Isn't it interesting that this android/fembot was made in Japan? Doesn't this bring back flashbacks of Season1 of Battlestar Galactica where they had a hottie Asian cylon?
Methinks my fantasies I had while watching that show might come true here in a few years....
The demise of the floppy has been speculated for years now. This article, while well written, seems a little basic for/. readers, and frankly, a little dated.
It wasn't a bad article, but do we need to be reminded three times that floppies only contain 1.44 MB of data? And how many/. readers were enlightened to hear about the availability of jump drives?
Heh heh, me too! I don't think that his recent films all out suck, I just don't think they live up to his earlier works. Nausicaa and Laputa both had involving action plots, interesting characters and well conceived fantasy worlds. Spirited Away and Mononoke had the fantasy elements, but I left the theatre scratching my head.
I don't think he's in a downward spiral, I just think he's off course a little.
Miyazaki's older works appealed more to general audiences. His recent works (Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl) will appeal to critics and anime nuts, but not general audiences. Movies like Totoro and Laputa could reach American viewers more than the newer ones.
I am a little disappointed with his latest films. They all have the creativity and beautiful animation that he's known for, but the stories are kind of lacking. If he stayed on track with his older films, he could have owned Disney.
I mean, they're gonna take their kids to see it anyway, right? I've seen parents take kids that are 3-4 years old to violent Rated R movies. I'm surprised anybody complained.
I might be barking up the wrong tree on this one, but can we possibly only have links to sites that have enough bandwidth for/. users? It's pretty frustrating to click on links only have to have them denied because the site is a rinky-dink home site with too little bandwidth.
Has anyone noticed that a lot of the incommpatible products are competing Anti-virus and firewall programs? I saw Blackice and NPF on the list a few times.
So, we're going to have UN "Peacekeepers" starring in the movie?
No, not at all. I'm not opposed to violence in movies. What I hate is when there's ONLY violence and no story. When the only entertainment in a movie is the violence, then I'm not only disappointed, I'm bored. I loved Braveheart, for example, which was one of the most violent movies I've ever seen. But it had a great story, so I can watch it multiple times.
You might counter that Sin City did in fact have a story (or multiple mini-stories). I guess what I mean is a GOOD story. When people talk about Sin City, they'll either mention the visuals (which were very impressive), or they'll talk about the violence. Few people will discuss the story(ies) in the film.
And incidentally, I'm not trolling. The original post said he wished Rodriguez would direct. I had to state my own opinion. Or would you be happier if I just conformed and didn't express any dissent?
That way, we could have the transformers cannibalize people, the bad guy could be a Catholic priest Decepticon, etc. The Autobots can use guns, axes, etc to hack their opponents to death, all while smoking and hanging with prostitutes. I think Optimus Prime would look awesome chopping up a bunch of people in the crotch with an axe while on drugs.

You can also set up Bayesian filtering. You can ban by country. If you really insist on never ever seeing another spam (at the cost of a few legit emails), run the blackhole filters. You can pick your blackholes.
I've been thinking of doing that. When I look in the headers, I see most of these mails come from Russia or Romaina or someplace like that. I get a lot of mail from Japan but that's about it. So if I ban certain countries (like the entire former Soviet bloc!) then that will probably help.
I just get curious as to how the next releases of anti-spam software can stop spams that have all of their words in graphics. Most/. readers are hackers so they know the best ways to stop them, but what about average users? This is gonna vex them good.

What email client are you using to set the rules that allow you to do that? I haven't looked at rules setup long enough to see if I can route HTML mail.
The bigger question is: how do we get filters to stop spams that don't have any trigger words, other than by using black/whitelists? Since there's no words like vi@g.ra or pe!nis in them, they'd be pretty hard to catch.

To begin, disable HTML email!...E-mail should be plain old text.
I agree. It's already set to that. That won't keep the spam from getting in my mailbox, since the messages don't contain any trigger words.

yeah, read and send all your mail in plain text format..
That will keep me from reading the SPAM, but it will still get through the filter. I already do that.
Thanks anyway.

I get Spams now that have about 2-3 paragraphs of text that are mostly plagurized poetry, then all of the words that trigger spam filters are in the grpahics included in the HTML email. It's a smart tactic (albeit annoying). It really throws off the spam filters. Does anyone else get a lot of these? Anyway to filter them out?
They change the bogus names and email addresses, of course, but the ads clearly are coming from the same source.
Does anybody still remember the Oil for Food debacle? Or should we let those idiots run the Internet as well?
No, keep the UN out of my Internet! Please!!!
I think that proves that National Review is not propaganga but is in fact, serious political debate. They DON'T express opinions for such shallow reasons, but they do it out of reason and from their own thoughts.
It's a good magazine and website. Jonah Goldberg is a genius. It's worth your time.

An interesting read but it's a little pedestrian.
I saw the first 5 episodes or so and I wasn't that impressed. Maybe this time it'll be better.
I guess the real joke will be if this clown gets re-elected....

Sorry, had to vent.
How conspicuous.
Right on! Rodriguez makes bad movies that look good.
Very well put.

From the article:
"...to create this pseudo-RAM or in Microsoft's terms - Virtual Memory"
Didn't this term exist already? I think MacOS used it before Microsoft. Anybody know?
Nye might have been okay, but Beakman rocked.
Akira had great animation, but as a film it just sucked. I hope Steamboy doesn't take 25 minutes to end after the climax of the story like Akira did.
