This is exactly what I'm talking about. We need to "protect" the gaming industry? From what?! The industry makes billions a year - you don't think the gamers can figure out for themselves in a matter of a few months if this thing is for real or not?
You'd think the open market could take care of a shitty product with no backing. Don't you think that when people got ahold of it they could decide for themselves? Look at Daikatana - nobody was blasting it from day one and look what happened, oh so surprisingly:rolleyes: the market took it down 'cause it was bullshit. It didn't have some guy with what I guess he thought would mark out his place in gaming history and make an easy attack a startup company in an already difficult gaming market-place. We already knew it would most likely go the way of the 3D0 and the Philips CD+G system. My point here is that why did he feel he had to make it tougher for them? Gamers aren't big enough to call bullshit on their own? Seems like picking on an easy target for a little bit of publicity...
Does nobody here think a little more than the above posters?? Try substituting IL and [H] for some other two entities - maybe iD and IGN for instance? Would that make things different?
Really, what started all this? Why did Kyle take the first shot?? Why IL, why not some other bullshit company? Seems like a self-boosting crusade, no? ??? Nicely done, Kyle [H]. ???
I don't think it was ever released because Square had too much else on their plate. FFV was a MONSTER hit at the time and AFAIK, all the tech-oriented building players loved it. It didn't quite have the elegant, submersive story of FFIV but man, you could lay down some beats!!:D
At first I too thought that FFVIII couldn't hold my interest but after hauling through and "draw"'ing 'till I was full of all I could, the game became a masterpiece. I LOVED the story and I thought the attacks were just sick. Just pure limit breaks or whatever they were called. Purely laying down the beats - kinda made it easy but WAY too much fun!!;D
Has anyone asked the question of why does Kyle [HardOCP] have such a dick up his ass about this console? Even when this thing was first announced it seemed like their was a vendetta against Infinium Labs. I'm not a fan or anything, it's just strange that [H] would go after IL so ferociously and mercilessly when they haven't even had a chance to put their final product on the table. If this product fails out of the gates, a good deal will be due to the crusade of bad publicity that Kyle seems to have taken upon himself. Maybe IL is a bunch of assholes but how would anyone trying to start up a new company feel if someone made it their personal and public business to ruin yours?! Seems a little unfair to IL and definitely makes Kyle look like a unprofessional, childish little boy in the process.:P I used to have a lot more respect for the guy before these Phantom smear-campaign shenanigans...
The best in the series by far is FFV. To the true fan of the series it outranks them all. FFIV is a close second with a better story but less involved as it has no "job" system. Never forget FF1, tho;D
Doesn't this seem a little too much like the Records Dep't in 1984 who actively change the past records to alter things right out of existence? Kinda creepy trying to change past events to deny they ever existed!:(
good points and as for your third point I'd like to extend it to say that not only is being smart not a prerequisite for happiness for most, more like it's close to them being exact opposites! being happy is likely to be a gift to the simple! "Ignorance is bliss", no?
I guess if you're slow then you could lament over not being smart... but only 'til someone comes along and tickles you and then you start giggling and drooling all over yourself again!;D
I believe this is referred to as "the writing was on the wall". Dude, this design's been around for ages and is hardly a huge step forward. This "new" design was just evolutionary, not revolutionary.
yes, that moment does exist. just last night I "opened" a preopened iPod box and thought it was pretty neat. just wish it wasn't so overpackaged as now I have to tear apart the box just to recycle it.
Not sure why this was at -1?!! This is the best Luser vs. Luser I've ever seen!! Anti-linux apple luser pitted against an equally troll-skilled adversary in the form of an anti-apple linux luser! Amazing battle of the superpowers!!!:D
The only reason this release is good is so that we can all move along to what we're REALLY waiting for - the G5 Powerbook! nothing to see here, move along...:D
I agree that the monthly fee is like a rental fee. What you're not seeing is that you compare to renting, not to buying the games. If you rent six games a month, it's the same as the $30/month fee on the phantom. Now if you rent a game, do you get to keep it in your hand? yes, but only for 2-5 days or so. Now with the $30/month fee you can get unlimited games (hopefully there are a good number of games to choose from, that's the rub) and you aren't limited to the number of days rental that you are from a store. Instead of renting the same game four times just so you can finish it and then renting two more to make up your six/month, you can have it virtually forever and more and more games - not limited to six a month. See, compared to rental, it kills. Compared to buying, less so unless you suck at a game and play it forever. Don't know about you guys but once an adventure game is completed, it's shelved basically forever. That's why renting makes more sense in this case.
yes, except you're paying $29.95 for a monthly subscription, not paying per game you download. If your game gets corrupted, no biggie, download it again for free. Am I missing something here?

Like I give a shit about Karma on /., guy! My posts seem to have plenty of responses and if I do say so myself, they are thought provoking.
>>if you can find his address, I'd be happy to >>relieve the trees of having to produce it for >>him.
I wasn't being a troll, I was being serious. I would hope your e-thugging goes well for you in the future, tho.

yes, FFII and III were pretty much ass... ;D (But FFII had jobs, too!)

Although it's not work-safe, it's still a nice one to check out at home. But shit, I just got burned... :(
;D
Oh well, as long as I'm burning, might as well stick around and browse a bit...

I agree with you but since the iPod is yet to be FW800, I don't think Jobs thought it was needed yet! ;D

that's fantastic but why wasn't it this way in the first place?? doesn't quite make sense unless they want the extra $30us each time... :(
yet he was still better than you? :( that sucks.
... or divorcee.
It's already here and it's called Neon Genesis Evangelion and it's years old.

smart response.
