    Why not just calculate a tax based on vehicle weight at the pump for all california stations. Then we get profit from the tourists, and the residents.

    Yes, good point, I knew there was a good reason they needed to know what road I was on. How about binning vehicles by how many miles per gallon they achieve . . . and taxing appropriately at the pump by how many miles the drivers is going for that purchase ?

    Why not have the car's mileage checked annually and just get a tax statement then ? I don't have a problem with the concept of people who use the roads paying more for the roads . . . I just don't want to be tracked everywhere I go.

    And this would be the point of the discussion, from my POV.

    Where is the phone that can stand on it's own and say

    "I am a kickass phone, I get better reception that the cheap alternatives to the model containing a spare kitchen sink, my batteries last 3 months on standby or 48 hours of talk. I was designed to be a better phone, not a better way to carry eight devices in your pocket ! "

    I wish there was some imagination in the convergences. Can we please get a watch with a phone built in, instead of always putting a clock on a phone ? Lets try getting the equipments off the belt or out of the pockets and back into some sort of style.

    although more than half of the respondents said they had been ordered to alter findings to lessen protection of species, nearly 40% said they had never been required to do so. If I a reading this except correctly, that means over 60% of the responders to the survey had been ordered to alter findings. FTFA, 30% of the 1200 given the survey responded , that would be 360 respondants. so about 215 of the people who cared to return the survey have actually been ordered to change results , is that right ? I would think 215 scientists in the whole country being ordered to change finding would be significant, but this is just out of the 30% of the 1200 surveyed. Incredible.

    I tried to replace an aging redhat system with Mandrake at work , and found it had great fonts out of the box. Unfortunately something very subtle changed in some library, and one button broke on one users application. So I had to revert back to redhat and the lousy fonts. I have to work on a SuSE box at work, and it has really lousy fonts IMO.

    Apple is next for the religous right.

    Apple lures people into their world with products that are pleasing to the eye, functional, and stylish to the point of being sinful. Apple is like the serpent in the Bible, they will do anything to get you to try the forbiden fruit, even producing a superior product with a tiny form factor that is priced to try right now.

    Apple is working with the Devil, plus I heard they have BSD inside of them.

    indeed. I want my software designed by people living in the reality based community. Caving to religous and social pressures is really weak. If I wanted to run a Faith Based OS, I would use windows without a firewall.

    Having a cool logo is one of the reasons I liked BSD. Plus the ports, stability, and ease of instalation. I can't believe they would change the logo. This is seriously weak. Given that BSD is dying, I think changing the logo might be enough to finally kill it off. I suggest someone make them a nice RIP tombstone with some pretty daisies.

    I agree photoshop is non-intuitive, as is illustrator . . . But Canvas, IMO, has an incredible interface. I find it incredibly intuitive, and also very powerful. I'm not sure how well the interface would apply to gimp, since it's not exactly designed for the same work.

    Apple script is so easy to read, almost like english. Too bad when I try to script something from scratch, my guess at the english word that is expected is never right. Hopefully this will make applescript as easy to write as it is to read. I do most of my apple scripting in bash and perl nowadays anyway.

    Do you religiously tighten the gas cap until it clicks loudly for many clicks ?

    Sounds dumb, but the mitsubishi dealership told me that if I didn't the check engine light would come on, and they would charge me $90 to turn of the light.
