You write a simple bot that sends out gmail invites to a mail server it has access to (the only thing this email server is used for is to collect invites). It keeps track how many invites it has to give out and dispenses invites to itself sets up the email accounts for users then harvests all invites in that account. For every user you set up you get 50 more invites. If invites expire you factor that into the bots behavior.
PS: Dear Google staff I would never consider doing this please don't lock down my gmail account. I do love it so.
Let's be realistic without financial support firefox would not have the marketshare it has today and some of the added functionality they are mentioning might be fun/useful and worth a few bucks to have. The one that item they mention that was interesting was SwitchProxy but I wonder how long before there are government suits looking into this.
I once called a creditor of mine and was obviously routed to an overseas call center. The gentleman on the other end of the phone after asking me my issue asked me my social security number. I was hesitant to give it away to a guy in india making $.50 an hour but figured I was being paranoid.
I gave him the number and he said please hold. The next thing I knew he put me on hold and I was transferred to another service representative (in the us) who also asked for my social security number. Well needless to say I let them have it basically "Why would they ask me for my social security number to transfer me?"
I started checking my credit report and stopped doing business with the bank. Nothing came of it and I was being paranoid but the reality is this sort of thing can happen anywhere. At a restaurant you give the server your card. Most servers make low wages and they take your card off to the back room usually.
I am the party that plans to buy the little guy. I am going to open a site similar to Save Toby. This will work far better than my 419 efforts and if all else fails I will find out finally if liver really goes well with "fava beans and a nice chianti".
This html is full of artifacts. I would be surprised if they actually hired a web developer and didn't just screw up and use some free script they didn't fully understand.
Is it me or does anyone else have issues with this being called a glitch? Seems like either sloppy work or deliberate. Either way the page that spat out emails and addresses worked as expected it was simply not locked down.
Take it as a learning opportunity. Learn how to work with this tool and while you learn look for a new job. It is a much better bargaining position to have a job than to be unemployed when looking for a new job.
Reading this article made my eyes bleed, the pompus tone, the over articulated point of view...ack! I would not be surprised if he wrote about blogs to get some attention to for himself and his group. I would also be surprised if he ever really read a blog.
I work at a college and the librarians are an odd bunch but thank god none of them talk like this.
Getting all up in arms about these sites and talking black lists and such is going to do a bunch of nothing. I hit these site on occasion and they are annoying but beyond that they are what they are (not the devil); a valid business. People pay for their traffic, for all the good it that untargeted traffic brings. I suspect they make money not when someone clicks but from ad impressions.
What I find funny is that they more often than not ask you if you would like them to be your start page! Really as if this sad little link farm is a service to anyone but the owner of the domain.
I liked Star Trek TNG, Voyager and loved Deep Space 9 but I really think they need to let it rest for a while. I could not get into enterprise it always felt like they were nudging me in the side saying "See we are in the past we can only go to warp level 5! See?!?"
As much as I would like to see what JMS could come up with (big fan of Babylon) I am just as happy watching reruns of old Treks.
I hear a bunch of people saying cell phones do almost everything their pda could do. To a certain degree I agree but for the most part I think cell phones fall far short and are not going to kill the pda.
What I would really like ot see happen is build a simple phone and pda functionality into an Ipod or similar device.
I don't like carrying a bunch of things and the interface on phones is cumbersome. The things I need/want are:
- very large portable hard drive
- cell phone w/ wireless headphones
- pda
- music player
- email(maybe?)
Put something like this out and even if it is a little bigger than an Ipod I would buy it.

I would get an iCopulate but can't stand the idea of my iPod getting more action than me.
literally
Um could you optimize the idle loop? Yeah... that would be great.
This is god awful. Make it stop.
April fools was better last year!
Yeah where did you get the idea for this? Uranus?
You guys could at least put a little effort into this!
Check it out before it shuts down. " "

The real question is do they feel guilty charging for junk data?

Either there is some poor joe still downloading this foolish thing or we are the first people to see it.

No good deed goes unpunished.
Hahaha...Doh!...Fell off my chair.
This is a better story than the guy finding the nail in his head.
Gkack! ... uh sorry just a hairball.
If you insist on the Star Treck management analogies don't go borg or klingon.
Try a more Jordie or even Riker.
Although a Klingon Office would be cool! "Bring my TPS report you filthy pahtk!"
