  1. How about the numbers for all gecko browsers? on Firefox Gains on IE Again in June · · Score: 2, Insightful

In addition to ff, the moz suite, epiphany, galeon, kmelon. Probably wouldn't add that much to the total as a couple of those are X only but still, would be interesting.

And I think that's the point of what firefox brings to the table. Some people like to say IE sucks FF rulez!!!

But the great thing about ff is that as it gains marketshare, since it adheres to standards, in the end it won't matter what browser you use as long as it conforms to the standard.

So in the end it won't matter if you use, konqueror, safari, opera, ff, etc. You know, kind of how it was meant to be.

I was a little older so didn't cry during optimus's death as I've read so many younger fans have. And I have watched some of G1 and it doesn't really stand the test of time. BUT, the movie on the otherhand is still great to me. I have throughly enjoyed it a few times over the years. I'd rather not of had rodimus(hot rod), but it's still great. Even losing megatron (well, becoming galvatron) was acceptable because galvatron was such a worthy successor. Leonord Nemoy voiced him with a stern voice where it didn't even sound like spock. And of course, Orsen Wells, as unicron was amazing (which was the last thing he did).

Yes, I hope IE7 doesn't take back this market share, but really I don't know wtf microsoft was doing all this time. They could have easily released a version of IE with a hacked in tabbed browser and stop js popups by default. Even with the current security issues a lot would have probably stayed.

It's not like your going to get them to switch with 'Look! It's open source and standards compliant!'

You add sources from within synaptic itself.

Settings --> repositories then add --> custom.

I still prefer to add them manually though as I like to comment why I put the sources there.

I personally cut out all pop, coffee etc and just drink water and plenty of it. I probably drink about 3 to 4 liters throughout the entire day definately not in a 3-6 hour period.

So from what I've read about a gallon a day is plenty and healthy. The majority of you are probably not even drinking near enough water.

  14. Hmm, what about doom3 on the xbox? on Next-Gen Console CPUs Not Up to Hype · · Score: 5, Interesting

This article really seems to take the wind out of their sails regarding what's being boasted 'under the hood' and what it's actually capable of doing.

But I look at a game like doom3 running on a xbox. Yes it's low res and yes I read their changed some of the levels so there isn't as much draw distance (like removing a window from a corridor etc).

But still, it's doom3 running on what is a 733 mhz cpu with ONLY 64 megs of ram and doing a pretty good job of it.

Whereas my p4 1.6 with only 128 megs of ram (really need to upgrade) and a gf4ti4200 runs doom3 like shit. Downright unplayable. Heck I wish I could have the xbox version of doom3 to run on my pos system.

My point? Well, history has shown that the developers will eventually make these systems do tricks that no one initially thought the systems were capable of. But the pc is such a moving target with so many configurations that we don't see near as much optimizations.

But I'm a pc gamer for life and mainly cause I hate exclusive agreements and would love to see these systems be a disappointment. :)

I miss the days (snes/genesis) where only 1st party titles were exclusive (mario vs sonic) and with pretty much all other titles it was may the best console win.

How much do they offer these developers to only play on one side of the fence? I think one of the biggest first exclusive agreements was tombraider on the ps1. But what I always liked was the pc was ignored in these agreements. Doesn't seem to be the case these days. Cough, halo, cough. And I'll never forgive the developers dropping the pc with the oddworld series. Ok way OT now I'll stop rambling.

Yes we definately need something to replace avi. The two glaring things off the top of my head is that vbr mp3 is a hack in avi and it can't stream.

I remember reading about matroska ages ago but it seems nothing has caught on yet. We really need a standard hammered out for containing mpeg4 content (or other video content as well) that allows for the above, and has a specification for menu's, slideshows with audio, dealing with non 4:3 aspect ratios, anamorphic etc, and I don't really like the idea of divx leading the way.

Haven't read the article yet so maybe 6.0 is bringing something big to the table (besides menu's obviously), but I can't see me leaving xvid anytime soon.

  19. You want to get rid of wrist pain? on Advocating Dvorak · · Score: 1

Work out, specifically with weights, as jogging is not going to work your wrists ;) Ya I know we all have our favourite wrist exercise but it's not enough. :)

I've been typing since I was using my c64 as a kid. I can type about 60 wpm. I always exercised in my youth but then stopped for a while in my twenties. A year or two in, my wrists started killing me. I'd take breaks and stretch my wrists but it would just limit the pain. I started using weights again and I haven't felt pain in years. I can pretty much type as long as I want without any strain or even the slightest feeling of pain/discomfort.

Besides people who are into playing sports, most people's physical activity stops after the mandatory grade 9 gym. This goes double for us geeks. So hit the weights and your wrists will thank you, not to mention all the other benefits.

On a side note, Some of my friends never used a computer before the late 90's never mind actually typing. That was in 98 and still none of them can type.

Is typing something similar to learning a new language, or learning guitar or piano as far as the brain is concerned. As adults, we can still learn new complex things, but can we still 'memory map' like the youngins do? Maybe it's incorrect to lump typing in the same category as playing the piano, but I believe it's a matter of 'hard wiring' this information. I wonder how quick I could actually adapt dvorak at my age in my 30's vs someone say in their teens. Would it screw up my traditional typing?

I'd personally love this to happen. Imagine if OO/abiword could claim 100 % (or say 99%) compatibility with word 97. A lot of offices would be much more tempted to switch if they feel assured the transistion would be smooth. Cause it's not some killer feature in microsofts office suite, it's people tied to their existing documents that makes people hesitant from switching.

Basically I think the courts made mention of encryption because in todays society it is something of note. I'm saying imagine everyone and I mean everyone used encryption. Then it would be like pointing out he has a telephone because it could be used to contact other pedophilers.

Do you see what I'm getting at now? I wouldn't think it would hold as much weight (or be something of note) if every person had encrypted file on every electronic device they had.

Totally agree. The darth maul fight is one of the best fights I've ever seen in any film. Then in ep II the fights seem to slow down again, I attributed this to using christopher lee and you could tell his face was plastered on someone for some of the fights. I couldn't tell that this time around but as others have pointed out, the cg transistions were bad like with dooku and the fights were just fast and spazzy for lack of a better word.

I am a huge fan as many of you here. Grew up on star wars, saw the first 10 times when I was 7, saw empire 34 times in it's first run, I was obsessed with empire and it is my best movie experience ever. Then I saw Return only once. A part of my childhood died that day. So many things wrong with return, but this is more on the new movie. Well, it's been all downhill ever since.

The only thing that takes me there is during the star wars logo at the beginning and the opening crawl. And I really wanted to believe george got it right this time, but it just ain't so.

Besides the bad dialog, bad acting, and lack luster light saber fights, there is even a problem with the space battles. Just because you can put a million things on screen at once, doesn't mean you should. There are so many things wizzing around, which are way too colourful, and panning and 3d circle arounds etc. You need the grittiness, of the ships just looking grey. You need to subtract about 1000 ships. You need to lock the camera way more.

It reminds of Jaws, Speilburg wanted to use the shark way more but due to technical problems, they had to rely on 'building up' the fear of the shark. Needless to say it was prefect. This is probably the best example of less is more.

Someone needed to beat that lesson, and many other lessons, over george's head. But it's too late now, George shit the bed.
