Installing software as non-root is certainly possible, the distrowide package manager just can't do it without write access to the package database and software directories (having them world-writable would just be bad), but with little tweaking of dpkg or compiling the software yourself non-root users can install and run everything that doesn't require root access.
Regardin Dune, it was first and foremost a book series, with several dramatizations, each more or less horrible, as the books contents just don't work on screen.
And when reading Dune, just stop after the few first books, as after children of dune even the faintest notion of quality just dissapears;)
With Iraq it was mostly case of "prove that you DON'T have any WMD's" other than "let us see if you have any", and as common sense dictates, it is way harder to prove that something doesn't exist than offer proof of somethings existence. There hasn't been any discoveries of WMD's in Iraq since the invasion...
Here in finland most locks are abloy ones, it's really rare to see any other kind everywhere except in cheap padlocks. But even abloy classic locks can be picked with few gizmos quite easily (there have been few criminal cases few years back) but I haven't heard of any easy attacks against the exec variant.
Always remember that cheap poorly designed locks will be easy to pick, and to some extent using a different kind of lock than the majority will add some lock security due to the needed research compared to just attacking all locks of the same kind, but then again as noted elsewhere, the locks aren't usually the weakest entrypoints to a house.
Yes, Israel has the right to defend itself as any other country would, BUT i call attacking the civilian population, the utilities and other civilian infrastructure the right response for a extremist movement kiddnapping two (2) people.
Also remember that you can't fight agains fanatics with violence, as there will always be another ones willing to follow the killed marthyrs. (for example take israelis actions in gaza, where it focuses it's attacks on the families of terrorists leveling entire city blocks in the process, creating many more desperate people who feel that israel has destroyed their lives.
Also bear in mind that the rest of the world excluding USA has condemmed the strikes, but USA can't even think that it's pet nation, the israel, would do anything wrong.
The most scary thing about this conflict is that there is only one major army involved, and it's attacking the civilian population, and it has nukes, all this happening on a already unstable region.

And nothing screams "hey, we want your traffic for free!" more than the submit to digg and submit to slashdot links bellow the small article...
As a automation engineering student I have to say that the safety measures of modern industrial robots have come a long way from what they were in 1981 when that reported incident took place and as pointed elsewhere in the comments, a industrial robot is little different from other machinery.
Currently most industrial robots operate in a designated area, to which all entrances have safetygates that turn off the robots when someone enters the area.
Remember that this is Sweden, not USA we talking about, in here the police doesn't have any more leeway when it comes to laws than normal citicens. (Ever so often we get to read about wich high up police officer got how big traffic tickets etc [the fines are based on income rather than being a fixed sum]).
So please try to remember that not every contry works the same as America (and I'm really happy that it's so, frankly America and the American mentality scares me.)
Already done by the Helsinki University of Technics automation department. It does preprogrammed routes, voice control and "power rowing" where the electronics assist a human rower.
Well, many other countries already implement something like that, in Finland if you don't get the various companies to show you where the cables and pipes are on the place to be dug or drilled you will be responsible for all the damages
The capital area of Finland also has a public transportation route finding service (http://reittiopas.fi/ which gives accurate and the most time-optimal (but not always the most practical) routes from address to address.
Keep in mind, that linux distros usually bundle several apps for the same task, and also that the apps are usually made by different people than the distro itself, so in no way is it helping to create a monopoly.
Even more importantly, the film is made in Finland, where we have a nice and clean justice system aimed for punishing the criminals justly, not just the poor one that can't pay the legal fees.
Even a confession isn't enough to get one conviced in here, you still need proof to go with it.
And besides the same group has made several star wrek movies already, this is just the sixth and by far the best.
I don't know about the states, but at least here in Finland the cameras have been placed mostly in intersections and places where speeding leads to dangerous stituations. Also all roads have clearly visible signs informing drivers that there are automatic trafic cameras nearby.
Also all pictures are taken with traditional cameras using film, so there sohuld be no arguments about photo manipulation, and in general the finnish justice system seem to be much more sensible than what passes for justice across the great pond.
Well, there was a big clifhanger and you would miss loads of plot and character development if you don't watch the miniseries and the first season, as unlike stargate and startrek, BSG has a plot, not just separate stories for each episode.
Acording to the archive.org (http://www.archive.org/web/petabox.php) they indeed have some redundancy, but not raid. They are operating each system as a separete node, and mirroring nodes.
The above link also sheds light on other questions regarding TFA
Well, I wouldn't count the new galactica as a "dreary, crappy rehashed program", yes the idea is old, but the series is something quite different from the old.
I would welcome more scifi series like BSG and firefly, where the characters play a major part, not the "hey, let's meet planet of the day" kinda series with crappy actors, like stargate.

The difference is that mdadm on linux gets notified for drive failures via a system call and thus doesn't need to poll the status and act like cron...

Accually, you needed load "$",8 for the listing of programs, load "*",8,1 just loads the first program :)
Maybe they also wanted to google/firefox to perform as badly as possible on the same dataset.

There have been 64bit debian packages for some time now, they just haven't been on the stable branch.

I wouldn't want a "decent" graphics card in my laptop in any case, as it would kill the battery life.

Fat on the other hand doesn't react explosivily with water like lithium does.

There was the miniseries before the real series, so there was season 0, sort of..
I for one welcome our new spammer overlords.
