How about the metabolism? You need to fill up the stomach with a reasonable amount of food to compensate for the digestive acids.
If the metabolism is piss poor, you can only reduce the calorie intake so much before your stomach is complaining non-stop.
Yes, dieting + exercise would help a lot (it helped me) but just saying that's all there is to obesity is foolish.
What you say about controllig diet is true. But you also have to take the metabolism rate of the individual into consideration.
I have a friend who eats twice as much as me (he gets hungry every 4 hrs or so) but is shorter AND quite thinner than me.
I never used to care about my health and one time I hit 196 lbs/27% body fat for 5'8" and my doc said I'm getting into the obese category. That was the wake up call for me. I exercised a lot (5 days a week + 1 hr swimming on Sat) to bring it to 175 lbs/18% body fat. I then let go (no exercise) and I now hover around 175lbs to 180lbs for 25% bodyfat.
The reason I'm around 175-180lbs is because I control my diet very well. But there is no way I could go below 175 with just diet control (heck I couldn't go below that even with exercise). I definitely can't improve my diet further. I already eat only a 6" sub for lunch, cook at home for dinner and just have a slim fast optima for breakfast. And I'm vegetarian.
Long story short, for some people even just dieting won't cut it and adding exercise will just improve that a little bit. May be for some of the very obese people, their metabolism is very bad.
Not saying that's an execuse for all obese people. I have certainly seen many obese people stuffing themselves with shitty food. Just saying don't generalize it and say just exercise and dieting would be enough.
I have been on 2 cups of Starbucks coffee a day for months and then just quit cold turkey without any symptoms. Didn't drink coffee for a few weeks (moved offices and the coffee shop was too far to walk), then started drinking coffee from a different source.
I have fallen asleep while sitting in a boring class (a few years back) while drinking coffee with the coffee cup in hand.
These days I have my own coffee machine at work and have one or 2 cups a day. I have gone without any coffee recently too.
The only effect of coffee that I feel is a small boost in energy if I didn't sleep well the previous night. I never get the jittery or hyperactive feeling that people talk about.
Anyone else like me?
P.S: After I post, if I refresh the page, I don't see my post. What's up with that? Anyone see this post?

Stealing at the age of 21 can't be called youthful dumbness. He is a grown up ass at age 21.
May be stealing at age less than 15 to 17 could be called youthful dumbness.
If at age 21 he can't differentiate between right and wrong, he is not fit for office.
Can I get your girlfriend's number and your work schedule?
I plan to call and tell her how much you love her and I'm trying to see if I can rewrite your schedule to reduce your travelling time. (* Eyes darting *).
And I can bet your shitty management hired some cheap ass contractors and that's who you are talking about.
Not sure about Americans, but 90% of the Indians would jump at a full time employee position rather than a contract position (cultural reasons favoring stability). So all the good one are already full time employees and the contractors you get are the dumb asses who couldn't get a job but don't want to go back to India. So an entrepreneurial jackass Indian forms a namesake company and contracts out the dumbasses. They fake the resume of those contractors and attest for their fake experience. This is pretty much standard with all Indian contractors. So avoid them like the plague.
Long story short, you get what you pay for.
But in retrospect, I have seen enough American dumb asses too. Just that they ask for more $$ and aren't as driven (albeit for the wrong reasons) like the Indians. Hence the lower no. of dumb ass Americans I see at work.
You create a test with limited variable that affect the result and you control all the variables. If the result is still non-deterministic, then you have proved that the universe is non-deterministic.
What's done is that by limiting the amount of variables in the test you move from the domain of unpredictable to predictable.
Like any other theory you could have missed accounting for a variable and someone brighter than you will eventually find that mistake and redo the test and come up with what he/she thinks is the answer.
Rinse and repeat.
Unfortunately the -threads switch doesn't work for xvid in the stable mencoder release. At least that's the case with the latest mencoder that ships with Fedora 9.
The -thread works only in the development version in the svn.
Isn't xvid supposed to be better at encoding quality than ffmpeg?
That's pretty much the reason I'm not using ffmpeg.
The problem is with DRM, etc the industry colludes and makes sure there is no alternative to DRM (or other examples you mentioned). That's what most people hate and fight against. It's not as if the Music stores (Yahoo, Raphsody, etc) wanted to use DRM. The music industry forced them to use DRM. I guess that's where the difference comes in. People just say they hate DRM, because it's what affects them. What the actually mean is, give me an option to by non-DRM music.

I know you are joking here, but how about Y-Windows?
It hasn't been worked on for some time, but if the legacy code is the issue, Y-windows might be a good fresh start.

I guess the right thing to do here would be to save previous snapshots of the data. Even if the virus deletes all the files, if you have the ability to "show me the disk state 1 day ago", then the OS saved your data and is also not in your way while doing day to day stuff. Just a minor inconvenience to restore the data. I THINK MS and Linux support this, but as usual people cry foul stating privacy concerns.
Btw, I'm not a MS apologist. Just taking the middle ground.
The reason google has 100% google use is because they prohibit using the competition's product. So much for their don't be evil! Yahoo messenger is banned, only their half assed GTalk is allowed!

I think releasing a retail version of Vista that runs on a Mac gives the users a risk free opporrunity to try OS X. I don't think MS would like their end users giving OS X a try. THIS is the reason I wouldn't expect MS to actively help Vista run on Macs.
Don't they know that this will cause photon leak when the optical ICs finally come out! Then they are going to spend more $$$ all over again to figure out how to prevent the photon leak!:P
Well if you consider Outlook, which is the most commonly used calendar app in corps, it lets you set how many mins ahead of the appointment you want a reminder. THAT would help here. Just don't over think when there are much simpler solutions. All he asked for was a watch that would "beep" when ever his PC/PDA would have "beep"ed.
No! All you need is the interrupts used by debuggers (think it's int 3) and put that instruction in place of the GETCPUID instruction in the Skype program. Then in the ISR for int 3, Fill up the registers the way an Intel CPU would. Task done.
Yes you are "reverse engineering" the program, but the point is, it IS doable. Also this way you don't need an emulator which would be slow and beats the purpose of proving that Skype can run well on AMDs too.
