I'm glad there is an extension for this, but this should really be by default though. Galeon, or epiphany do not exhibit this.
Is there a bug filed for this? Or will it always be dealt with via an extension? Because sometimes I hate dealing with extensions globally in linux, as I want this for all users and not just mine.
Yes, I know what RT is, and I was pointing out how a whole wack of critics can bash what I thought, and so did a lot of other people, to be a good film.
So, since that movie, I don't bother with RT anymore.
I read for this that writing comes really hard to him. He had to force himself to sit at his desk all day and he could barely write a couple of pages. He said otherwise he'd barely get one a day done.
George! back away from the desk and put the pen down!
Can't trust rotten tomatoes since they bashed the butterfly effect. I'd don't care what people say I loved the film. Most people I know loved it as well. Something I trust more is imdb for user votes and they gave butterfly effect 7.6/10 out of 23000 votes.
Oh and looking at the above they rate return of the jedi over the last two. Will people please stop doing that! I'm an old fart and saw the orig. trilogy in the theatre. I saw star wars 10 times, empire 34 times (yes this was the first movie I was obsessed with when I was a kid) and return once. A part of my childhood died that day. Return was that bad to me.
Look what we got: stupid ewoks, stupid ewoks making storm tropppers look dumber than ever, huge jim hensen influence, boba fett dying a stupid slapstick death with han who can't see (something out of laurel and hardy) with that gay wilhem scream (yes this scream is in all of em, but usually off to the side), seeing vader's face was just wrong. I could go on and on. EP1 and ep2 are head and shoulders above return, even though they are mediocre.
Anyway, I'm just surprised when people praise the orig trilogy as if return was as good as the other two. I think we got 2 great movies so far, 2 medicore, and one that is so kiddy that it's just painful to watch.
Hey I love tabbed browsing, just discussing with alt-tab ctrl-tab thing, so it's not besides the point of this particular thread. So thanks for letting me know there's an extension which i'll hunt down now, but ease up on the tone of your last line, ok?
With alt tab, as we all know, you can press it, and then release and press it again to go back to the last app, hence the quick cycle feature. If you hold it down you can go through all your apps.
But with ctrl-tab to get the same functionality, you have to press ctrl-shit-tab to go back.
I'd rather it behave just like alt tab. Can't think of a reason off hand why it shouldn't
I personally think voip is overpriced when compared to pots IF you do not make a lot of long distance calls. Most of my calls are in my area code. I looked over voip and it costs about the same as pots in this regard (maybe a saving of 5 - 10 bucks tops).
I was surprised when voip first came out and you see prices like 29.99 - 34.99 etc. I thought wtf, these companies are in a sense piggy backing on other companies providing high speed to you.
Vonage and them are just providing a termination service. So could say bell or rogers sell dsl + voip for say 10 bucks more. And not at a loss but actually make a profit from it? Well, bell might not want to but I could see rogers being interested. I read some US cable isps are intergrating voip connectivity in their cable modems.
Also, what we are really paying for is the relay from ip to pots. Where is the money for companies like vonage once everyone is on voip?
Well, not only am I a bonafided real gamer, I'm also an older fart now, which is why I'm also into retro gaming via emulation. When you change resolutions you don't notice as much with hi res games, but with retro games, when their res is off, it really looks odd.
Being a gamer, I haven't made the jump to lcd. I want different resolutions and the resizing to lcd's one res is an eyesore to me. Not to mention lcd's other limitations like ghosting of fast moving images.
Since going to Gnome, I've ended up using galeon. It has proper session support, it has proper theme support, and it solved my flash slowdown issues with certain sites that I've always had in FF. I initially read that that was a gtk2 bug, but later read it was due to an XUL overhead issue.
The other gnome browser, epiphany, is also an option and the default gnome, I just found galeon more feature complete instead of the minimalist approach of epiphany.
Anyway, it's all gecko with just different packaging. And there's also that Kmelon one on the windows side. So I wonder what that would bring the downloads with considering all gecko browsers. Obviously pretty hard to keep track of in linux when one rarely downloads from the actual site.
I don't know how old some of you are but here is my view of Star Wars way back when.
I saw a New Hope when I was 7 in 1977. I was taken away to a new world and couldn't get enough. I saw it 10 times in it's original run.
Then I saw empire at age 10 and this was the first time I was obsessed with a movie. I saw empire 34 times in it's original run. Yes, I'm not joking 34 damn times. This was my best theatre experience of my childhood.
Then ROTJ came along when I was 13. I saw this once, yes just once. George killed a part of my childhood that day. What's wrong with ROTJ? Hmm lemme think. Well, stupid ewoks, stupid ewoks making the storm troopers look dumber than ever, Jim Hensen influence, Bobba Fett being killed three stooges style with the gayest scream ever (I believe the wilhem scream), this crabby sounding emperor instead of the one I knew from empire (yes I've grown used to him and like him now just not then) seeing Vader face. etc. I could go on and on.
I still think ROTJ is the worst of the lot. Yes, EP 1 is pretty bad, but it gave me what I consider one of the best fights in any film ever (maul of course) and EP II is not that bad, or as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Thank you for getting what I posted unlike the other two. And regards to the below post, How I pictured it is you wouldn't have to have the anakin/obi battle at the beginning necessarily, even 3/4's of the way through. Obi might have even thought anakin perished and then this new sith lord rises and kills most of the jedi. And it would fit with obi saying in the trailer 'who could have done this?'. After all, it's implied in a new hope that vader is well known, well, well known for what?
Ahh I'm rambling now, I'm just disappointed that we are not going to see this.
I was really excited when I saw the last trailer for ROTS and still am, but George mentioned in an interview: "Obviously, fans would love to see a movie about Darth Vader running around killing people. I'm not telling that story, and I'm not interested in that. That's not what the movie is."
Now, I didn't necessarily expect to see Darth going around killing everybody, but the original said vader hunted down and killed the jedi. I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to see that, not anakin do this (as is implied in the trailer), but vader.
Imagine the last trailer the exact same way, but when anakin is walking with the army and where you see him attack a few people, replace that with vader. That would kick ass!
What I don't get about George is he knows lots of fans want this, but says 'naaah, screw it'. Imagine writing a play and you come to a scene that you know will having people on their feet cheering and you say naw screw that scene. I know I know, George has his grand vision and all, even though he struggled to write this. He had to force himself to stay at his desk or he said otherwise he'd only get a page done a day, so this definately doesn't 'flow' from him.
I dunno, to not see vader throw it down one more time is just wrong.
I remember waaayyy back having the odd problem of trillian being locked out of one of the popular protocols and then there'd be a patch to fix it. A game of cat and mouse but in the meantime you couldn't contact your buddies.
Doesn't this still happen? I'm officially an old fart now and don't really IM anybody. The internet is an isolated experience for me now with no realtime communication and I'll wait days sometimes before I actually check my personal email. I found IM getting in the way of whatever I wanted to do so stopped running it.
Now it's just the phone or actually clanging glass and saying 'Cheers!'
"No, just ghosting, snow, and a wrath of other problems."
Yes but my point is I'm getting the worst of both worlds. I get the ghosting, snow etc that I've always had, plus the pixelation of digital compression. I'd expect the pixels if I went digital not if I stay on analog.
I know all this new tech is really exciting, but I haven't taken this plunge yet and I'm on basic ole cable with my basic old tv. But yet, just about every channel these days suffers from macro blocks at any given time. It's really damn annoying. Analog didn't suffer from this. So I assume it all has already switched to digital and just being sent the last mile as analog, but still, you'd think if they were sending it as analog you wouldn't see this crap.
Oh and btw, the animated logos are bad enough, but the volume changing from the actual show to commericals is just plain evil. For years I've fallen asleep to tv using it's timer but the volume difference has made that impossible now.
Forgive me if it's obvious, but I'm part of the dropped on my head several times in my youth club so I don't see why they'd want to do this.
I can just picture the development of this.
Head Honcho: Ah I see our new file format is coming along nicely... Wait! You forgot to encrypt the white balance! For god's sake man think! The White balance! The WHITE BALANCE!!!!!
Mcd's spends all this money on research of where they will open a new mcd's. They look at traffic, average income of given area and all this other crap before deciding. And once they finally decide burger king opens up one right across the street.
I have a somewhat modern machine, a p4 1.6 gf4ti 4200, but only 128 megs of ram.
One game i love to play in linux is enemy territory. I just get by with 128 megs of ram but it works. In 2.4 maps take about 30-45 secs to load. Most servers won't kick me with these load times so I can play as much as I want.
On 2.6 however, the first map loads about as fast as 2.4 or maybe a couple of seconds faster. But every map thereafter gets longer and longer in loading times. I'm talking from 40 secs to eventually 200 seconds and then I get dropped from the server.
I've tried various versions of 2.6. Tried some of the mm patches. Yes I made sure X had a nice value of 0. I filed a bug http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2191 and had exchanges with andrew morton but in the end it didn't get resolved so back to 2.4.
I wanted to go to 2.6 cause everything else seems much smoother.
Has anyone else found that 2.6 has worse swap/load issues when ram is at a minimum? Any workaround?
Also, the multiplayer isn't the same executable as the SP game, and it's probably nearly unchanged from Pandora Tomorrow.
I heard about this, I read that it is actually the pandora tomorrow engine for the multiplayer. Why the hell would they do this?! That would be like Buying Halflife 2 but the multiplayer uses the halflife 1 engine.
I guess a weird benefit of this is if your system can't handle the single player well, it has a better chance of being fine for multiplayer.
But I've never heard of any game doing such a thing.
I'm glad there is an extension for this, but this should really be by default though. Galeon, or epiphany do not exhibit this.

Goddamn the man's brilliant.

Curious what dx9 games people have thrown at it to see what works. Also wondering when these would make it in mainline.

I dunno...
I really glad awhile back when my buddy was raving about this movie called the matrix, and he said 'You know what the matrix is, it's...'
And I promptly cut him off, and I'm so glad I did, as I walked into that movie knowing nothing and well you know what a treat that was.
