This makes me wonder what a physician's place in the modern world is. Given a set of symptoms a layman can do an internet search and find the most common condition fitting those symptoms, and also find a list of treatments. I guess physicians are supposed to be objective, but you could get a lawyer to do that. The prescribing of drugs could be done by a pharmacist.

If all you are going to do is apply a statistical model to your patients, you should probably be replaced by a computer.

I guess surgeons have a useful skill.

    • The PC gaming scene is all about a single person gaming at the computer. The Wii gaming scene is all about groups of people playing in the living room. I'm not sure that is a gap this product can bridge.
    • The pictures make it look like pointing is done by reading gyroscopes and accelerometers, which will be less accurate than the wiimote sensor bar+infrared camera.
    • They'll need to package this with a killer app, and I don't see it.

Copying somebody else and doing a half-assed job is no way to succeed in business. You've got to copy somebody and then improve the idea to make an impact.

Get an infrared camera like the wiimote and put some straps with infrared LEDs on a player. You could use this for some real time basic motion capture. It won't be very accurate, but could be good enough to recognize a head nod/shake, a person pointing or waving and other basic actions. Now use this in WoW and suddenly your MMORPG is a lot more immersive.

IBM has come up with a comparable product with better port design for $200 cheaper. All the reviews I've read for the MacAir say the solid state drive is worth the price.

I normally have this complaint when people compare PC prices to Mac prices. Yes, the cheapest PC is much cheaper than the cheapest Mac. The difference is the cheapest PC is a piece of crap; the cheapest Mac is a useful machine. If you upgrade the PC to have similar specs to the cheapest Mac, the price difference is minimal.

If you just look at home console sales, we see that the two leaders are both SDTV friendly, i.e. Wii and PS2. For some reason, MS and Sony decided to heavily market their next gen consoles to the HDTV community. Last time I checked, less than 15% of households had HDTV. They marketed so heavily to this group that the public perception is that buying a PS3 or XBox360 for your SDTV is like putting spinning rims your '72 Ford Pinto. You just don't do it.

On the other hand, Nintendo didn't promote HDTV at all. Instead they brought a product to market that was half the price of the competition. We can see by the numbers today that Nintendo made the better business decision.
