here in egypt where we have 1. mobinil 2. vodafone egypt 3. etisalat egypt
the prices are more or less standardised to 1. text messages or SMS as we prefer, to be 30 piasters (pt) each 2. calls to be 30pt/minute 3. about 1le/mb data
all costs are borne by the initiator of the transaction. the other party does not pay to receive.
and just for your info: 1.00 EGP = 0.18 USD and 1.00 USD = 5.25 EGP
so basically, it comes down to: why is the user's phone bill so high?
i believe you should look at it from another angle. why does google feel the need to get into the browser business? me? i am hesitant to say this on slashdot, but it could be a google conspiracy, they already know who you email, what kind of mail you get, what you search for, how you write, what you calculate, where you live, they have pictures of where you live, they can pinpoint your home on the pictures etc etc etc. so the browser? coz it doesnt know what your favourite sites are. can google read you bookmarks? coz it doesnt know the links you click on via irc, yahoo mail, corporate mail etc.
conclusion: google wants to know where on the web you go. obviously, they want this to maximise their revenue stream
i dont listen to "modern music". give me 70's 80's or 90's any day. in my case, the "blanket license" is unfair to me coz i dont benefit from it. will i get a refund? or am i stuck with this microsoft license model?
optical connections are the nerves between your eyes and your brains. if you disable them you wont be able to watch the videos let alone your girlfriend!
why should the end user know the name of the server? it should be transparent to them. "our file server isnt working!" and the smart IT Tech Support guy maps it to.. "jane from marketing says SHE cant reach their file server" and he does trouble shooting at both ends starting at the server end to minimise downtime for the rest of the department.
freeloads? why? the isp is selling net connectivity to you. if they oversell is that your problem or theirs? by my calculation when the isp "fights back" and throttles your bandwidth et al they are not keeping up their side of the bargain. which is giving you network connectivity to the sites you want to reach
what irony! this site justecn or whatever is hosted at gator and they took it off line! right after i read another article which refered to hostgator here on slashdot! heh!
1.Reuters Messenger; a finance industry intended platform uses msn messenger.
i believe they have the whole shebang: a private network plus msn servers as well as a rebranded msn messenger.
2. "whats your hotmail?" is the method of asking someone for his email in egypt. and by automatic association, it is the person's msn messenger account
gasp you worked in an office?
i work in a 2m by 4m room. my table is 3m long and i share it with someone else. there are 5 working spots but in a crisis we can cram 7 with laptops. this number does not include spectators of course.
a crisis occurs roughly once a month. which is always one time too many for our nervous systems
my office is underground. in winter i dont get to see the sun. the rats and insects that live in false ceiling made of asbestos make noises as they scuttle around the tiles. but they don;t go near the vodafone (mobile) booster 2m away from my head.
i just recently discovered the consultant who did the hvac to the basement (yes, thats where i work) introduced the fresh air duct into the level and then stopped at that first room.
and no, the data center in the next room isnt too loud really. although, i wish this ringing in my ear would stop.
but what really bugs me are the insenstive clods who make me breath in second hand smoke.
hmm.. wonder if the intelligence guys are reading this.. tahiya ya masr!
microsoft will always find a customer or two who can be "convinced" to use this product with say.. SLES.
and when that happens, microsoft will turn the customer in to a marketing campaign: "see! there is at least ONE customer who thinks its a good idea!"
oh and the mc on that ad would be microsoft bob;)
interesting offer. but with or without the san?
so you are proposing a merger between blu-ray and hd-dvd?

what i love about "ask slashdot" is that the subject spawns lots of comments and several long discussions. but the question is seldom if ever answered
funny, i would have thought that polygamous men "exercised" more and the exercise extended their lifetime.

good question and to continue that line of thought: do these solar cell manufacturing companies use their own products to create their own energy?
