Engineers at GSFC have acquired the suspect S-band source using the 4m CTA (Compatibility Test Antenna) here at GSFC (.jpg attached and no I’m not in the picture). They acquired the signal while the target was on ascent at about 2RE. Center frequency (CF) was between 2272.478 and 2273.418. The difference between IMAGE documented CF of 2272.5Mhz can be attributed to expected Doppler. Subcarriers are visible as well 1.7Mhz from CF as expected. The signal strength was oscillating. Plots will be forthcoming. The oscillation is not unexpected given IMAGE’s loss of spin balance.
All indications so far suggest that this is, in fact, IMAGE.

2. Why this system doesn't fail safe if the controller is taken down?
Yet another cautionary tale of IoT woe, but also some seemingly bad design...
It is actually failsafe, because the system goes safely to a safe state when the control is lost. The heater running at full blast would certainly not be failsafe...
This is just about how science is supposed to work, even when one model fits the observations its not necessary that its the right one. And as with the Higgs the standard model predictions are quite a dead-end when it comes to dreaming new and exiting physics so pretty much every theoretical physicist is trying to figure out a alternative, less boring, explanation for the LHC observations.
Best to just get the motherboard straight from intel, comes with NICs with great support, chipsets with great support, supported integrated graphics etc:)
The way this is handled in Finland that each isp has one outgoing SMTP-relay server that you have to use, you can't send the mail directly out. You can receive all the mail you want but the outgoing pipe has restrictions to prevent open/miss-configured servers, works great. (I have my own mail server with such arrangement on a static IP)
If you are a ISP I would suggest a similar arrangement to prevent all your customers sending spam:)
Read the FA:) The key isn't in the package, but is generated by characteristics of the intended target machine, you either need to brute-force it or find out what the target was.
If you would have read even the summary he got the casinos to play with hand shuffled decks defeating many of the card counting counters, also as mentioned in another comment in atlantic city black jack is considered a game of skill legally so card counting must be allowed.
The machines seem to be the database back-ends, and most of the large scale commercial billing/accounting/whatever applications like SAP want to have a unix backend. The users were probably all using windows workstations and windows apps that just communicate with the back-ends.
My experiences of abit boards are nothing less of horrible. For example the AB9 Pro motherboard's bios didn't use ACHI or left a whole sata-controller uninitialized depending on the version.

I have one of them and they are just a trusty old KT-2001 "ergoforce" keyboard sprayed black, it's sticker on the bottom and usb-id both confirm that.
While KT-2001 is quite excellent keyboard, the das keyboard is just plain overprized, also it comes in only the us layout.
Pity that I only have a tech demo kt-2001 as an alternative, as it's candy colour-coded spring stiffnesses are quite ugly, but atleast it has scandinavian layout.
Filevault uses 128 bit AES encryption and it should be safe, but as always with closed source crypto it's almost impossible to verify that there aren't any backdoors.
But yes, the file vault protects your data against mirroring the hard drive / booting a different OS and other access without the encryption key (which is encrypted by your password)
Excess heat can cause the lubricant of a hd to go bad and causes weird noises, also logic board failures/head positioning failures cause quite a racket.
In my experience most drives fail without any indications from smart tests, ie. logic board failures, bad sectors are quite rare nowadays.
Why oh why develop new fancy ways to authenticate that still rely on a one factor (the image portfolio) when 3 factor authentication (eg. username + password + one time pad with challenge and response codes) just works, as snooping the username and pw doesn't give you the one time pad with challenges and responses, and stealing the pad doesn't give you the username and pw.
That is the principal method of authentication used by web banks atleast in Finland and other sensible countries:)
Well, it isn't a sequel, just another demo with the same kind of themes. Also it is noteworthy, that second reality, a demo for 386-era computers, has also been ported to the commodore 64:)
As one of the many organizers for a large demoparty, Assembly I have to say, that each year brings more suprises in the 64k and 4k intro competitions, where groups create programs with executable sizes of 64kb or 4kb.
As already pointed out, second reality is worth seeing, and after that 1998 by Kewlers & MFX will show where we have gone from that.
What americans do first russians copy and make bigger and more rugged, eg. Ohio vs. Typhoon, american accurate small nukes vs. Tsar Bomba.. American elections vs. this:)
As TFT displays seem to be more common than CRT:s nowadays, the energy savings are minimal to non-existent, as the TFT backlight won't get turned off...
All SATA drives are hotswappable, it's part of the sata specification, only most linux sata-1 controller drivers lack hostswap functionality, sata-2 almost universal hotswap support on linux.

The deathstars were all 80gt PATA disks, manufactured by a single plant, had 8 of them, all failed.
