OO kicks ass on linux. It just doesn't fit in with the OS X interface. Even basic functions like copy and paste doesn't work smoothly with native apps. Apple charges a premium for a consistent friendly interface, and all the X11 applications don't really fit in, it's nothign against OO.org in particular.
In my hands,
bzip compresses better, but is somewhere between somewhat slower and orders of magnitude slower on my system, depending on the options used to invoke the command and the size of the file being compressed.
gzip is fast, works on streams instead of blocks, and is available on nearly every system.
From the kdar home page, it looks like it keeps a catalogue of the files in the archive, but does not keep the catalogue with the archive.
If you loose the disk that was backed up, and the catalogue with it, is the kdar archive file useless ?
I use rsync to keep track of daily changes, and tapes to make backups. Tapes have the advatage of not showing up as a drive than can be destroyed if the system gets hacked.
Oil companies are businesses
Once again, your confusing what you said with what you meant.
Businesses exist to make money. People need to live in society, and provide for one or more people in most cases. The needs of a person puts them in situations they wouldn't place themselves because they need the cash to survive, and businesses are providing the cash.
I guess your mama doesn't show you the bills eh ?
If the price that commodity items trade at on the market have in fact become lower, the savings are not being passed on to the consumer.
Our electric rates are not cheaper than they were a decade ago, and many would use the term skyrocketing to describe the rates in recent times. Natural gas prices have tripled in the past few years. Fuel oil for heating homes are not decreasing.
Perhaps you could login and explain yourself you fucking retard.
not evil entities
You must have been born after Enron phucked over a large part of the country, and didn't offer so much as a reach around before the tax payers were forced to bail out the companies; all the while Bush stayed close to his industry buddies and told a large state holding most of Americas economy to go to hell.
The energy companies will invest heavily in this technology. They will buddy up with the inventors, and through business dealings put themselves in a position to aquire exclusive rights to the products. The original inventor will be bought out for a large sum of money, before the energy companies will bury the technology forever. The government will do everything it can to help the energy monopolies. because they pay taxes on the profits from selling us energy. People producing their own energy will destroy the energy companies monopolies, and reduce revenue to the government.
It's good to hear this. I have been putting off goign back to school because I thought 7 years out was too long. I have published consistently, and have a good track record for resolving difficult issues in my field. I wasn't sure if real world experience would work for me or against me.
People have a feeling it is their god given right to do things without first reading the contract, fine print, instruction manual, memo etc. I see it at the lab bench with experiment protocols, I see it in software use, and it seems to be a re-occuring theme in american culture.
I don't see any problem here, 10 minutes spent reading their contracts would have saved them 30-80 hours of labour at $10/ hour to pay of the bill.
One can find, for 10 dollars, unlimted text messeging.
I don't think a world with 95% of the population unemployed, homeless, and fighting desperatly for survival is utopia. Obviously we have different ideas of where this is going, but I think it will end up with a very small percentage of the people having a piece of the intellectual propert, or the factories that produce anything. The rest of the population will be doing irritating, meaningless work, for very little money. Purhaps just enough money to consume enough to keep the property owners in the position of power.
How do you know what you learn is right? Or that you actually learned it at all?
If you have learned the thought process that led to the discoveries, you have learned the right thing. The facts are recorded in books, only the process leading to discovery is important to learn. You know you have learned it when you find yourself on the frontlines of knowledge, and feel comfortable expanding into the unknown without someone holding your hand. You know you learned it right when others can walk the same path you blazed and find supporting evidence for your discoveries.
The only time it gave me headaches was when I banged my head on the desk trying to seewhat type of chipset my ethernet card had, and what type of graphics card was inside the box.
As long as you know what type of hardware you have, debian is simple to install, and very easy to keep updated. I think most people just don't like to read the text on screen detailing exactly what's going on during the install.
A company gets exclusive lands rights to all the exits on a 4000 mile strip of highway, the toll booths, and will be taxing the transmission of data.
I think this looks like a looser for the tax payers.
One minute the kids confusing galaga with a fighting game, and the next they are making insightful observations about the skater from 720 resembling gleeming the cube, while thinking they are playing skate or die.

Giving a child that happiness and excitement is probably one of the best things about being a parent. At least for the first four or five years.
I use firefox, and was not impressed with the ad. It looked like every other gimmick out there. The ad gave me very little reason to go get firefox, if I didn't already have it. I assume since they have an ad in the times, they are a profitable company trying to sell me a product.
They cleverly hid the price, and I've been around th eblock enough to know that if I have to ask, I can't afford it.
I haven't been using much midi equipment lately, but the only problem I've noticed is that my keyboard either doesn't get detected, or gets detected but fails to controll the synths even though the green bar indicating a midi signal is being received.
Perhaps Ballmer meant security as An instrument that shows ownership, instead of protection for users ?

the government should spend billions on cheeseburgers But we are already spending billions on pork.

a used imac and cover it with a beach towel when not in use. When it doesn't work anymore, buy another used machine for 50 bucks.

boxen /bok'sn/ (By analogy with VAXen) A fanciful plural of box
I wonder how one might use such a word
often encountered in the phrase "Unix boxen", used to describe
commodity Unix hardware.
OMG !!! just like the original post, it's a miracle. If it doesn't run windows anymore, that leave a unix family of OS. . . . idiot.

How does this lend itself nicely to base 5 ?

What midi problems have you been having ?
I haven't been using much midi equipment lately, but the only problem I've noticed is that my keyboard either doesn't get detected, or gets detected but fails to controll the synths even though the green bar indicating a midi signal is being received.
