I remember reading The Sum Of All Fears in 1993 as my first Clancy book. I couldn't put it down and read it all the way through until 4 am.

Fast forward 20 or so years, and many books by Clancy. Then I started reading his Red Rabbit.

What a horrible book. His whining and rambling about how much worse the coffee is in England than in the US. How horrible the beef in Eastern Europe is as compared to the US. And making the same comments on this, over and over and over and over again. What a load of drivel it became!

Still enjoy playing the Ghost Recon games though.

  5. Re:Sounds like... on Apple Moves To Stop Kids Racking Up iTunes Bills · · Score: 1

Apple had a system in place for protecting against in-app purchases from the start (there was already a setting for this under Restrictions).
Also, one could simply sign out of their iTunes account before passing the iDevice on to someone else.

However, over time it became apparent that there were people that were not protected sufficiently by this either because they weren't aware of these options or because they weren't aware of the risk. So Apple included an additional protection for this when they updated iOS.

Simply a matter of progressing insight and now the "loophole" has been closed. No need to blame either Apple or the parents.

PS: not polite to reply to my own post: another thing is that The Netherlands was neutral in the first world war, and also claimed neutrality here. Even though France and Belgium had already declared war to Germany in 1939.

So when Belgium and France surrendered, they surrendered to a country they themselves were at war with. But when Germany invaded the Netherlands they attacked a country that had invested little in the military since the turn of the century and that explicitly chosen to stay neutral in the conflict.

  17. Re:French on French Judge Orders Refund For Pre-Installed XP · · Score: 2, Informative

Actually, The Netherlands only surrendered because the Germans flattened Rotterdam (an unprotected city) by bombarding it unannounced. After that they threatened to do the same to other cities in the country.

The other countries that you mention as having surrendered didn't get the same treatment.

Mozilla wants me to update from 2.0.0.12 to 2.0.0.13. Is there any reason I shouldn't just go to 3.0 Beta 5?
Yes, there is a reason. It is obviously desirable that people don't get automatically upgraded from a stable release branch (2.x), to a beta of the next stable release.

By the way, in about:config, the behavior can be changed by changing the app.update.channel string. In my case i have it set to "nightly". Have a look at the mozilla knowledgebase for a complete overview of the possible update channels.

    - zip the files you just extracted
    - change the extension of the zip file back to .xpi

Done. Now you made your add-on compatible with Firefox 3.1. This way you still can have compatibility checking on (for maximum stability) but manually change the one extension you can't live without (for maximum convenience).

If Apple wants to limit their devices thus limiting the usefulness to certain people then those will vote with their money. But third party software or hacks are equally unattractive for most people.
