I don't understand what he has to gain here. Is it a politicians job to make iPods? Not as far as I can tell. Is this what people expect him to do? No. What is his politican gain from this?
Nobody, as far as I can tell, will respond with: "Nice job, president". This won't get him any new voters (or at least, I truly hope it doesn't). It looks like a joke to me.
From the article, I get the impression Bush is almost claiming they invented all of those things entirely with the creation of an iPod in mind, which is obviously not true either. There was no foresight - the iPod was created using several of those things he mentions, sure, but those things were not created simply so an iPod could one day be made. This seems ridiculous. Surely there were far better reasons why researchers invented all the components with which the iPod was made possible - yet it's presented as if the iPod was the only goal here.
This is a strange speech. So, again, it looks like a joke to me - or possibly somebody spotted the potential for creating some internet hype here (because nobody checks facts on the internet, and any mention of apple and ipods gets lots of internet exposure) and decided to grab their 15 megabytes of fame.
I think the news is that machinma can be used to spread political ideas now. Arguably, this is not the kind of movie I would watch for my own enjoyment, as the acting is a bit stale, but still, it's there now, and available to all - where before it was only available to those who really wanted to put a lot of effort into the thing.
It's also not entirely a gesticulated recap of recent events, as the movie shows you what happened, but also gives you background stories to three characters lives - detailing where the frustrations of the kids came from - something that whilst it might have been mentioned, had never been shown the news. Maybe you didn't watch the thing?
You have a *right* to see them? Where does this right come from? Do children in the third world have a right to see these movies as well, then? Should we ship them television sets with DVD's so they can exercise their RIGHT to watch seinfeld - the right they've been denied all this time?
You don't have a right to any of this. You like to *think* you do, because that's how you've been justifying your piracy all this time. You're wrong.
I'm the first person to admit that I also download episodes of shows I want to see. I'm not innocent. I sure as hell won't allow you to claim you are.
Let's not be hypocrites here. Piracy happens for selfish reasons. Not because some people can't watch some shows, not because some people want to 'stick it to the music industry', not any of this. Selfish reasons! Admit it, or forever face my contempt.
Does anybody remember Mission impossible? "This movie will self-destruct in 5 seconds". That's what they need to do, instead of always coming up with these at best temporary anti-piracy measures.
Good points, but I think the reason they're not longer made lies more in that adventure games have to be completely original to sell. You can't steal other peoples ideas and put them in another setting the way you can in a 3D FPS. If your puzzles weren't original, your game was a bad one. If your story was bad, so was your game. Every adventure game required a tremendous amount of creative work. I guess it just doesn't pay off to do them anymore.
Neverwinter Nights 2 needs a good single player experience. It's the single most dissapointing RPG game I ever single playered through that I still couldn't put down.
I didn't know these were the guys that did Planescape: Torment. I figured it was some Udo Wiebel guy that did it.
Either way, if they can put some good, old-fashioned, richly detailed gameplay into the neverwinter nights game, possibly with neverwinter being a city as detailed as Sigil was in Planescape:Torment (possibly the best Town I've ever seen in any RPG game) - this will be a game to treasure.
They already got really, really close with the first game. Now let's hope they try and flesh out the game world, and enrich what is already there, rather than give the game engine more detail.
If they can do that, they have my blessing.
Sure, Tolkien may have become mainstream. But how many people know how often the word lembas is mentioned in each book? How many people would be able to quote gollem, right down to how many s'es are in each preciousss. How many people would be able to sustain an argument about how elves look like for hours?
Only the geek can do all those things. They can take away our culture, but they can never steal our lameness!
Actually, they probably use both. They'll use landmarks when they can, and use their magnetic compass for longer distances. Nobody knows exactly how this compass works yet, but there's no question as to whether or not it exists, as pigeons which are released with a small magnet attached to their heads can't find their way back.
That does not prove they have some sort of magnetic compass inside their brain. Maybe they're robots... or their brain works in the same way as a hard disk. But it is a good indicator.

Ahem. The breakthrough is that they're using virusses.
Not everything has to be 'biggest EVER' or 'smallest EVER' to be impressive, you know.

Brainwashing. Washing. Cleaning. Vacuum cleaning.
Am I stating the obvious here?

"Winds at 30,000ft are 20 times more powerful than at sea level."
It differs from regular windmills in that you should have read the article.
Never mind. Misinterpretation on my part.
You could even buy it when it comes out on DVD.

They can call it a Home CompAOLter (I meanth it!)
Yeah... like they'd tell us if they were!

No, people still care. There's a whole bunch of amateurs that are still making them.
check out www.agsforums.com - there are some real marvels floating around there.

they think this will stop people from writing XML virusses in the future.
Or maybe it's just part of their business plan. You know...
1. Patent XML files
2. ???
3. Profit!
