Clearly the Rublicans have no plans to address it... so you can choose the other option, the Democrats, and let them have a go at it. They can't do any worse than the current administration so you've got nothing to lose. And if they do, then we're all completely fucked.
I wish my government would get off their asses and take this seriously as well.
Or I'd like to see, once they've split up in halves, have them marked. Remove the shelters, put them all back together again and put the shelters back in. See if they split up similarly each time or if the divisions are sufficiently random.
While setting up the "Internet time" on the router is nice, how about also having the computer in a common area in the place and the child is only allowed on it provided you are in the room as well? I know that that is my plan for future children.
The computer and the network are mine. And they will know that while they are on my computer and on my network I will monitor everything that happens on that computer.
Password protected bootup. Internet time. Proxies. Whatever it takes for me to sleep well at night knowing that my child isn't seeing some shit that they shouldn't be seeing OR speaking with someone online that they should not be speaking with.
I'm sick of parents who stick their kid in front of a television, console or computer and expect them to raise their kids and I will not be one of them.
And while conservatives may be more successful at the monogamy game than others
I think that's pretty much an assumption and I'm curious if you can link to anything to verify that?
I do know (or at least am quite sure) that I have seen some stats saying that divorce rates are higher in red states than in blue. Not that I'm saying it's all because of cheating... just saying that there have been stats taken about things like this and if you have anything to back up the quoted sentence I would be interested in seeing it. Thanks.
Look, I think Bush is the biggest failure to ever hold the office of the President, but it's quite clear that this scientist was also asked to fudge information under Clinton as well.
Both of your political parties are guilty of molding (or trying to) science to meet its desired ends. Perhaps Bush more so than Clinton. But as far as I'm concerned, any manipulation of science to further an end is unacceptable.
If you plan to hold Bush and his administration accountable for something at least acknowledge the same wrong-doing when it is (or was) the other party doing it.
I converted to Ubuntu a few weeks ago after a few failed attempts to move over to Linux. There was always *something* that kept me from keeping it. Poor sound support and other basic hardware problems were experienced with everything from Slackware to Fedora to Mandrake. So I gave up for a while.
I'd been hearing a lot of good things about Ubuntu and decided to give it a shot.
I'm impressed.
For the first time, I've installed a Linux distro where *everything* worked out of the box. There are some minor annoyances that I've encountered but the Ubuntu community is among the most helpful I've seen. There are countless Ubuntu-specific HOWTOs in Ubuntu forums. I'm thrilled to finally have this.
Kudos to the (k/edu/x)Ubuntu team for a really great product.
If everyone who smokes pot voted for the Marijuana party in Canada then they'd have some seats in parliament.
While there may be millions of downloaders in Sweden, I highly doubt that a) they're all of legal voting age and b) concerned as much about downloading copyrighted music as they are other issues.
Have you tried changing your BT client to use port 1720?
Though I've read that they (Rogers) have started throttling that, too. I don't do much in the way of BT'ing so I can't give any first-hand experiences, but my buddy did the 1720 switch when he noticed his speeds dwindling and has been flying again as before ever since.
Yeah, for those rich enough to afford it. Without a doubt.
And I think that "the best healthcare in the world" is a bit ambiguous. In which way? Access to the best doctors? Doctors having access to the best equipment? What good are the previous two if Joe Citizen can't afford access to those doctors with their world-class equipment?
Should a lower/middle-class family really be forced to go bankrupt because they require medical attention? Half of U.S. bankruptcy cases are the result of medical expenses with a large percentage of those having health insurance.
I'm not slagging the quality of care that is available in the U.S. because clearly they have some of the best minds, but it's hardly accessible to Everyman.
There was a kid in London, ON Canada (Keith Peiris) that started his own web design company at 11 years old. I believe he's around 18 years old today...
He received an assload of press. He met the Prime Minister. The youngest CEO in the world. He's been given awards from top companies (Macromedia).
Personally, I'm not a fan of his work... but that's just me. The kid is kicking some ass. He has done some NHL team web sites and many local and Canadian hockey-related web sites.
True, but to me it's the little things. When I first started with Ubuntu (still new to it) and I went into Synaptic and received a pile of errors I didn't know what to do. There's no suggestion to hit Reload. I figured it out... but a little bit of help there might have been nice rather than scaring the shit out of someone with a bunch of cryptic error messages.
That said, If I install Windows on this laptop the hardware support is deplorable. I'm hunting down drivers all over the map - some of which doing more harm than good. So I am by no means defending MS here. Just that each situation is different. If I were to give my dad a system of mine I would absolutely install Ubuntu on it and give him the hardware I was using (mouse, keyboard, etc) and it would work just fine. All he'd need to do is install updates whenever notified.
Off topic: As for your sig... I am a smart car owner myself. Best tank so far: 65.7 US MPG. Fucking love the little bugger.
I'll have to disagree here. If you were to hand a newbie a system that was configured exactly as they wanted it and no changes were needed, then yes.
However, if you just hand a newbie a fresh Linux installation and all of their gadgets... I think the user would have more luck with Windows. Even common gadgets.
I'm writing this while running Ubuntu. I've got a 5-button Logitech mouse with a tilt-wheel. The tilt-wheel doesn't work. The extra buttons do not work. I can get them to work by editing some files, and Ubuntu's online support community are fantastic when it comes to helping newbs find this info... but it's more work than the average newb would feel compelled to do when compared to the ease with which you could get it running in Windows.
Ubuntu has been *by far* the best works-out-of-the-box distro I've tried, but quite a bit I've found myself delving into the terminal to get certain tasks done and that's not something Joe User wants to have to do.
We use Symantec here and there are a lot of satellite sites that don't log into our domain (libraries, highways stations, etc.) and just use their existing connections to check e-mail and such.
For each new system we put in one of these external operations we have to run a registry patch to allow a regular user to run LiveUpdate. Otherwise, only administrators are able to keep the system up to date.
Although they haven't been tested in court (and to my knowledge, no Canadian publication has carried them), I would be willing to bet that some of them would be considered hate material - Mohammed with the bomb in his turban, for example, might be inciting hatred...
The Western Standard carried the cartoons a few months back. The Prime Minister defended their right to publish the cartoons but said that he regretted the decision to do so IIRC.
Sure, it's nice public relations and all that, but pissing off the money people is not exactly something you do.
I don't think Google really needs to give a rat's ass. The "money people" will be right back at Google's doorstep if/when Google's stock goes back on the rise. The "money people" will continue to follow the money.
I think they'd have very short and selective memories if a cozy relationship with Google a year or two from now would net them more money.
Reminds me of a song by Lazy Boy, Underwear Goes Inside the Pants:
We're in one of the richest countries in the world, but the minimum wage is lower than it was thirty five years ago.
There are homeless people everywhere.
This homeless guy asked me for money the other day. I was about to give it to him and then I thought he was going to use it on drugs or alcohol.
And then I thought, that's what I'm going to use it on. Why am I judging this poor bastard.
People love to judge homeless guys. Like if you give them money they're just going to waste it. Well, he lives in a box, what do you want him to do? Save it up and buy a wall unit? Take a little run to the store for a throw rug and a CD rack? He's homeless.
I walked behind this guy the other day. A homeless guy asked him for money. He looks right at the homeless guy and says why don't you go get a job you bum.
People always say that to homeless guys like it is so easy. This homeless guy was wearing his underwear outside his pants.
Outside his pants.
I'm guessing his resume isn't all up to date. I'm predicting some problems during the interview process. I'm pretty sure even McDonalds has a "underwear goes inside the pants" policy. Not that they enforce it really strictly, but technically I'm sure it is on the books.
After upgrading to 1.5, I too have been using Opera more and more as of late. I've had the keyboard nav periodically not work. Trouble getting certain plugins to work and a noticeable increase in memory usage.
I'm doing with Opera what I did with Firefox (then Phoenix just prior to the name change to Firebird) when IE was pissing me off.
I downloaded Phoenix and would use it when I thought of it or when IE did something specific to piss me off. As time went on Mozilla's browser became the default browser and that has remained for some time.
Now with these nagging problems in Firefox, Opera is seeing a lot more light of day with Firefox use decreasing. I suspect that Opera will end up being my default browser when all is said and done if the trend continues unless Mozilla pulls it together.
Clearly the Rublicans have no plans to address it... so you can choose the other option, the Democrats, and let them have a go at it. They can't do any worse than the current administration so you've got nothing to lose. And if they do, then we're all completely fucked.

When did this happen? I just recently finished off a month's subscription to eMusic and nothing I have is DRM'd.

Those two managers are supreme assholes if that's the sole basis for such a decision.
The babies who are being raped in Africa should be told this immediately.
There's a lot more to AIDS than promiscuous first-worlders.

Another bit of wisdom that I read in a co-worker's office:
When the last tree has fallen, when the last river has dried, and the last fish caught, then men will learn that they can't eat money.
Metallica encouraged fans to trade music when they were budding musicians trying to make a name for themselves.
Once they were millionaires, that whole attitude changed. Funny how the richer they got the shittier their music got.
