Anybody who has a "computer literate" 3 year old is, more or less, forcing this down the throats of their kids. They are doing a huge diservice to them. Childeren of that age should do things that involve kid to kid interaction, like yard games and such.
It depends on what level you consider "computer literate". Some of my 3 year old nephews love to use the computer. They have a full grasp of Thomas the Tank Engine games. Mouse and all. I don't know if I consider that computer literate, but atleast computer functional.
And I don't know about you, but my video rental place has even the new releases DVDs available for 2 days. What is with this 24 hour stuff? While I can see this useful for a laptop while traveling, I can just as easily use SmartRipper and start up the DVD directory in WinDVD. Voila, movies to go. When you are done seeing it, delete it.
Add in the fact that you don't have to worry about the tape that you watched part of, but not all, so you can't use it to record other things. As soon as you delete any program, the space is available for recording, unlike partially used VHS tapes.
The Wishlist feature is also incredible. Set it up with a few of your favorite actors and show type of "Talk Show" and it will record whenever they are on Leno or Letterman, or whatever. You didn't realize that they were going to be, it just recorded the shows for you.
A TiVo is like the Matrix. No one can tell you what it is, you have to experience it for yourself.
Except the smart TiVo owners just pay $250 for lifetime service (for the unit). I don't know about you, but a 60 hours TiVo is $300. At my billing rates, $250 is 2.5 hours. It would take me MUCH LONGER than 2.5 hours to get the software on my PC hacked setup to work with whatever guide data I found.
Other than the reference design, TiVo IS more of a software than a hardware company. All of the TiVo PVRs are made by either Phillips or Sony.
While I agree with your comment that TiVo is more of a software than a hardware company, you should know that Series 2 60 and 80 Gig TiVos are in fact produced by TiVo. Philips has not produced a Series 2 device (and will not be). AT&T are the only other company that has produced a Series 2 device. Sony will most likely do so.
I use the Ositech modem to connect with my Verizon StarTac phone. I used it for connection all across the US on my bicycle tour. The standard Motorola kits only work with digital service (AFAIK), but the Ositech can be used in digital and analog. I found analog to be much more useful for long connections. I can be online with only 2 bars of signal in an analog mode for until my battery dies (1.5 hours). In digital, I could only stay connected for 10-20 minutes at best, if I had 4-5 bars. I would have trouble with 3 minutes if I was unter 4 bars. Connection speed for the Ositech setup was always 19.2k. Not fast, but solid for email.
My Libretto has a nice screen, but went from 2 hours of battery life to 0, in a week. Something in the battery is setup wrong, as it couldn't loose that much capacity that quick. Very annoying. I miss the little bugger. It made it 3,200 miles across the country on a bicycle with me, only to fart out sitting on my couch...
This has been done. Someone at the TivoCommunity forum has replaced the hash we are trying to solve with a known hash. Then entering the code with enable back doors. What we are trying to do is find the correct code, so Joe User doesn't have to pull out his drive from the TiVo and hack around just to get back doors.
You forgot to blame us TiVo users. We upgrade capacity with 2 x 120 Gig drives and they are writing and reading 24x7. The heat in the case can get a little excessive if you are dumb enough to install 7200s instead of the more than fast enough and cooler 5200s. But most of us just want more recording capacity and aren't compensating for anything...:)
Again, IMHO, it would be just as absurd for Walmart to refuse to sell a video game because it portrayed people eating or sleeping as it is for them to refuse to sell a game because it showed the human body or people engaging in sex.
These people ARE telling me how to live my life, because they won't let me, a 37 year man, even buy it. Walmart, and the wackos who have picketed retailers in the past, are puting their values over mine. In a lot of places, Walmart may be the only outlet for video games. I agree that minors should not be able to buy stuff like this, but to bannish it altogether from the store because it shows the human body in its natural state is definitively preverse.
Oh Please... How is WalMart telling you how to live your life by not selling you the game? Is WalMart the only source of the game? NO. You obviously have connection to the internet and posted here. Give some site your credit card number and a guy or gal in a funny outfit will deliver a package to your house with all the smut you desire. If I had a restaurant, I would not serve alcohol. If I had a store, I would not sell cigarettes. This would hurt my bottom line somewhat, but I don't use or would want to be associated with distributing either substances. How would this be telling you how to live? Go to the competition and buy it there. If there is demand, there is always a source. Even if the product is illegal. Stop whining about how people are telling you how to live your life. No one is.
I HAD to get titanium frames on my glasses, because my sweat is so acidic. The other glasses I used to wear when I worked out had some type of metal that was pulverized after one year of sweat exposure. The titanium looks just like new, after almost two years. Did I mention they are light.:)
Can you store your shirt on a server and make identical, perfect copies of it? No. Didn't think so. I may partly agree with you, but the issue isn't that simple.
Why is that? When you travel for your company, the individual doing the traveling gets the Frequent Flier miles. The individual had to purchase nothing to get the miles for the flight.
And it is a good idea to test the new sub-orbital craft with people who are buying with FF-miles, because they probably don't have the cash to purchase the actual ticket in the first place. This means that their family probably doesn't have the money to sue the company when the new test plane... umm......doesn't work.
While in my current job, I am developing with quite a few Microsoft technologies, I was immediately turned off to them when going to interviews my senior year. The Microsoft interviewer was in the same area as other companies I wanted to interview with. He had on a t-shirt and sweats, had orange hair and smelled like he had not seen a shower in a few days. When a college student takes the effort to get dressed up in a nice suit and you flip him off in dirty sweats, it is a serious lack of respect.
I remember reading about some drunks who were forced to equip their cars with a breathalizer device that they had to use before the car was able to start. This would be a decent authorization process before being allowed to operate a motor vehicle.

Actually, I ride a bike to the shop.

Head over to any of the large Palm software sites and there are Guitar and Bass programs for chords and tuning.
I use Palm Chord all the time on my Guitar when I am trying to figure out the best fingering for a given chord.
I personally think all the insecure nerds who bought an Xbox just need vindication for choosing a gameless system.
Or you have those of us who don't have time to play 200 PS2 games and like those few far superior games that we have time to play on the XBox.
Next thing is we are going to see some orginization sueing the schools for infringing upon the students 1st Amendment rights. Sheesh.

I would say that it isn't considered karma whoring when no-one mods you up. So it looks like you aren't karma whoring. :)
I think you are looking for http://www.widescreen.org/examples.shtml.
I always wondered why CowboyNeal was so positive about everything...

Don't cloud a good argument with the facts!
A better analogy is the phone company is responsible for obscene phone calls.
