Indeed. If you look at the WA Tech support forums, there are hundreds of threads from around the time of the WA5 release demanding to know what happened to V4
This is inter-application communication. It's not going to "keep people trapped inside the windoze[sic] paradigm", as most applications won't even NEED this functionality.
Don't like it? Use another operating system, but don't become a mindless Microsoft-bashing moron.
I would guess gulibillity and sheer laziness/apathy are the worst factors. I know people who still think that those "You are visitor #1234212, you've WON!" ads are legit.
People are too lazy to remember different passwords for every site. I was apalled to learn my parents used simple passwords (until I forced them to change) for their online banking.
I think during the startup options, if you choose a custom game, you can make it have no Mindowrms.
The thing that always confused me is why the fungus & mindworms suddenly spread AFTER you communicated with the planet (the last two major wonders).
That game was awesome. I need to start playing it again.
I don't see why this is revolutionary technology. This could have been done for years, with basic motion-detector technology. I also don't see why this would make ads any more "localized" than any other print billboards. I don't see why people would mind a billboard talking to them either, it's not as if they haven't heard any other recorded voices being played back.
Anyways, this technology seems redundant and pointless. Researchers should spend their time working on something useful than coming up with a billboard that lights up when you pass.
You wanted to see him? I thought when I killed him I would be doing a service to humanity. Sorry about that. Won't happen again.
Depends. Was the laptop an Apple?
I still like the egg on the old Apple II (I forget which kind) that played back the devteam saying "Apple II".

Don't install all the eye-candy extras. *poof* Winamp 2.xx + bugfixes!

AMD will beat them to the punch when they release the first quantum chip.
I.) I for one welcome our Asian Debian-using overloads
I thought Slashdot already gave out cookies for free.
Slashdotters have girlfriends!?
Lindows, of course.
Hey! I find Windows ME to be a very secure, stable, and satisfying OS. My one gripe is that Microsoft Bob doesn't run perfectly.
The nice thing about owning the CD is it gives you proof of ownership (unless you physically stole it).

Of course, we won't be around to enjoy it. Somebody will complete the Towers of Hanoi and the world will end.
Why don't Slashdot editors do all their research before writing an article instead of posting a retraction the next day?

If you don't pay $30 after a month, it starts displaying ads as well as defamatory messages such as "My other computer runs Windows ME"
Of course, the insurance company will screw you and repaint your car with the same stuff.
Avon has decided to release a line of makeup for your car.

I'm going to patent Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Force Microsoft to use another keystroke.
I haven't noticed the word verification yet, but this could be helpful to curtail attempts with having programs trying to crack passwords.
