) beliefs; which hurt our civilization.
I can sympathize with those residents. A little extra traffic is temporarily tolerable. Yet, heavy traffic is not reasonable. The Community needs to take action like gating the community, or having traffic-limiting signs. I have seen this in places: "Local traffic only", or "Do Not Enter (btwn 7-9am and 4-7pm)". Folks choose a residence for some peace and quiet. That needs to be respected.
It certainly seems very appropriate to have a major class action suit files against both Microsoft and the CEO Nadella. Who the F!@& do thy think they are?! I demand my rights back, and your hands 'cuffed' from ever doing anything like this again! People of earth: WAKE UP! Boycott Microsoft! Discard their products until amend are made!
They never finished the work: If you add all the digits in 7824 you get 21; the multiply by 2 (the number to which A, B, and c are raised), you get 42!
Any real galactic hitchhiker can see this!
.... Will bouncing back and forth between these too opposing goals cause so much friction that the interwebs actually catch on fire?
The fire starts when illiterate, weakly-responsible people cannot even spell 3 letter words! However, it does signify who can be disregarded as TOO unaware TO listed to any banter about thew TWO 'opposing goals'!
The technical reasons for me are: 1) less stable than Win 7 (Pro), as many anomalous things happen, which are likely a result of #2; 2) Lots of things are done by default w/ Win10 - things that are generally NOT recommended, including settings best left to ME, not MS's heavy-handed way of stealing not only mkt share yet also #3; 3) privacy is compromised in a LOT of places: passwords, computing habits, where you browse and where you go. Win10 is an offensive attempt by MS to force users to upgrade so they can then boast how popular it then becomes - twisting, of course, actual statistics in their favor. HOWEVER, when deeply correctly configured, Win10 CAN be a stable upgrade. One just needs to pay VERY CLOSE attention to updates. And Do NOT do any version lower than Pro. Win 10 Home is totally closed to easy proper configuration. Even better, take the time to get a decent Linux OS installed. There may be fewer apps for it right now, yet Linux is on the rise! LibreOffice can easily replace MSOffice. And, it is much cheaper!
If you are afraid of CDMA-caused cancer, I suggest joining the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster; and then don your metallic noodle strainer hat. That'll save ya! (Was a study ever don on Pastafarianists?)
ALL governments that are FOR the people should enact, and act, on legislation to allow buyers: 1) FULL disclosure of a product and it's usage ramifications, and; 2) have abilities to OPT IN what ever 'features' / settings are deemed desired, and; 3) charge ANY company fees to allow any product to do ANY advertising whatsoever.
This cannot be a serious post! How did this article pass an editor, or even to/.??? Firstly, there are lots of truly qualified engineers working on more effective new solutions. i.e. realtime telemetry to satellites, for one. Request: Let all potentially good ideas pass real scrutiny among truly qualified engineers/scientists before taking up valuable readers' time.
USA can take a hard lesson here: Do the same for foreign retailers here. That will bring some jobs back here. FURTHER, at least half of all Indian peoples need to have been made here in the USA to be allowed in! AND, they must be taxed higher to be able to take our jobs, too. Call it TICS: Trans Indian Commerce Solution. Now USA gets a fair shot.
Republicans deny this Martian climate change. They insist oil companies continue bia on Mars as usual. Oh- wait a minute. We aren't there yet. Never mind.
The wrong person was arrested. The absolute idiot that exposed secure info should be arrested, fined, and banned from any IT job or function for life. Further, the HIPPA regs need to be made clearer and more encompassing, and enforced. If my info were in that compromised data, I'd be very angry at NOT Mr Shafer, rather the blithering idiot that made these data so available!
Dear Government: Please GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK, NARCISSISTIC HEADS: STOP giving terrorists reason for terror. Police Corporations for THEIR wrongs, which cause all but the shareholders to hate them. DO YOUR JOB RIGHT and you will not need to become 'Big Brother'; you will not need to hack into anyones' anything - phone, PC, PDA, whatever.
The general rule for driving in China is - no rules; and roadway lines mean nothing! I have been there! Drivers are insane! I cannot see this 'Straddle Bus' working, since other drivers ignore lines, signs, lights, and everything else! I once had a ride up the pedestrian walk in a cab! Unbelievable. Felt a bit analygous to a monkey with a machine gun!
Read as: "...as we seek to [monopolize another aspect of human freedoms]..."
Give us a break! MS doe NOT know what is best for everyone, in spite of MS's efforts to convince you.
Yes. He is responsible. Is this REALLY a valid question?! What is happening to SlashDot?

The aliens came down and ... saw Trump! Then said "Shhhhh! Be silent! This species is worth avoiding! They'll be extinct soon anyway."
Add a rule to the new open web: NO PAYWALLING!!!

Traffic is tolerable then.

I really wanted the answer to be 42.

Agreed on keeping the UK in the EU. If Trump wins, the whole world will need all the help it can get!

What happens when that sole support person goes away? I am sure that person is pretty old by now!
