    Actually, 802.11n devices can use their array of 3 or more antennas (MIMO, Multiple Input Multiple Output) to detect the general direction of their counterparts and send more energy in that direction. It gets nowhere near your 125 miles, but it's quite an improvement over a/b/g-devices.

    Get your facts right. Not "every dang person" has a Sturmgewehr 90 (the name of the rifle), only around 200'000, which is 3% of the population.

    Women don't have to join the army, a very little percentage does. Many young men avoid the army by declaring themselves as not being physically able to go through the military education.

    There were 51'000 shooters at this years Schützenfest, less then 1% of the population.

    And about the terrain: have a look at Google Earth. Big parts of the country are more or less flat, most of the population lives in the lower part of the country. An invader would probably have no problem to conquer those parts of Switzerland.

    shouldn't they have checked all these patents and licenses before implementing them?
    Problem is, if they avoided all those patents, vlc wouldn't play much more than Ogg Theora and Ogg Vorbis. Sadly, all major media formats make use of dozens of patented procedures.

    This kind of idea pops up every so often, usually doesn't pan out since it's too hard to get everyone to change.
    They only want to change the definition. One kilogram will still be one kilogram, no matter how exactly it is defined.

    In mathematics, a Mersenne prime is a prime number that is one less than a power of two. For example, 3 = 4 - 1 = 2^2 - 1 is a Mersenne prime; so is 7 = 8 - 1 = 2^3 - 1. On the other hand, 15 = 16 - 1 = 2^4 - 1, for example, is not a prime.

    So, wouldn't it be more reasonable to only mark those media files which are 100% positive illegal instead of marking every single mp3 or avi file? Last time I checked, mp3 and XviD was still legal. Oh, wait, we're talking ??AA bullsh*t here, forget reasonable...

    1. How secure is this? IOW, does it rely on anything at all other than JavaScript on the client side, or does it hook into the OS on some level?

    Considering the fact that it works on Linux with Firefox and Konqueror (only in KDE 3.3.2), I don't think that it has to be integrated in the OS (which, OTOH, is no evidence that Microsoft actually didn't integrate it in the kernel :) ).

    2. If it does require anything other than JS - even if it does only require JS - is it Windows only, or have our good friends at Microsoft realised why a goodly portion of the tech community is, ummm, hesitant to accept thier 'vision' of what computing should be?

    As already mentioned above, Google Suggest works in Firefox and Konqueror (probabely also in Safari and Opera), no matter on what platform / OS
