Some of us think it's "cute" that Zuckerberg has time to personally slaughter his meals, dress the meat, and prepare it. I wish *I* had that kind of free time and disposable income. Of course I probably wouldn't spend it killing my dinner.
One of the guys here recently got a Windows Phone 7. VERY nice. However, I was very annoyed that everything had to be done through Zune software. (Same annoyance with Apple & Itunes BTW.) But it really is a nice phone. I was quite impressed by the interface.
Actually, it's much better economically to have persons with disabilities support themselves through employment than it is to have them supported by taxpayers. It's perfectly legal and ethical to not employ someone whose limitations prevent them from doing the work required. However, it makes no sense to ignore a qualified applicant because of limitations that do not significantly prevent them from doing the work.
Now most video games -- (most of) those are visual.
Most websites, however, are information. Take/. for example. It's 90% text that can be viewed, or listened to as it is automatically read. It can even be easily transferred to braille although the equipment is expensive.
Sure -- flash games, animations, or videos are a bit harder -- but that goes with the the territory. But text-based sites like/., reddit, wikipedia, most forums, etc are all quite easy to make accessible for persons with vision impairments (in whatever degree). Generally all you need is a non-ajax version (although there are standards evolving to make ajax work).
Truly, computers and the internet offer an excellent avenue for persons with disabilities to not only be included, but also allow them to make valuable contributions that they might not be able to in a more labor-based society. From a purely economic standpoint, it's much better to help persons with disabilities be contributing members of society rather than shunting them into the role of simple community-supported subsistence.
It's annoying because either some sites won't work ("never ask me again") or it'll pop up 300 times asking for more storage.
However, if you use Firefox, you can download the "BetterPrivacy" addon and just wipe them every time you start (or close?) the browser. No more tracking. (Whitelist, etc available)
This. I have a partial personal history of my father that was done by some 3rd party who specializes in that kind of thing. Very valued. (It's audio, and of course stored digitally, but it's the content that is the great part.)
They only used certain trackers. I doubt they included (fex) Blizzard's updaters which probably provide a pretty hefty amount of traffic in-and-of themselves. But those wouldn't show up on most trackers I'm guessing since they probably use a Blizzard tracker, not a [website] tracker.
> If a manager doesn't save the company at least as much as his/her own salary, then he/she isn't doing his/her job, or his/her job needs to be eliminated.
No, if the manager doesn't MAKE the company at least as much as his/her own salary....
Trying to calculate savings is not only stupid, it leads to short-term "savings" that cost more in the long run.
> The amateur software development niches for Unix-type systems generally does not include breaking copy protection on games.
Well yes, that's true--because the games market for *nix is insanely small. And I'm talking about games that publishers worry about enough to weigh down with copy protection, not the 3000th clone of tetris. Yes I'm aware of the very few AAA games that have been made available on linux.
You can do it that way, but it's better to go into Acrobat settings under "internet" and tell it not to open PDFs in the browser. Then disable the plugin.;)
But EVERY document I've seen HAS javascript. I don't know what that javascript is, but I assume it's stuck in there automatically by Adobe Acrobat (not reader) or something because it's ALWAYS there. (Some 3rd party PDF creators might not put it in. I haven't tested.)
I had the same question. IIRC, someone did provide a source where Gabe had posted on a forum. However, what soothed MY worries was that they actually had the right attitude about giving the customers value (friends, redownloadable titles, etc) for the tradeoff of having to log in. If they go under, I won't feel at all bad about finding a torrent since I bought the game. Meanwhile, I'll support them since they seem to actually value their customers.
- GPS navigator - compact camera. - camcorder. - watch - document scanner - portable game console - mp3 player, video player - a bunch of other things from last century like voice recorder, calculator, radio etc.
Your GPS doesn't get traffic data. Your camera has a horribly small lens and is good only for taking 4x6 photos. Your watch can't be kept with you while doing anything active. Your document scanner is horrible quality. Your portable game console is limited by having touchscreen only and no physical controls. Using your mp3 player/video player (and any of the above) will deplete your phone battery so you can't receive calls. etc.
I get that it may work for you, but there's a good market for standalone devices for a reason.

The way I heard it, the Linux netbooks just weren't selling.

Are we reading the same website?

The question is usually phrased, "Do you want a PC or a Mac?"

Nutritionally identical. Doesn't mean they taste the same. (Also doesn't mean that Coke actually bothered to keep the same formula between versions.)

Computers & Internet aren't primarily visual.

It will be, but meanwhile there are at least 3 full games that play similar to DOTA. (Including 2 that were created by parts of the original team.)

I think you've just described "Garfield" or "Dilbert" rather than "Calvin & Hobbes".
