Motherboard manufacturers would sway this...

No EFI Support for Vista

If motherboard manufacturers suddenly moved away from the old BIOS to EFI, wouldn't this create problems for Vista which is meant to be a mostly re-coded OS which supports all kinds of new technology?!
Do mobo makers have leverage in this area?! Or is it likely to be the other way round, "This motherboard doesn't support Vista, I ain't buying it" kinda scenario.
I am guessing the latter, but if everyone was educated enough about PC's, coupled with knowledge of other OS's, it could be the other way around.
ah well:/ Kinda annoying, but I use OS X exclusively now anyway so no skin off of my nose:)
It looks a bit shit, judging by the frequency response (seems to be the same as the iPod), it will sound a bit shit, and all the speakers are forward facing... so its a big expensive ugly mono speaker?!
Unless they have done some crazy engineering to make it not sound so mono, would be interesting to hear it.
But why spend $350 or whatever the equivalent will be in GBP on an iPod Hi-Fi when a decent pair of reference powered monitors will cost you less...
The Mac Mini's are a bit expensive, Dual Core is nice, but I think I will wait till they have smaller MacBook Pro's or they replace the PowerMac's with the equivalent Intel model.
And £70 for a piece of Leather......
Thanks

To me, Evolution is a very open-minded way of thinking, and encourages people to think about how we evolved and can lead to more exploratory/scientific thinking which could benefit humanity as a whole.
Closing kids minds off with "You are all servants of God and he will plan your future" Creationism bollocks is pretty poor, and imho, holds back humanity from achieving great things and "improving" life in general.
For this reason, I think we should teach all popular theories, and let people make an educated decision.
I am also shocked by these statistics, but statistics is the key word. The BBC Article is sketchy on details of who was asked and such. As a UK citizen, I find it extremely hard to believe that half the population believes in Creationism, and if my friends and assosicates were asked the same questions, the stats would be vastly in favour of evolution. However, I have a good education (Half way through Comp. Sci. Degree) and therefore tend to associate with an educated bunch of people. (Or at least I like to think so)
I wouldn't take this as absolute truth until we see who was asked, and what exactly they were asked.
Thanks

They only seem to target people downloading the "Summer blockerbusters" or the films that Hollywood seem to think will do well with the retards of the world. No wonder he torrented them, I wouldn't pay to see them:P (Or download them for that matter:P)
A sign that audiences are getting smarter?! (I don't think so)
hhhmm... licensing software to other companies, particularly something as well known as Mac OS X with the Apple logo all over it is a bad idea in my opinion. For example, when something goes wrong on non-Apple hardware, the licensee should be expected to support it. However, Apple will prolly get a boat-load of complaints from people who don't know any better, about something that technically isn't their problem.
whoa dood calm down:) I doubt the transition will be as painful as you suspect. Apple's OS X/Unix technology has gotten better and faster. The FAT binaries I think will be very comparable to native binaries, and the real-time emulation should be usable, but time will tell with that.
I think its just the Carbon apps that might suffer performance degradation, Cocoa is a widget set, and should run comparably if not faster on x86 chips.
Of course, these fat binaries are only produced using the new Xcode 2.1, and only 2.1 can create Intel compatible binaries, so people creating binaries for Intel can just flick a switch and create FAT/Universal binaries, or PPC only binaries.
I don't think the transition will be that painful. However, I will be waiting till it all pans out before I fork out for a top of the range PowerMac. I run a Mac Mini at the moment, and I can only hope the next release of Mac OS X, Leopard I believe its called, is another speed increase and does not rely on a faster Mac:)
Ahead of the announcement tomorrow, I thought I would share my two cents.
I doubt Apple are going to port Mac OS X to x86 and then Apple to build x86 Mac's. I don't think Apple want their OS to be easily emulated on non-Mac systems. It is more likely that Intel will be producing PPC chips or even Cell chips to keep Mac OS X on a tight leash. According to some articles I have read, Apple now own a lot of the PPC IP, so this is my bet on the announcement tomorrow. (And I bet, everyone elses too)
I quite like the idea of having Intel chips in Apple laptops since I have been quite impressed with the Pentium M line of CPU's. Also, it will be interesting to see what they put in the top line PowerMac's. Rumours are that the Mac Mini (bastards!) will be the first to switch to Intel hardware, and then other products would be phased in. Maybe they will stick XScale CPU's into the iPod, that would be VERY interesting indeed:D
I don't think IBM will be too bothered by this either, surely they will be producing chips for both the XBox 360, and the PS3. That's no short change.
Enough speculation tho, the announcement is tomorrow:)
Simple solution: Just buy Valve/Steam games :D
Yeah, but they weren't listening through Monster Cable, you can't tell the difference between anything without Monster equipment...
Provided that the phone doesn't have a pin lock, the Find My iPhone feature can be disabled in the phones preferences, rendering it useless... :(

Isn't 'swine' both singular and plural, like 'deer'?
And horse...
I'm sure the slashdot editors are letting this trash through to provoke heated discussion of these "topics"...

Might as well do the same, I am posting this to pimp some of my music! Check the sig!
Now I can re-create scenes from Mortal Kombat as Jax...

How will they prove that the tabs/lyrics etc are from actual tab/lyric books?!
Surely someone could just post what they thought the lyric was, without even reading it, and just happen to be right?! Same for guitar tabs etc...
Maybe a wikipedia like solution is in order?! Would a wikipedia like lyric/tab site be at risk from these cowboys?!
Damn it, troll me if you want. I just thought the source code would be useful so the community could learn how it works, and maybe even optimize it.
... and the source code?! :)

whoa, I agree with the parent post. All I meant was I hope the CVS is actually useful to the KHTML guys.

I think we need to wait and see if this is anymore use the KHTML developers before we go proclaiming Apple as the good guys... :)
Personally I hope it is, as it is a good show of how two groups with different agenda's can benefit from Open Source.
