The rules mentioned are the same for yer olde analog 35 or 120 cameras. The article should have been titled "the rules of photography," since there is nothing pertaining to digital in the article.
The problem is that their average might not be quite that. Usually the file sizes in large systems (operating systems and web) follow a long tailed distribution, that is the chance of seeing a very large file all of a sudden is not too low. So most messages during a certain day might just be about 5k each but then someone sends a 5MB PDF brochure or a zipped folder of "really cool images of sunsets or mountains" that are worth a thousand smaller 5k messages.
I am not sure if they can use email as official communication? There would be problems with repudiation ("we never received it"), privacy ("someone intercepted it who was not supposed to") and authentication ("it wasn't me who sent it, it was my dog"). Can they use an email in the court then? What would have to be done is to have all the messages signed and encrypted with a public key, and perhaps have some way for the sender to get a receipt back when reciever reads the message.
I never use caps-lock except back with windows 98 to test if the sytem totally froze. If it is so bad that the keyboard driver doesn't even get to run it's interrupt to switch the little light, it's time to restart. But with keys like Scroll Lock and Pause, even the Windows key - they are just as useless for me. I guess I am too lazy to find out how to remap them, I'd rather have them gone and have a bigger control key or a programmable macro key like some keyboards have.
I don't think it is as much these evil pirates out there risking their money and freedom to shoot in dark theatres just so they can put it on the Internet and get caught later. I believe that it is the people from the industry that leak the movie to their friends that eventually put it up for download. Most copies on the p2p networks are very good quality copied either from screeners or with a nice sturdy tripod - one that only a movie theatre employee would setup after hours during a "special" viewing. I know theatre managers that let their friends in and organize special shows for the unreleased movies. And it would be a surprise to Sony, but the night vision stuff is just another toy for the 16 year old kids who work at the theatres to play with.
That won't help. They imagine it's "us" the entertaintment world and "them" the evil pirates (with a handheld on their shoulder instead of a parrot). In reality the employees of the movie theatres are probably the ones pirating the stuff, now they'll just have cool night vision equipment to show to their friends.
I still don't get the point why would she bother to make a story like that. Back when I read it the first time it did seem odd that anyone would let her into the zone by herself. What if she fell and broke her leg or something, or had an accident. But I guess the risk made the fantasy so much more thrilling. I suspect she might have wanted to try to either publish a photo album, or was expecting that someone from the West would pay her to go back and shoot some more, or maybe invite her on Oprah. I grew up and lived in those parts and I know that as nice and hospitable as Ukranians (and Russians for that matter) are, they can also be liars and manipulators (learned from papa lenin himself). I think the young couple wanted to somehow make money off of it, which if true, would be very sad.
I think that the people who work on these projects are not "market oriented." They do what they do because it is fun and they probably could care less if some manager dude thinks the name of the software will offend or drive away the potential clients. Maybe it's supposed to drive away the people who lack a sense of humour./* flaimbait start */ Let them use microsoft products/* flaimbait end */
And besides, I don't think they copied the FreeBSD's devil idea, I think they got their inspiration from Dante Alighieri
He should have to pay for the time that was spent cleaning up his worm from all the machines. Alternatively perhaps he can do an hour in pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison for every hour spent getting rid of his creation. Even better, since Micro$oft with their lax security policies contributed to the spread of the worm, they should pay a $1000 for every hour spent cleaning the worm or send the windows developers in the same pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison.
Sorry for confusion, they are for older much older versions. And now that Redhat is cutting support and the lsi logic won't issue fedora drivers, I am using xp.
I was using Redhat since I have a RAID adapter (MegaRAID, now LSI Logic) and they only had drivers for Redhat and some older verions of Suse (all binary), so in order to use my RAID array I am forced to use MS Windows. But if it weren't for that I would use Gentoo probably, until they decide to do what Redhat did then I'll use FreeBSD.
But seriously, try something new. I mean with $13.00/hour you won't be taking a big pay cut doing something else. Try web design, volunteer as someone suggested, sell stuff on eBay or try pimping. Nothing says stable income as a bunch of crack whores.
I have read about a very similar patent in a Russian techincal journal ("Yunii Tehnik" the guys from former USSR will know what I am talking about) back in the early nineties. It was a proposal to change the shape of a wing using a compressed gas and some sort of a baloon inside the wing. The wings on some of the supersonic planes already can change their angle relative to the fuselage and that would have allowed it to change the profile (cross-section) too. Thick profile - good at slow speeds, thin - at supersonic. But don't quote me on this, I am not an aerospace guy, just remembered that article for some reason.
The more relevant factor than the cost of the device itself is probably the cost of the backup media. I know up until recently tape was the most cost effective media for data backup. If the the Son of Jaz disks are cheaper per megabyte and are just as reliable then I would consider buying one of those.
...is that they do have a rich imagination. That is wonderful thing to have, it solves problems, saves money, optimizes the use of available resources etc. I grew up in the Soviet Union and I am pretty familiar with that. The downside is that when there is no equipment or technology available to turn imagination into reality, there is danger of crossing the line into fiction and fantasy. For example, I remember how in a "reputable" science magazine they had an article describing how to build space craft that travel faster than the speed of light by creating vortices in ether. That was in 1990s and these Russian "scientists" were talking about ether as if everybody knew it exists and dismissed Einstein postulates as science fiction. That's just one example pseudo-science and there were plenty. The only way I would seriously consider the Mars proposal if they open up the details of their plans for scrutiny of the worlds' engineering and scientific community.
Does this remind anyone of Aphex Twin? He created a couple of albums using analog toys and circuits, including the sounds of the programs recorded on cassette tapes for the ZX-Spectrum computer (people from Europe will know what I am talking about), that was my first computer by the way a whooping 3.5 Mhz with 48K or ram.
Actually, on a more serious note, I would have to agree with you. The Americans somehow are more agressive and repressed than people in Europe. Here are some things I noticed.
Movies in theatres don't get censored that much for violent scenes as they do for showing nudity. Even the nudity or sex that is present in the American media is mostly connected with violence, or someone being hurt implicitly by being cheated on by their partner/spouse. The message it seems to be that killing, hurting, destroying is "o.k.", while something as natural and normal as a show of affection are "bad".
Perhaps it's not just Hollywood that acts that way. If someone on campus or in High School will start a fight everone will gather and cheer or just want to watch two dumbasses beath each other up. If I would just hug or kiss my girlfriend on campus, there will definetly be the "get a room you two" looks and comments.
Even the types of drugs that are "sponsored" by the govt. say a lot. For example everyone's favorite drug, alcohol, is legal and some states even have exclusive licenses to sell it. Why isn't it the same for marijuana? Both substances can be just as dangerous. Yet alcohol intoxication often leads to aggressive and violent behavior, while marijuana has the opposite effect.
Now if someone actually read down to this point. I should emphasize that it is possibly because of this aggresivness that this country has the best economy and one the best run governments. People just have a better work ethic and are also more honest, or at least appreciate honesty more.
ROFL Mod the parent up!

That's what I call a grill-out. BBQ sauce anyone?

So why was the link to the site included as text? It seems ironic...

Then energy consumed will slow down the moon and it will collide with the Earth. We are all going to die. Oh the manatee!

Well that was my 2 cents. Probably off-topic.
The Pope is Polish and bears crap in the woods.
.. the impact of thousands of Geeks trying to access their website at the same time, can they simulate that? - That's right! I didn't think so.
