This is what I'm talking about. When I think of liberal thought, it refers to tolerance of opinions, within the realm of physics; And if my effluent does not harm folks downstream, I'm free to do as I will in my own corner of the planet. The whole idea hangs on the presumption of a moral conscience and "reason" on the part of the citizen, which is where the fault seems to lay, as the ignorant masses support the criminal acts of the freebooters who've corrupted the system whilst touting the principals that they flout and subvert by their deeds. It's on television, so I guess Jerry Mander was correct about what that would do.

I have trouble with this current semantic confusion regarding the term liberal. The conservatives have adopted a posture claiming most of the core liberal tenets, yet truly adhere to the reactionary conservative approach to life. Liberal thought is what our country was founded on, but most have a poor concept of freedom.
I'd landscape a "lawn" of Lippia repens, if it was me, and comply with the local ordinance, without using ridiculous amounts of water. As far as that goes, a requirement to reuse household greywater to sustain our landscaping is something that should be implemented in all intelligently-run urban areas. Freshwater is nearly as precious as topsoil, and should be regarded as a finite commodity. IIRC, Orange has a kind of HOA approach to city ordinances, and the Has should have checked that out before buying into that scene. Representative democracy pretty much ensures that the stupids are in charge, so expect a ratcheting downward of all the good things.

Yeah, I'd heard that paraquat caused permanent lung damage, but that info seemed to be coming from the same source as the warnings about brain damage, so I didn't buy it. According to "them" now, it didn't cause any permanent damage, and coughing up that blood was probably unrelated, as are the chronic lung problems I've had since 1978. Just an unrelated anecdote, off-topic as usual.

Did you RTF... nevermind. I remember fooling around out there in a kayak back in the seventies. It took about two weeks to get the film washed off my skin, and I've pretty much been done with swimming, &c., ever since. Clean Water Act FTW! Another time I moved into a squat down in Hollywood, and I'm not even going to taint the pages of /. with a description of the conditions that wanted correction. Lets just say that Tweakers seem to be quite sub-human. My point is, if we're going to embrace sub-standard housing, we need to maintain a safe level of hygiene and control our sewage. There seems to be a strong correlation between stupidity and slum-dwelling, so guidance will be wanted in that regard.

Are my gay friends broken? Is my disgustometer miscalibrated? I have never perceived anything like that, YMMV. AFAICT the people in positions of power share your attitude, so you can casually disavow any responsibility for the persecution of these "broken people". I myself support some moderation on this issue. AFAIK no one has alleged that this unfortunate man ever personally acted on whatever impulses he might be feeling. Isn't the deviant urge punishment enough? As far as I'm concerned your opinions are as well thought out as the Underwear Bomber's, and probably not quite as well substantiated by facts.
