Most of us are unwilling to buy a $600 phone and then hack it, potentially rendering it unusable. The application space for the iPhone are huge, yet we can't do dick.
I respectfully disagree with you. I think the correct sentence would be: Most of us are unwilling to buy a $600 phone and then hack it. PERIOD.
I (and i assume most people that buy a mobile phone) want a phone with a given feature set that just works (tm).
I find it hard to believe that a single employee has the kind of authority to issue monetary compensation without some kind of approval from higher-ups.
And even if he does, then Microsoft still has a problem, because then apparently something is wrong with their internal procedures.
4. My scrollbar in firefox doesn't work right. Is this normal?
Yes, the scroll bar sometimes breaks in Firefox on the Mac. I've found quality control lacking on the Mac version of Firefox, in comparison to the Windows version. Usually quitting and re-launching Firefox restores it to normalcy. I haven't found a trigger yet for this misbehavior. It never happens in Safari.
Same here. If you don't like the restarting option, press the Command Key + J.
This opens the download manager.
Close the download manager (Command Key + W).
Now scrolling should function again. Based on these steps i think it's a focus problem of sorts, but i haven't found a way to consistently trigger the problem yet.
Please please don't calculate US car prices by converting them from the price in Norway.
I just configured a basic car on the Norwegian volkswagen homepage, a Jetta, with a 140hp engine and basic color and no extras for NOK 308 710 (which according to Google is USD 52 597)....
A Volvo XC90 with some extras quickly reaches USD 125k here...
spotlight cannot index Thunderbird, the only desktop client I can stand using.
FYI: David Bienvenue has been making quite a lot of progress on making Thunderbird compatible with Spotlight. The feature is currently still in beta, but if you're interested have a look at bug 290057 comment 61 and further.

So instead i opened a new tab in Firefox, and pasted the bug number "361600" in the address bar and hit enter. Obviously i meant to make it a bugzilla search, but it's past midnight here, and i'm tired so i forgot to enter additional search terms.
Nevertheless, with only "361600" in the address bar, Google actually returned the bugzilla link as the top link.
Just thought that was pretty neat:)
i'm not taking any stance on DRM'ed music here, but the Euro commissioner is using logical fallacies and tops it off with incorrect facts.
'"Do you find it reasonable that a CD will play in all CD players
Last cd i bought didn't play in a regular cd player because of DRM. Pretty annoying too, as it was a birthday gift to my sis.
Also
but an iTunes song will only play on an iPod"
is wrong. It will play on a number of iPods. It also plays on a number of computers (yes, even Apple and Windows machines alike) and the songs stream just fine through my stereo via this device. In addition, the burned audio cd's also play fine on my car stereo, something which cannot be said for some original cd's bought in a store.
I'm not sure if you're being ironic or not. Anyway, i can't speak for Sweden, but here in Norway, the railway system is pretty crap. Along the West Coast it's non-existing even. In part that is due to the population density, but also nature (fjords, mountains) doesn't help in making a railway system economically viable.
Interesting graph that one! Without any finger pointing, i find it quite fascinating to see how the line showing the European emissions has leveled out in the last 30 or so years, whereas the line representing the emissions from USA&Canada keeps going up quite steeply.
Please stop saying this.
a) the issue you read about on/. concerns the music store (the iTunes Store) and not the iTunes program (iTunes)
b) both the iTunes Store and iTunes are fully legal in Norway.
So far, only the Norwegian consumer organization has raised the issue of lock-in for songs bought on the iTunes Store. No law has been passed, no ban is in place etc.
FWIW, that very same consumer organization has publicly stated that it is of the opinion that as long as allofmp3.com is legal in Russia, it is legal in Norway.
If your post is correct, wouldn't that then point out that there's something wrong with the legal system in the US ? After all, Justice is supposed to be blind, and something is either legal, or illegal.
But whether or not the jury likes huge corporations or hates lawyers should have nothing to do with the outcome of a trial.
Vista automatically turns off (or you can do so manually) all the advanced GUI features that take up RAM, CPU and GPU time when you run fullscreen applications like videogames.
Exactly what OS GUI is there to turn off when something runs fullscreen?
Am i missing something?
Why on earth does Gecko not render Acid2 properly?
The reflow branch of Gecko 1.9 does this. Not the 1.8.x branch on which FF 1.x and 2.x are based.
Significant changes are made to Gecko (see for instance the work that's ROC's doing on the inclusion of Cairo). It was decided not to change too many things in a single release and not to delay the release of a post 1.5 Firefox waiting for all these changes to be fully implemented/tested/matured.
So yes, there are Gecko versions that already render Acid2 properly. But the work at large is not felt to be ready for a release to end-users.
Please, please, stop repeating this. Standards Compliance and the Acid Test are only _related_ topics. The Acid 2 Test is not a proof of standards compliance.
Once people like yourself starting seeing the Acid Test as a proof of standards compliance, it stopped having any meaning. Programmers would/could prioritize those bugs standing in the way of passing the Acid 2 Test, while other, possibly more important issues wrt. standards compliance were treated as less important.
Even a moron in a hurry;) would understand that passing the Acid 2 Test only means you're passing the Acid 2 Test. It doesn't even mean that you properly included the standards needed to pass the Acid 2 Test. And even less that you're (fully) standards compliant.
But who will lead the company then through troubled times?
I know this can be read as being sarcastic or a Troll. But i'm not a organization expert. I'm just truly wondering how to decide when it's best for a company for the CEO to step UP and when it's time to step DOWN?
Actually....no. I think I'll just sit here and block the track so nobody else can get in a run:)
Sounds quite accurate for being M. Schumacher. Remember how he repeatedly tried to gain World Championships by crashing into his opponents . Even this year, he got punished for blocking the road for other drivers during practice after setting the fastest lap time himself.

Along the same line of reasoning, why doesn't Microsoft's own Zune product work with Vista?
