Indeed, One only needs to mention his boxen have a mile long log file from virii trying to establish a connection to get the pedants jumping up and down on their soap box screaming to stop the evolution of language.
I don't see how a report that says corporate users find linux just as satisfing as windows can be a bad thing for linux. In the mid-late 90's, linux zealots were pushing it as a windows replacement to windows users . . . well, now they are equally satisfying to the users.
This could make it very tough for MS to market windows as being worth the cost because of the increased user satisfaction.
from the cathedral and bazaar, that OSS has a frequent release cycle compared to closed systems. This exposes bugs and fixes them quickly . ..
Debian seems to have deviated from the frequent releases that make other projects more exciting. Granted they put out stable systems, but maybe the slow release cycle has something to do with the lack of interest.
If the central server is holding all the info, users have a legit gripe against the company who just compromised their data.
If it's on the machine, it seems to be a use at your own risk proposition.
From a companies POV, one of these options is slightly more attractive. Plus, it can be spun as letting users have controll of their own data, and not some big evil corporation.
The states should look into this, if the workers "owe" them tax, and the wages are so low they aren't getting any money from companies in the state that offshore, hmm. . . could be a slippery slope to go down.
Do offshore workers make enough to even have to pay state taxes ?
Can the state look at companies located within them, and hold them to the employment standards of the state for all the employess ? Min wage, mandatory breaks, etc ?
Could the state in effect say we want out money, and by not paying your workers the US min wage, you are depriving us of millions of dollars ?
Gawd I hope some of these slippery slopes start sliding against the corporations.
its so easy to camouflage yourself on the net that crafty political agents can try to fool people
Are unidientified bloggers really worse than when the government prepackages propaganda as a news segment complete with lead in lines for the network anchors to read as they segue into the "story" ?
I'll take a wild guess and say, In a word, contamination.
If I roll your hand in ink and blot it, I know whose ink I am looking at.
If I snap a photo, I know it's your photo.
If I don't clean my pipetteman and mix your DNA and someone elses . ..
you can't deny that your sample is glowing on the chip when probed with DNA recovered from the scene. It's not your DNA glowing, it's the contamination.
Who cares, this case is closed. Don't drop the soap.
interesting, I've always found that.org part of the name odd.
I wonder why they didn't just go with something not already in use, I think something like 'Cubicle' would have worked well.
They will build IE 7, and when it's done they can rewrite the standards they came close to supporting to be exactly what their browser does.
It's the easiest way to be standards compliant, otherwise they have to read and implement support for a whole lot of stuff the competition has already embraces.
My phone gets abused. It goes for rides in bags pants and jackets, it tumbles with me through bike crashes. It will get dropped. it will take a hard falls.
I don't think I want a mechanical drive in my phone.
It's just another thing to break making me upgrade a piece of equipment that never really needed a hard drive in the first place.
if
"Those of us with children can't and shouldn't actually be held responsible for raising said children"
is taken as insightful, what do you have to say to be taken humerously.
Those of us with a TV can't and shouldn't be allowed to controll the display ourselves, either through the power switch or changing the channel. We demand a single government approved freespeech network with all DRM content and no way to turn it off !
I belive you are entitled to a full , 100% , refund of that months payment. The service you paid for is the show, complete with "offensive content". If the content is tampered with before it is viewable, you just got screwed out of the product you paid for.
Censorship is a funny thing. I am offended by many blatantly ignorant statements on rightwing religous networks, such as fox news and scarborough country. Some people are offended by the George Carlin, The Daily Show, Real Time, great sex volume 9, or even Chapelle Show.
I developed a solution that I believe works for everyone. I hereby announce my intent to patent a method for preventing access of offensive content via the tuning mechanism of signal receivers which adjust the display to non-offensive content through a remote controll device.
If I am offended by someones kid crying in public, can I run up and put a piece of duct tape over his mouth ? Of course not, it's not my kid.
Well, why then should anybody get to put duct tape over the content I enjoy, it's my content. I paid for it. It's on a subscription service.
I'm out of the age range that really gives much though to what my ring tone is.
I think people who imagine how cool the ring tone will be during a meeting and such, should probably have to list that on their resume. I don't care to work with people who actually think about how cool a phone is to have going off during a meeting. I consider it very disrespectful.
14 years of gopher ! no pop ups/downs/arounds/unders no ads no pictures but it did have a clickable interface, and it might have been the beginning of the "everything I can see is the filesystem" revolution leading to the web browser/filesystem browser integration.
I've scored some really nice items on ebay, antiques and such.
The problem for me is two fold.
1) I can't see the items to get an appreciation of the quality, age, wear, and authenticity. I take the sellers word for it, which is generally very verbose and well described. I bid near top dollar and hope the seller is honestly describing the item. I'm a collector, not a bargain hunter.
2) A lot of people are on ebay, so if the verbose description of an item has the right words, all the collectors find the item. Raising the price for the seller.
The best deals have been from sellers who didn't know what they had, and listed it with some other unrelated item I was persuing as a package deal. It's very hard to find a bargain price for a well listed well described item that it in any sort of demand.
The best purchases have been at top dollar for good merchandise I would not be able to find locally.
I think it's a win for everyone but the bargain hunting buyers.

yeah yeah -1 redundant.

yearn for something random and fresh: voila, radio
this looks like something pulled out of a time capsule. It makes me laugh to see random and fresh used to desribe the current fm radio programming.
I'll take a wild guess and say, In a word, contamination.

you forgot people that realise they can't build a PC as small for the same price as the mini, in addition to trend whores and label sluts.
oh, it's quieter than a dell desktop too, lots lots quieter.
When I broke the law the "punishment" was try again and do it right this time.

FTFA
"Voluntary"
This seems to be about marketing.
" Our server can survive a 96 hour attack without a firewall, can yours ? "
It's not for people who care, it's for the people who reads glossy covered magazines about business gear and PHB gadgets.
I'm not doubting you, but I've googled on several occasions to find the file format specifications and couldn't find it.
Could you post a link if you happen to know where it's at online, or a reference to a book perhaps ?

Obviously it's sarcastic, but the funniest thing is that the post is moderated this as +4 insightful, currently.

so there's the possibility of very humiliating false positives.
Which means there is the possiblity of a lawsuit, or an out of court cash settlement. . . . yippie.
