Right. So the solution is...Trump? Bannon? If you want to burn it all to the ground and start over I suppose that would be the way to go. We'd be better off with Biff Tannen and Archie Bunker.
Unlikely. If this election has proven anything, it's that ideology will always destroy facts. It's not even close. That's why we have significant portions of the population willing to believe just about any crazy conspiracy they come across.Short of a major social upheaval, they're going to remain naive and stupid.
Right. Because Obama was going to destroy the country, declare himself king, and enslave us all to his Kenyan Muslim rule.
Sorry. The shit that Fox News watchers believe is just a little less crazy and stupid than the alt right. Breitbart et al. just say out in the open what Fox News would only insinuate.
Trump will be our presodent. He has no political experience or record,
Why do people keep saying this? He is the founder and executive of many businesses, a global real estate empire, and now a successful campaign for the preidency. When Barack Obama was elected, the only experience he had was community organizing and a few years as a junior senator. Oh, and the campaign.
Of the two, even today, who has more years experience running an organization?
Running a business and running a government aren't even remotely related. He's already finding out pretty damn quick that they aren't hence the considerable amount of backtracking he's already had to do from his ludicrous campaign promises.
Agree, but, for example, methane (MOO!) is a more potent greenhouse gas and (another poster has partially said it) we're pumping all kinds of random shit into the air all the time.
So my feeling is that we need to 'clean up our act' very generally as a philosophy, rather than concentrate only on C02. And yes, cheap solar/wind is turning out to be very important. But we need car-free cities as well.
Methane isn't as much of a concern as it has a relatively short atmospheric lifetime. CO2, on the other hand, sticks around for centuries.
Nomani, a former Wall Street Journal reporter and co-founder of the Muslim Reform Movement, first made her self-described "confession" in a Washington Post column on Thursday. Since it published, she told Costello, she has received a torrent of abuse on social media. It's a symptom, Nomani insisted, of an increasingly hostile "liberal honor brigade."
And that is what the left doesn't understand... and it is one of the reasons Clinton lost...
Liberals, self-proclaimed "tolerant" people, attack anyone who doesn't hold their values.
Values like equal rights and innocent until proven guilty? You're right, they should just bend over and take it from the fascists.
If there was something malicious going on, do you think they would really be out advertising it? Idiot.
Let's think about that for a moment. We just elected an idiotic, loud-mouthed, bigoted, misogynistic, racist, bully who who repeatedly and brazenly demonstrated these traits across TV and social media. I think at this point we've demonstrated pretty clearly that "thinking" isn't really our strong suit over here. In fact, I'd bet dollars to donuts Russia could come right out and say "Yep, Trump is on our payroll" and Trump supporters would still say "Better than Hillary!".
Of course Russia is going to want to reach out to the likely president-elect of the United States of America in order to start a working relationship.
Of course. But the Russian mob and back channel banks aren't usually involved in such discussions.
Hey now, don't sell Hillary short! She also sold out to the Russians for $100 million, so she's already proven she's for sale to the Russians AND to Goldman Sachs!
Even after you're candidate wins you continue to spread bullshit? The uranium deal was approved by nine separate US agencies. The State Department was only one of them. So no, Clinton could NOT have made a deal here of any kind, unless you believe in a government wide conspiracy. And if you do believe that, then how did Clinton lose the election when clearly she is so powerful that she could force nine separate government agencies to push through a corrupt deal?
If you think Trump is only a single layer of shit, you really really need to do more research. Trump isn't a shit sandwich. He's a shit onion. Layers upon layers of shit. That's why Trump as a candidate (let alone president) was simply mind boggling. They made a huge deal out of "I smoked it but didn't inhale" for Bill Clinton. Trump was doing coke off hookers tits in the penthouses of his bankrupted casinos long before the White House was a glimmer in Slick Willie's eye.
This secession talk is a wee bit childish. Here's what Hillary Clinton had to say this morning about a Trump presidency:
"Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead."
I hope her supporters take a cue from her and start behaving with some class and dignity.
Class and dignity? Coming from a Trump supporter that's rich.
Trump deserves nothing but contempt. He ran a campaign on lies, ignorance, and hatred. He's a bigot, a misogynist, and a racist. Many of us know what kind of person Trump and his "friends" are, and they deserve neither trust nor respect.
This election was just like the Arab spring. Take the information monopoly out of the hands of the biased elites and use social media to reach everyone with the real message.
They did their best to sabotage him but Twitter and Facebook are the main reasons for the Trump victory.
Just what we need. Critical decisions about the future of the country made by the user base of fucking Twitter and Facebook. While we're at it, why don't we put our national monuments up for branding? I bet the Washington Monument would get renamed to Freedom Dildo, the Penatgon to Pain Sphincter, the White House to Trumpy McTrumpFace, and Air Force One to Mile High Pussy Wagon.
I knew it wouldn't be long before someone would Godwin this thread. The slight difference is that Trump doesn't want to exterminate the entire race of Hispanic people, and isn't intent on conquering some Lebensraum for his master race to spread out into Canada. Don't forget, we've had men of questionable morals in the White House before, and we certainly will again. Probably women too, in the future. Trump is an arrogant ass, but seriously comparing him to one of the most evil mass-murderers in modern history demonstrates a lack of perspective, or at least a severe lack of faith in the people of the US, to think anyone would go along with such schemes.
Trump is willing to use nuclear weapons as a means to an end. That, combined with his other rhetoric is reminiscent of Mussolini et al.
The lack of faith in the American people is entirely justified. Building walls and banning entire races have been part and parcel of his platform, the same one that people elected him on. All you need is fear, and Trump is master at providing it. History has shown that people will do amazingly horrible things in the name of fear. It's like gasoline: all you need is a match.
I'd hope that you can now understand the angst of conservative voters when President Obama won the last two elections.
Obama wasn't bat shit insane or an asshole demagogue. None of his policies threatened world stability, and none of them were aimed at deliberately wrecking the country.
Or perhaps I can at least empathize with you a bit because of that, if you're not feeling very empathetic yourself yet. Many conservatives predicted the end of America as we know it, and they were just as wrong. I believe America is still a strong country, generally made up of good people who just want to get along with their neighbors and live their lives in peace. Maybe you think that's naive or optimistic, but so be it.
If nothing else, just keep reminding yourself that you'll have another chance to vote him out in four years.
You're confusing hyperbole with reality. Every president has had America's best interest at heart, even if they had misguided ideas. Trump doesn't give a shit about America. He doesn't give a shit about the world. He only cares about one thing and that is Trump. His global and domestic policies are unmitigated disasters, and he'll have essentially a blank check. Worse, with political redistricting, supreme court vacancies, and his corrupt cronies abusing power in the executive the only elections we'll be having are the ones he wants.
We've had foreign interference. We've had FBI interference. We have a president elect who has openly encouraged the incarceration of political opponents. That's full on banana republic shit right there. If you think some moldy old piece of paper is going to stop someone like Trump, then you need to go take a good look at history.
Elizabeth Warren decided not to run against Hillary. Joe Biden stepped aside for Hillary.
Biden vs Trump, what an election that would be. Maybe that could still be 2020. Tim Kaine isn't looking too bad, though I don't think he's president-material, not yet.
Oooo how cute! You think there's going to be an election in 2020!
My wife is a liberal non-white female who voted for Hillary, hoping to see a female President.
Voting for someone on the basis of their sex is just as stupid as voting for someone on the basis of their race/skin-colour. You should be voting on the basis of their policies — far more complex than some genetic attribute.
I think this election has demonstrated that policies are irrelevant.
With all sincerity, next time, yes, vote your conscious. I, a white male small-el libertarian, voted for Jill Stein, and will get shit for it. Already have gotten shit for it. My wife is a liberal non-white female who voted for Hillary, hoping to see a female President. She's disappointed, I'm glad Hillary didn't win, but we both know we voted for us, for our own reasons. Voting against your conscious isn't worth the mental issues later.
In fact, the next election, when someone tells you to vote to disrupt "the other guys", smack them as hard as you can.:^)
Next election? Do you think a moldy old piece of paper is going to stop Trump? For fuck's sake, this is straight out of Mussolini's Italy. The republicans have total control. Political redistricting happens in 2018. It's likely multiple supreme court vacancies will be filled. And with Giuliani as attorney general and Comey or someone worse as head of FBI, the only elections we'll be having is a choice between Dear Leader Trump and Great Leader Trump.
We always think "It can't happen here". It can, and it has. We've elected Biff Tannen as president, a despotic demagogue who has made it abundantly clear what he intends to do with those that oppose and/or insult him. We've elected the living embodiment of every negative stereotype the world has of Americans. All that's needed now is a Reichstag moment and our democratic failure will be complete.
No it's not. What the hell are you talking about? I scan multi-gigabyte logs in a few minutes. A simple grep would cut that 650,000 down significantly simply by removing any email that wasn't to/from Clinton. After that, it's simple scan/compare with what they already have on file and removing the duplicates. At that point you've already significantly cut down the number of emails. Apply some keyword/context filters and you've significantly reduced the number of emails you really need to look at. Assuming they already have a data workflow in place the initial filtering and categorization would have happened in less than a day. The rest of the time would have been spent going through the remaining emails and double checking.
This isn't rocket science. You could set up something like this using some python scripts and Lucene in an afternoon.
"By hacking and dumping emails, Russia is trying 'to denigrate the American electoral system, to make it look chaotic, make it look manipulable, make it look subject to intrusion, cheating and vulnerable so you can't trust it...to make us look no better than the Russian electoral system,'" said one senior White House official.
"Hacking and dumping" emails is not the same as changing vote counts or forcing people to vote a certain way. The exposure of the content of emails was likely embarrassing to the Democratic Party and HRC, but it isn't election tampering.
You're right. Foreign powers hacking a political party with the express purpose of helping and supporting another party who has favorable policies could not possibly be election tampering.
The Newsweek article on the extensive and well organized Russian propaganda/misinformation network was quite eye opening. Seems our allies have been a bit more diligent on the whole Trump/Russia thing than we have. The Trump campaign has essentially been compromised. Trump himself just appears to be more of a "useful idiot", though Russia considered dropping support entirely over the summer because he appeared to be to "unhinged" (fighting with a gold star family is just plain stupid).
We didn't need another leak to let us know how corrupt the Clintons are.
O RLY?
Where's the conviction? Where's the list of fines and jail time? Hmm?
Oh right right. We're talking about conspiracies which have nothing to do with facts. The whole system is rigged because...well the orange Biff Tannen impersonator says so. Meanwhile, the transgressions made by Trump are well documented by the numerous court cases that have been and continue to be brought against him, including discrimination, bankruptcies, sexual assaults, child rape (from his time being pedo pals with Epstein), and of course the lovely SCAM U...err...I Mean Trump U fraud case scheduled for later this month.
Did you happen to read what his lawyers are asking for in the fraud case?
Wikileaks is just a political tool for Russia now. Otherwise there'd be a veritable cornucopia of the shit pouring forth about Trump, more than all the shit that's already out there. At the very least, we'd be seeing his tax returns. But Putin "likes" Trump, since it has been buying off/sneaking in there operatives into his camp since the beginning.
Oh, but we'll have to wait until AFTER the election for that story to break since the FBI wouldn't want to taint the election. It's a good cover story...except for the most recent bullshit.
But two can play at your conspiracy game. You see, Trump was never going to president. Ever. He's a figure head; a demagogue to appeal to the frothing masses. He was a tool to win the presidency, but that's all he is.
The real scoop is the republicans already have enough evidence squirreled away to impeach, convict, and imprison Trump many times over. That tape? A plant by republicans. Just enough to build up some plausible back story. Those sexual assault allegations? Again, republicans just setting the stage. They're banking on making the democrats seem so corrupt (through their collusion with the Russians/Wikileans/FBI) and the population so full of populist rage that crazy orange man Trump would still get elected even if he shot a baby seal in the face and kicked puppies off the stage.
Then after the win, they'd drop the proverbial 50 ton anvil on Trump's bad comb-over. Suddenly, a huge trove of new evidence would be released to the public detailing all the crimes, tax evasions, assaults, etc. he's committed (probably through wikileaks so they can regain some shred of their "unbiased" rep). The Trump U fraud will seem like a mere parking ticket. He'd get locked up so fast he'd never have a chance to leave a small orange hand print on the bible come January. Why? Because the republicans really want Pence in office. Why do you think they conspired so fast to cut Christie out of the picture? "Uh we're having...erm...engine problems Mr. Trump. You're going to have stay the night here and uh...oh look, here's Mike Pence!"
But you say, "Why would the Russians want Pence if Trump was supposed to be their puppet?". Well, you're right. Putin would bend Trump over like a prison bitch and make him squeal like a pig. But Trump has alienated too many people. He appealed on the stage of TV, but now someone needs to be able to appeal to the halls of Congress. Trump can't do that, but Pence can.
"But Pence wouldn't kowtow to Putin!" He's not supposed to, and Putin doesn't want that anyway. What he does want is a little quid pro quo. A new cold war that will spur Russia economy and make Putin and pals stupidly rich. A new cold war to increase defense spending here and make Pence and friends rich. An under-the-table agreement to go on stage and act the parts while secretly milking the new "fear" for every penny it's worth. ISIS? Old news. Already losing it's punch, and people are becoming numb to it. But make Russia the big bad bear again? That's serious '80's level apple pie money right there.
"It's all bullshit!" Really? Then what is the real reason the FBI stalled the Russian connection investigation? CONSPIRACY!!!!!
It really is silly season. The bottom line is that Trump is the "fuck you, oligarchy" candidate. We know he's the last chance for a long, long time, if ever, to fuck with the oligarchs
So...you argument for picking an openly idiotic, racist, lecherous, bigoted, misogynist is to say "fuck you" to the oligarchy? And what the hell makes you think he isn't part of the oligarchy? He has a history of treating anyone who isn't rich and white like shit, treating women even worse, and basically is a walking embodiment of everything America should have left behind at least 50 years ago. It's like watching Archie Bunker run for president, only with less class.
That is why he is being supported.
He's being supported because the so-called "neo-con" republicans thought it was a brilliant idea to go out and court the crazies into the party by fomenting rage, propagating conspiracies and other BS, and basically turning the whole party into a conglomeration of obstructionist idiots, ideological zealots, and sideshow freaks. Trump is the end result of that strategy, one which what few real republicans left had warned about for quite some time. The republicans of my day would have NEVER tolerated anyone like Trump being a candidate. Can you imagine what would have happened if someone like Reagan or Bush senior said and/or did half the shit Trump has done? They would have been burned at the stake!
You NEVER court crazy, even if that crazy seems to be helping you. You can NOT control crazy, and once it gets in, once you give it a voice, it is damn near impossible to get it out. That's what the old republican guard found out the hard way. They thought they were saving the party, when in fact they systematically destroyed it.
And now, we have Trump. It is absolutely repulsive that he is considered a republican. If you're a conservative/real republican, people automatically assume your associated with Train Wreck Trump and the Neo-Crazies. It's a stink that doesn't wash off and doesn't go away. Just about anyone would have been a better choice.
I may not agree with real republicans, but I respected them. I have no respect for these new age crazies that call themselves republicans and support despots like Trump.
Hillary is the tool of the oligarchy.
Just because you say so?
Russia is no threat because they aren't suicidal, and do you really think Trump is in their pocket? Get real.
The smartest adversary appears as your greatest friend, not your greatest enemy. Direct confrontation is the most idiotic way to defeat or influence an enemy. The smart enemy applies pressure, seeks out weaknesses, and exploits them. They get inside and maneuver. If they play their cards right, you'll be smiling and shaking their hand thanking them for the privilege of being bent over.
Trump has made it clear where he stands in relation to Russia. Right in front, with his hands on his ankles. His views on Russia, NATO and the rest are pretty much talking points out of the Russian Agenda.
Putin is a good contrast to the feckless current occupant of the White House. That's why he keeps coming up. More a testament to how shitty a leader Obama is than any positive qualities of Putin. Putin has gotten the better of him in every exchange during the last 8 years.
That sound you here is Zombie Reagan starving because apparently you have no brains left to eat.
I can't believe this is what republicans have become. When did it become American, let alone Republican, to praise a despotic foreign leader who has dissenters imprisoned and assassinated and have those be considered strong qualities for AMERICAN LEADERSHIP?
My god, people like you aren't republican. In no election I've been alive for have i ever heard such garbage, from democrat or republican.
And if it's Trump, we'll have the Russian hackers protecting our cyber-borders! Wouldn't want to jeopardize their new puppet^H^H^H^H^H friend in the Oval Office, would they?
Huh? Comey - a Republican - is being criticized for Democrats for organizing an 11-days-before-the-election hit-and-run against her, and your argument is that he's biased toward her? And that's why he did this 11 days before the election, I take it?
I don't think 99.9% of Trump supporters have a problem with a female president. They have a problem with THIS female as president...
Of course they have a problem with Hillary as president. She isn't attractive enough for pussy grabbing. Maybe a slap on the ass or something. She still ranks high on the all important "Bring me a beer and a sammich, bitch!" scale, but that will only carry a female candidate so far.
This election is a primary example of why democracies fail. Eventually you get to the point where people vote for leaders they want, not the leaders they need. Apathy and ignorance become major players. Emotion and ideology override simple logic and common sense.
Democracies depend on a well-informed, well-educated populace. The only reason we have people like Trump and Hillary as candidates is because WE put them there. So are we, as a country well-educated and well-informed? What does that say about us as a country when we have the equivalent of a pussy-grabbing Archie Bunker and the White Witch of Narnia as our so-called "best-and-brightest"?
Right. So the solution is...Trump? Bannon? If you want to burn it all to the ground and start over I suppose that would be the way to go. We'd be better off with Biff Tannen and Archie Bunker.
Unlikely. If this election has proven anything, it's that ideology will always destroy facts. It's not even close. ...Ingenuity will see that we make those 1000 years.
Stupidity will see we won't make the next 100. Or have you not been paying attention?

Interesting times.
No...no we can't. Trump makes Bush Jr. look like a paragon of eloquence, intelligent policy, and leadership.

#TrumpLogic
*shakes head*
