Nope, since he like most musicians ended up selling the copyrights to this music (something that I fail to see any argument for being legal in the first place) to the labels, even if he (quite obviously) wants to just give it away/change the price/whatever, he can't, he doesn't actually own it. then the label sack him and he makes a mint on the next album which is sold for $2 but everyone gets it because everyone reads the headlines.
Personally I preferred 5.1, 6.0 was great for having a DOS GUI... That meant I could run a WYSIWYG in DOS... That was something special in those days.
I had WP 4.1 for the Amiga and loved it. One day I was busily typing in a very log document and lightning hit a nearby power line. Once the power was restored I found I had only lost a sentence or two of typing, as I had auto backup running at the time. Best WP feature was ALT-F3 - reveal codes. That was extremely useful when trying to trackdown where some attribute was on or off.
Yea, if I remember it makes a.WP! file or something like that, which is a lot like the.file.swp file that vi uses for scratch. WP also has !BK files which did a similar thing.
Most of all though, WP was just a non-bloated word processor, I'd like to see someone make something similar as a patch for vim, because it does rock, well, maybe vim would be the wrong editor to use, but I still set the text width to
It's such a big shame that WordPerfect is now owned by Corel, because they tried the Linux thing ages ago and just dropped it, probably because they found that the free stuff is a better competitor.
I wonder if Open Office defaults to all the annoying rubbish turned on.
I really miss Word Perfect 4.1:o(

These days text editors (vim et al) have spell checkers, so there is little reason to leave the editor window. One nice thing that some of the DOS word processors could do was save text in a full justified layout, which made it useful for some things, which seems to have been lost to converting the text to man page format and then becoming a copy/paste monkey on those rare occasions when it's needed.
5.1 in mine and many others' eyes, flawless - I hear the reason they lost ground to Word was that Word 6.0 was cheaper, but if you noticed, they did bump the version numbers so Word 4.0 was not competing with WordPerfect 5.1, obviously a bigger version number makes a better product...
Sorry if I sound stupid, I should probably go bust out something in python... by dynamic you mean python is more like Perl:
my $var = "Could be a number, or a string, or a hashref";
or more like C#
int var = 102;
string astring = "My Happy String";
I'd think with the former perl like syntax the only way you could really parse the language in the editor and do good intellesense is to damn near compile the code in real time somehow. With C# and language like it, the editor only needs to look "skin deep" for the most part to determine the structure of variables and the language.
That said.. I'm no CS major, and alas I cannot write my own compiler. Not a superstar programmer here:-). http://xkcd.com/208/
But, intelisence can apply certain things to the variables, no matter what their type, since this can be done in the language anyway.
my $i = 4;
$i = func( $i );
$i = $i * 2;
What's to say that the value of $i doesn't become alpha in func? That could be optional...
Intelisense sucks anyway. Use vim and ctrl-n/p, it's much more sane than that method completion anyway. There's so many benefits to learning how to use vim that it's just silly to list it all here. I have to spend all day listening to people crap on about the latest addons to VS or whatever everyone is wanking over these days that it makes one just want to switch off and use something that doesnt come complete with hype, and it's more productive.
2- You must still be using JVM 1.0, nowadays JVM is faster than C++ most of the time No way. Impossible. int main() { return(0); } is much faster than public static void main( String []args ) { }, simply because copying the JVM into RAM takes some amount of time. More than copying a small binary. Oh, and don't forget the time it takes to run the JIT. What the JVM might be faster at than C++ is large arrays in memory. The JVM can allocate a large amount of RAM from the kernel once, and then dish that out to the calls that want memory, which might be a bit faster can making many syscalls for small amounts of RAM. Of course, some programmers grew wise to this and implement their own memory managers... In which case, most LARGE C++ projects will be faster than large Java projects...
What about the FreeBSD daemon (as shown on their site? Or the strange thing looking like a furball riding a seahorse on the OpenBSD site?:) thats a blow fish
Does anyone know of a laptop that is safe to use on the lap? I think I may have posted an 'ask slashdot' some time ago asking for opinions on laptops that operate suitably cool. Back in the day I used a Compaq 6400, but the screen broke. What I'm after is something that operates relatively cold, has a good battery life, and doesn't make much noise. This would make an ideal travel companion (for when I finally get my passport that is). I'm not that bothered about how much RAM/HDD/MHz, just enough to run OOo/gvim/perl/ff2 etc.
The best sys admins are the ones you never notice.
If the productive workers in a company never see or need to talk to a sys admin it's been a productive day for the admins. Bingo. So here's what you do:
Leave for a week.
When you get back, after you've managed to suppress the fires and riots, fight your way to Mr. Bean's office, talk him down off of his desk, get him to put away the spear, and tell him "that's why you keep us around." If he wants it quantified, write it up as "Number of Cannibal Insurrections Suppressed Per Week (Estimated)." A truly good sysadmin/programmer will work himself out of a job. All those little problems, with enough time problem fixing becomes automated, systems automatically balance and bad boxes are automatically pulled out of the server pool...
hehe.. I have been known to use windows calculator under Wine. whats the point when bash/sh/ksh has it for you?
echo $(( ( 2**4 ) + 4 * 3 ))
if it's more advanced then using something like this might be
better:
perl -e 'print 2**4 + (4*3.141592654)'
which is probably faster than trying to figure out why calc is not doing
BODMAS
Now, a $100 fine atop 5 months in jail doesn't seem excessive to me, but the felony rap making him unemployable does. Having the `indirect' penalties assigned to you for a crime being much worse than the `official penalties' is hardly a new thing.
By `indirect' I mean things like not being able to get a good job, being shunned/tormented/killed by people merely because you're a registered sex offender, etc.
By `direct' I mean going to jail, paying fines, probation, even having to register as a sex offender.
yeah i agree with that. sex offender is vague, but because of the big issues with this, it means a minor offence is treated as if it's the worst possible.
OK, even if the flaw was on Skype's end, it would be nice if the linux version was reasonably in sync with the windows and mac version. Maybe if more people were able to use all of the features of Skype on alternative OS's, they wouldn't have to worry about getting hammered and taken out due to an event like this. I still don't understand why Linux support is in version 1.4 while windows is up to 3.5 and has "amazing" features like video support. Oh well, until they at least try to get it right I'll stick with something else (Ekiga, Kopete, Pidgin). I agree, until then I have to rely on my own `motion` capture and FTP upload script so that people can see me while they talk. This isn't exactly secure, and I have to use htpasswd to ensure that only the person that I am speaking to sees me, otherwise it's a waste of my bandwidth to let the entire world view... Not that there's anything to see, but that's not the point.
Surely, it's easy enough to hook their system in with/dev/video... It's not like it's *that* hard, and as if the code doesn't exist already.
'strncpy' is an obsolete function that no longer has any uses. If you think it can be used for safe 0-terminated string copying, think again. I disagree, it's still got uses, but personally snprintf can be used for most purposes. snprintf is not standard.
Hex constants in Perl, like C/C++ have to start with "0", so the correct syntax for what you describe would be 0xCCCCC. Without the leading 0, the expression gets interpreted as a variable name.
no, octal numbers start with 0. hex numbers start with x. typo: no, octal numbers start with 0. hex numbers start with 0x.

Actually I have been trying to convince coworkers that if they need something immediately and it is a something I can answer off the top of my mind without interrupting what I am doing just IM. Reserve email for issues which will need me to stop what I am working on and spend some time writing an answer and in such cases expect a reply by eod or next day not immediately.
I am still obsessive about checking email so now I have taken to completely shutting down outlook and starting it once every hour.
Filters help and they would work even better if people would use the low importance flag on articles and jokes they forward. Dont get me wrong I appreciate the forwards but the flag would let me know its something I can look at at the eod. I use sylpheed-claws, and make and set headers in the email, it's pretty cool like that. I also use qmail+maildrop, it allows me to filter based on the headers. So people using x-face are probably people who are part of a social ring, so that mail can go elsewhere... gpg'd email can go else where too... It's a pretty cool way of organising things. There's also a simple perl script that I have to announce new mail to me, it just calls "a select" on the inbox.
Most of all though, WP was just a non-bloated word processor,
I ran WP4.1 WYSIWYG in about 1 Meg of memory. I think that says a lot.
IIRC only print view was a static WYSIWYG...Personally I preferred 5.1, 6.0 was great for having a DOS GUI... That meant I could run a WYSIWYG in DOS... That was something special in those days.
