I would agree that WoW is NOT revolutionary. What they have done is taken a lot of elements from other games that work well, and rolled it up into one extremely fun, well presented package. The game is simply a hell of a lot of fun to play.
You know, they don't just run the server on a PC. It's not like someone at home would have the hardware required to run their own WoW server - not to mention the required database licenses, etc.
It's not as simple as hosting a game of DOOM.
The better skilled player wins the battles, not the highest level player.
That's the difference between an online game and an online role playing game. In an RPG the player (that's a real person) takes on the role of a character - it's the characters skill and level - NOT THE PLAYERS - that is supposed to determine how good the character is at things (fighting, for example).
Remember: Player: the actual person playing the game, this person doesn't necessarily actually know how to shoot a gun, fight in melee combat, pilot a spaceship, etc. Character: The in game "person" that the player controls. This should be considered a completely seperate persona that is not necessarily related to the player in any way. A single player can "posses" multiple characters, who may actually have opposing agendas, goals, etc.
That's why it's called a role playing game.
Perhaps this kind of game (RPG) just isn't for you - many people hate them and want their own skill to make the difference, but thats not how an RPG is supposed to work - the characters skill is everything. In an RPG, the way a players skill comes into play is in knowing how to make use of the characters skills in any given situation.
Why when every other part of a computer has gotten cheaper over the years do video cards get more expensive?
This is simply not true. Video cards have not gotten more expensive. Top end video cards have been $400+ for many years. Most other components still cost about the same as they did "years" ago if you buy the top end stuff too. You can get a low or mid range video card now for about the same price low and mid range video cards have been for years. Hell, my MythTV is using a 30 dollar Geforce 2 MX with TV-out (30 bucks) that is still servicable for most applications.
Seriously, the only people who need to worry about spending $200, $300, $400 (or more!) on a video card are hardcore gamers. Nearly everyone else can use a $50 dollar video card and be perfectly happy.
This is a really great idea! I have the same problem as the original poster. About every year and a half I drop a few grand on a top of the line system - just because I can't stand not to have the best. I have old computers littering my house, some of them are actually better than the ones many of my friends still use, but they are basically junk to me (well, except for the one I made into my MythTV:) )
I paid $400 for a Geforce 2 GTS when they were top of the line. I also paid $400 for a Geforce FX 5950 Ultra last year. $400 dollars has been the going rate for "top of the line" video cards for many years (at least 5, probably more). Where have you been?
I think it's great they are offering a mid price range video card with more power than the top of the line a year ago, but when I buy a new video card, it's still going to be whatever is top of the line at the time.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!
Darth Vader = Anikin Skywalker = Luke's Dad
Oh yeah, and Leia is his sister.
Mebbe you should go watch them all again, and say 'hi' to Jar Jar for me.
...also, they continuously harp on the "fact" that MythTV doesn't have a live tv window in the programming guide, which is utter BS! I've been running Mythtv since.14, and it has always had this (for me), you just have to turn the friggin feature on in the configuration!
I actually own a Replay TV (in the family room) and a Myth TV (in my bedroom), and although the MythTV isn't as polished, it has WAY more functionality than the commercial unit.
Every experienced, professional programmer knows you never put your name in the source code!! Somebody is bound to ask you a year from now what the hell it's supposed to do, and you can never feign ignorance!
They are havens for pornographers that project their filth into your homes when your kids innocently seek to find their favorite artists.
Maybe they should sue the senators kids, since by this statement, the RIAA is assuming they are using p2p software.
So what if "two wrongs don't make a right?"
Just because something is illegal doesn't make it 'wrong'. I enjoy these kinds of tales, and wish the scammers got scammed more often.
It would be hilarious if the first showing got sold out through internet sales before he could buy one at the ticket booth.
Those games aren't even int he same genre, neither do they generate a monthly revenue stream.

HAH, you play in a world with Taru Taru and you call WoW too cartoony?
It's better than Skynet :)

Didn't I see that in Highlander 3?
I agree. I have two computers at home that were purchased with valid Windows licenses that are now running Linux.p.
What are you talking about? I've already downloaded it on Bittorrent!

Your computer had a hard drive when you were 12? Your not old... ;)
Unenforcable.

All I can think about is the scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where they are using 'logic' to prove that a witch weighs the same as a duck...
That's good to know! I was just thinking about canceling my Computer Gaming World subscription!
Where the heck do you get your car fixed for only 30 bucks an hour!?

Maybe the Daleks are on one of them!
