I could be wrong, but I think he was referring to organized businesses hiring employees for the purpose of farming gold, and then reselling it, and that was the business model.
It seems to me that all the early gold selling (AC, EQ) was individuals selling stuff on ebay, and not some sort of organized business.
Kindle is for reading books. iPad is for multimedia entertainment.
Reading a novel for hours on a backlit screen makes my eyes feel like they are bleeding. Even a half hour before bedtime will keep my head buzzing enough to where it is more difficult to get to sleep, and decrease the quality of the sleep.
E-Paper devices are perfect for reading because they are not backlit and reflect natural light almost like paper, so it is readable anywhere paper is readable (Try reading an iPad on a sunny day at the beach...)
Looking up facts and critical thinking are not interchangeable. I would say that the ability to readily look up facts on the internet allows one more time for critical thinking because less time needs to be spent on memorization and recall.
The only problem is that the SNR of useful information on the internet is horrible.
If their aim is to catch pedophiles then they won't mind if the only IP addresses they keep records of are ones that pertain to pedophilia related keywords.
People will go where the perceived value is, so unless one company somehow makes it look like you're saving money by being charged at a metered rate then all companies would have to do this simultaneously or it would be suicide for the first company to do this.
I have already received a technical support call regarding this.
"Help my computer is making alarm sounds I think something broke! Here listen to this! *holds phone to computer speaker*"
Using Panopticlick as a measurement tool, my computer went from being identifiably unique as 1 in 900,000 all the way down to 1 in 13,000 simply by enabling noscript. The most telling feature with noscript on was my User Agent string, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729), which if I was paranoid enough I could modify to something much more common, like internet explorer.
I think they point they are trying to make is that everyone is better off if they spend 100% of their efforts on stopping the leak rather than 75% on stopping it and 25% on discovering how much of an impact the spill is having. You can always spend effort on that AFTER the leak is contained.
There are many people who currently know how to use a computer but only have this knowledge so that they can perform simple tasks like typing a document and browsing the web. What happens when you remove the requirement of computer knowledge to complete these tasks? I have no doubt that we will soon see a generation that does not know how to use a computer at all because they will be using devices like the iPad to do their documents and their entertainment.
This will of course catalyze the decline toward the Idiocracy era.
Why not just get a motherboard with 8+ sata slots, a cheap processor, a full tower and load some *nix on it.
If you really need that many HD's I think that is your best bet without getting some professional disk array setup.
So called 'couch-multiplayer' titles can stay on consoles. There are enough bad PC games without bad console ports, I don't need more noise to filter through when deciding my next PC game purchase.
I do think this curated computing problem occurs when your software and your hardware come from the same place. It doesn't matter if the software is developed by third parties if you're still forced to go through a store regulated by the company also producing the hardware.
I have an iPhone and I enjoy it. I am able to tolerate the dictatorship Apple holds over my phone because to me it is a phone, and I've never had full control over any other phone I've previously owned. I will never tolerate it for a real computer or a device that claims to be/replace a real computer.
What with the library of congress archiving every twit and facebook allowing private data access to 3rd party companies, it seems like data retention is already being done for you.
It takes out a mundane part of a doctors day to day practice. Doctors are still needed to administer treatment once the diagnosis is found, and to make sure that the treatment is working and not causing any adverse side effects.
Does the plug-in call home with your browsing history for targeted ads?
A million gigabytes is what we call a petabyte.
Or...
One Thousand, Hundred Million, Million Bytes! Muahahaha!

There are more Londons in the US than in the UK.
There is only one London I know of that uses the GBP, and it just so happens to be the same one that University College London is in.

One can't help but wonder how much productivity could be gained if internet porn was not accessible in the U.S.

IATOOMA but maybe safety analysis for things like disease in foods?

Castle Wolfenstein? Is this some kind of Battlezone clone?

Call me when they can fit 9 inches of graphics card into one of these cpu.
You should be shown 2 or more models at a time and be asked to choose the best looking one. Rating each one individually on a scale is worthless.

"Blogger pettijohn went on the search for the best USB external keyboard with a pointing stick."
Is there such a thing as a USB internal keyboard?
and did anyone else envision him poking at various keyboards with a stick?

Cure does not imply permanence or preventative nature. That is your own misunderstanding of the word.
Man, that is flagrant false advertising!
I'm not sure if this is so much Apple helping old tech out the door, as much as it is Apple putting what they want on their devices and damn the rest.
For example, why don't the Macbook Pros have esata?
