  2. cynical about corporate donations? on Gates: Not Much To Show For $5B Spent On Education · · Score: 1

Two big problems with Deep Pocket donations:

            1) No audit trail for where/how the donation was spent
            2) No evidence the donation was ever *actually* made

I apologize if this sounds cynical, but I have very, very little faith in any corporation/monopoly in the US right now. It's far too easy for companies to game tax breaks with large wads of cash. Sure, maybe you donated 5 billion to a school, but in return did you get a 8 billion tax credit from taxpayers?

if you have an application named "System Settings" in both gnome and kde, you are going to have conflicts when both window managers are installed on the system. I'm not exactly certain how, but processes may confuse one for the other; it's just really bad practice to have two applications named the same anyhow. even if they *are* seperate distros.

  17. One solution on UK Developers Quit US App Store Over Patent Fears · · Score: 1

Stop buying from the monopolies. Week after bloody week I see articles here protesting that the monopolies are treating them badly. STOP FUNDING THE BLOODY MONOPOLIES. As long as you are giving them money, they are going to continue to suck up patents, litigate the #*(@ out of the competition, and run roughshod over everyone. Yes you may have to do without the latest gadgetry/software for a while but in the long run things will improve. Besides, if you put your money somewhere else for a little while that will eventually increase the number of alternatives available to everyone.
