Here's a picture of the box a mousepad I bought recently came in. The mousepad is about 25x20x1cm, the box 70x50x20cm (conversion to inches is left as an excercise to the reader). But what made me really laugh is the fact that they apparently couldn't fit in the other item of the order, a Logitech V270. So they sent it in a second box. No wonder they charge $10 for shipping...

The best solution is to crack the new encryption (worst case use brute force harnessing setiathome-style P2P networks to speed up the process), obviously.

If they guys who designed the copy protection have just the slightest idea of encryption, I'm afraid brute force is not an option. With key lengths of 256 or 512 bit, we couldn't get through the whole key space in a reasonable timeframe, even with millions of high end machines. And if we did, they would change it and we'd be back at square one.

OTOH, this is the industry that brought us the disaster that is CSS, so there is hope that they fcked it up again and some russian hacker finds an easily crackable loophole once the system is out in the wild.

Often, as was the case here, relatives will insist on keeping someone alive over the objections of the doctors.

I'd gladly give my heart to some poor soul with a perfectly working body, apart from the heart, instead of spending the rest of my live as a vegetable, even if it would be a self-conscious one.

CSS got accepted as a recommendation and browsers started to implement the language. This was the real test to see if the specifications where clear enough. Are there sections or parts of the first specification that you wish that you had written differently or emphasized more?
    Håkon Wium Lie:
All in all, I'm very happy with how CSS1 has stood the test of time. Compared to many other standards, there are few ugly compromises and not much feature creep. Looking back, I probably would have argued to drop a few features that havn't seen much use (first-letter and first-line), and I would have split a few overloaded properties ('display' and 'white-space' come to mind).

Good you mention Google ads. Google is the only major ad provider which I don't block. You know why? Because their ads are unobtrusive, don't slow down my system to a crawl with some badly written Flash and, God forbid, sometimes they are helpful! If all the other ad providers where as consumer friendly as Google, we wouldn't even need AdBlock.
