green plug invented a technology (i assume its patented) that uses a chip (i assume they manufacture it) that has to be put in every electronic gadget on earth (i heard the word monopoly). and this will make the gadgets less competitive to the cheap clones...
someone explain to me why consumers should want this?
um.. so what else is new? its been 7 years since egypt introduced bar codes on the national id card. do you think ANY government agency have barcodes readers?
and how far will you go to protect the user from himself? maybe a "you are about to receive mail from a mailing-list, do you wish to receive this mail?" ala vista kind of thing?
no, as far as i know its not illegal. lots of nokia nseries have built in gps and they are being legally sold. and if you want those fones cheaper, buy them in dubai and show it to customs, so long as you only have that one fone, you can pass go.
i guess now, the govt. will have to take a stand or sit down on the gps issue now that those nokia fones are no longer flying under the radar.
notes is something like 50 usd per client i believe the domino server is free but dont quote me.
my preferred proferred solution is jabber. with jabber ( i read somewhere) you can set it up so that the admin can "talk" to his server and tell it to "do stuff" like reboot, restart the web server etc. via xml.
i hate to power off servers let alone to reboot them on a schedule. can you guarantee there isnt a rogue process that wont let go? eg. a badly written oracle shutdown script.
i have had this happen to me.. can you imagine, a server which is not functioning, but stuck in a state where it is waiting for the last oracle session to time out so it can continue the reboot and this is after ssh is off, network is off, consoles are off.. you cant do anything with the keyboard.
