  1. Re:My Pick for geek toy... CyBook Gen3! on Tech Gifts for the Holidays · · Score: -1

I love ebooks and have been reading them for years. I think the real issue is the one-trick-pony readers. I won't pay for or carry something the is for ebooks only and/or incorporates DRM. I am currently using the obscure linux-based Gamepark Holdings GP2X. I have about 500 novels on it. And a bunch of game emulators, Strider, Quake etc. And a bunch of music. And movies like Fear & Loathing and Blade Runner DC right now. And a whole bunch of other stuff besides. I really wish the publishers would sell me text files for a reasonable price. Another example of business shooting itself in the foot on the web.

Well, if typing in the notes is working okay, couldn't you take a picture of the diagram with a digicam? Sure, you'll look insane typing like crazy and shooting pictures, but damn, that shit will be well documented. Plus your prof will feel like a movie star.

I am hearing impaired and I sit in a room full of servers and loud Cisco switches. My hearing aids use digital signal processing to filter backgound noise, it works rather well. Of course, they cost $2,500 each.

I personnally never liked the twiddly-fingered big-haired cock rockers. Kurt's raw guitar playing is much more expressive than complex playing meant to impress other players.

I have a buddy who lives in an apartment building. He has an open WIFI in his apartment. The WAP has pretty good range, and he has several neighbors leeching off of him. So, at random times midway through the evening, he will turn off the WAP or unplug the cable modem for awhile. No one has had the balls to complain (yet) but he has heard someone complain in the elevator about the "free" wireless problems.

I am sure many folks already know this, but I wanted to throw this out there for anyone who has not. Using Image>Mode>Grayscale is not the best method of creating grayscales from color in Pshop. Try using the R, G or B channels in the Channels palette. Each of these grayscale images will have different qualities according to it's spectrum.Or try using the channel mixer with the monochrome setting turned on. No, it won't look as good a film, but it will look better.

Amen, brother. The only people I have seen who actually think ringtones are cool are clueless late 40's/early 50's technoidiots. They can't configure an email client, but they sure can order a new ringtone every week. A loud ringtone in a inappropriate area is the social equivilant of randomly screaming a racist remark.
