Not the core issue causing all the fuss. Core issue is that he is being locked up for what he allegedly "said" in a facebook post. Second issue is the ongoing mistreatment of civilians by douhebag cops who think they are above the law. People are sick of it.
Besides, there are homeless people all over the city who are just as delusional as this guy. Are you going to force medication on them "just in case" they actually do something illegal?
Until someone actually breaks the law, or is endangering themselves or someone else, threatening to do so should not get you locked up. Hitler took that approach.
If Pandora is really that big (I don't use it) why don't they just give the Recording industry the finger and be an outlet for Indies or Albums not under contract with the RIAA. They wouldn't have to pay the RIAA protection racket and probably work out a really reasonable revenue model for Indies and their groupies. I think I've heard enough Metallica and Nickelback to last me for a lifetime anyway. If I never hear their stuff again I won't miss it. Lots of Indie stuff is just as good if not better. Actually, some is way better.
You say that like you'll be forced to change your religion or political party.
He's choosing to invest in the competition. If AMD goes tits-up, you will be paying whatever Intel wants because you will have no alternative. Imagine having only a single mobile service provider. You would not be getting the same plan you have now.
Good point, but all joking aside, this security flaw points out one of the huge problem with "little black boxes". Developers can do stupid stuff like this and nobody but the attacker, and the company, will ever know. It also makes for easy disregard of full disclosure thereby protecting your brand's image, even though you're making garbage software like this.
So, for every 100 people who play the game, only 7 of them actually purchase it? There's no friggin way. How the hell do 93 people use the same 7 activation keys? ESPECIALLY when you need to be connected to the ubisoft mothership to actually play. He must be using the same Abacus as the MPAA/RIAA uses.
I switched to Ubuntu a number of years ago and could never forgive them for trying to hide all the startup info from the console. It's become even more egregious with grub2 parameters/configuration, kernel video modes, even the old faithful boot command "linux single" no longer works to get to a console screen to fix something.
I don't know how many other distros have adopted this "windows mania" to run everything from gui but for the love of god, leave the console alone. It's the only thing that works anymore when nothing else (emergency sync, boot, etc).
This is essentially what Amazon (and Google mail/docs for that matter) is doing - Aiming to become your company's new IT department. No CEO in their right mind is going to pay multiple salaries/benefits for a staffed IT department when they can get it from Google and Amazon way cheaper. Even if they pay $10k/month, that's cheaper than paying to staff a 4 person IT departement.
And before you start in about how this helps small startups who can't afford and IT staff, well think again. They can't afford the cloud services either or they wouldn't have the development team running the website/DNS/etc.
Can't say this is any better than what we had though. The tech industry needs room to innovate and foster small ideas so they can turn into The Next Big Thing. This is what drives the economy, the job market, and industry growty. You can't have that when someone is always out-gunning you with litigation or strongarm industry tactics. All you get that way is a stagnation and monoculture.
I suspect its a huge smoke screen for some other operation
It's probably not that interesting. The DEA is most likely the same as every other large user-base of users. Storing their cases in word docs, spreadsheets and Jet databases and saving them to the root of the C:, the Desktop, network drives, laptops, etc. Have countless directories named "New Folder" and "DEA stuff" in all levels of the filesystem along with sharing access to "My Documents"
Sure there's 14TB of data, but I'll bet nobody knows quite where the hell it's all at and not all that willing to dig through it all to find it.
where it doesn't take 20 years just to get approval to move forward.
Annnnd where's there's very little regulation governing how you dispose of your environmental waste, or hazmat containment/exposure. Yep, he's a genius.
How is that different fromany other magical item previously sold on ebay?â
I see what you're trying to do there but holy water isn't "Magic" and I don't recall ever hearing anyone say it is. It's symbolic. A "Magic" potion, curse or hex being sold under the premise it will perform something "magical" is going to be subject to intense scrutiny when it just doesn't do what it said it was supposed to do. When Ebay has to reimburse the people when the "magic" doesn't work costs them, apparently, quite a bit of cash. Otherwise they wouldn't be turning down the business.
I'm hardly surprised. Since the benefit to student is actually in doing the work instead of official credits
Actually, what the student values is that piece of paper showing they completed the class. Nary a single fck is given these days to actually soaking up any of the material. That said, I think the way we teach, and the way we assess, needs to be addressed first rather than how we police the cheating.
I've never seen a company "give up" like this. I would have thought Adobe would have a vested interest in making their software work on a platform everyone is clamoring to dominate. It's like they just said "meh,.. F- it". They also discontinued Flash on Linux (not sure about mac).
I believe Romney has that process patented already.
He's very sick and needs help.

it's just interesting how broken the current system is for women.

I'm totally upgrading to Metro now!
Why spend the money/time printing one? Some people just make them for $7 out tubing.

Nearly every kind of childhood snack (soda, corn chips, candy) contains corn syrup in one form or another. I'd suspect that long before anti-biotics.

Users never seem to be able to see past their noses when wanting to use personal gadgetry for work.
but I wouldn't trust one to keep state secrets...The man is just being sensible.
Obviously in the minority, in the US anyway.
