  1. Some thoughts on Schizophrenia Experiences and Suggestions? · · Score: 0

I once dated a girl who had this as well. She was in a phase where she was aware of the other personalities and could deal with them. I did alot of reading on the subject and here's some things I learned.

The alternate personalities are formed for several reasons, mainly to deal with a certain kind of stress. If they are having problems standing up to something, a different personality can form that will be a "guardian". Others will be formed to help deal with a problem that the main personality can't deal with (aka "It happens to them, not me").

The switches are caused by some kind of a trigger. The trick is to figure out what that trigger is and then your sister and those close have to learn to deal with that.

Now, you can run into some serious problems when the alts start to become aware of each other. Some of the alts can be so strong that they subvert the main personality of your sister. Once this happens, you need to get her professional help. Bad(tm) things can happen at this point, including self-inflicted wounds as the personalities start fighting for control.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of the books I read on this, but Amazon and Google were the main places I went for information on how to support her. All I can say is good luck to you and her.

Ah, but you miss the reason that rocketry hasn't expanded further. There's been no driving force. No "mandated" moon missions. No space race. No national pride riding on developing further. To sum it up, no Cold War.

Aviation was furthered because of 4 major wars in the last century. It didn't go from the Wright brothers to the 707. It went from the Wright brothers to the Fokker bi-planes to the Spitfire/FW-109/Zero/Corsair/Mustang to the B-17/27/52 to the C-47/C(A)-147 to the F-15/16/22 and the MiG/15-29. The passenger planes are just an extension of the military transport airframe. A missile still only has to travel so far to deliver a payload.

No argument though that Star Trek helps NASA. Maybe they need to convince people the Klingons are coming to further rocket science.

An applet platform? You're kidding right? Applets were, are, and never will be anything but bloated and slow. It was just an attempt to bring a desktop event model to the web. It failed miserably because the event models are entirely different. They didn't continue to develop it because they knew it was a lost cause. Even Microsoft didn't try to implement anything like it in .NET, which is supposed to do everything but tie your shoes for you.

Yes, this is canon. There was much debate over this on the StarWars.com message boards when the episode with Kit Fisto used a lightsaber underwater.

In the EU books, games, and the scene snipped from TPM, lightsabers do not work underwater. But none of those were canon. So, now it's official.

The 20th episode is supposed to intro the villian for episode 3, as well.

A very admirable sentiment and I agree. Problem with that will come when CNN issues a report with a link to McAfee's scanner/killer and Norton sues CNN demanding equal time and unfair practices. Then (anti)virus companies will start making deals to get their name and links into the stories and it becomes just another form of advertising.

So eventually you'll end up with McAfee sponsoring CNN's reports, Norton sponsoring MSNBC, and Microsoft Firewall sponsoring Fox News to say there is no problem at all and if you think Windows is insecure, you should see how bad $OS_NAME is.

Unix is huge in the automotive software industry. Most part store cataloging systems use it not only on the backend servers, but the terminals as well. Autozone, Hi-Lo/O'Reilly's, NAPA, Pep Boys all at one point used this type of a setup. Firestone also used it during the 90's when I worked for them, but I don't know what they are running now.

If SCO filed this suit solely looking for a suitor to buy them out, they picked a good one here. Owning the rights to the system that literally every major parts house uses would give them a huge push over the top in the industry.

I traded my PS2 for the XBox. I'd been thinking about it for a while since really all the PS2 was doing was playing DVD's for me. Then the decision really cemented itself when our step-daughter got one for her dad's house and we decided to get one for ours so she could play the same games over here.

I also hate the PS2 controller with a passion. Nothing has made my hands hurt more than trying to use the shoulder buttons on it. I thought MGS2 was going to give me arthritis. Then I see that KOTOR was coming out for XBox and PC only. Combine that with Halo, MechAssault, Burnout, and a controller that doesn't leave me crippled is a huge win to me.

I've also never had problems with the hardware on the XBox and I've run it for a long time on end too playing Halo/KOTOR (16 hours on the day it came out alone).
