Camino is a good browser, but once khtml matures its likely to outperform the gecko engine.
For me the biggest difference is that safari still chokes on pages that the gecko engine will not but with the determination and skill of the Safari team this will not be the case for long.
Safari is my default browser since its beta, and my money is on them for the long term. However it is really nice to have options.
Actually... they did. They lowered the price considerably on a couple of occasions. However Munich wound up approving the go ahead of a more expensive solution despite the Microsoft price cuts.
I doubt we'll even get so far as to see this happen.
How many ipod users do you think are running over to the Real music store?
iTunes offers more music at the some price that is easily downloaded and added to your ipod. Do you really think enough ipod users will run over and buy music from rea,l before apple disables the Real 'Hack', for this to even be a big deal?
This is only a big deal to those of us reading slashdot where we can argue the legality of the hack and judge the ethics of apple in and Real in defending there respective positions.
If evil is protecting your products from companies who wish to reverse engineer them for their own personal gain, then yes i guess apple is guilty as charged.
Someone reverse engineers a product they don't have license to and apple should drop legal action and offer them said license that was denied in the first place?
Actually, your comparison of Apple to MS is wrong. You should compare REAL to MS in this case.
Real: "License FairPlay to us, we want to offer our files to ipod users."
Apple: "Not interested, sorry"
Real: "Ok, then we'll just force our way into the ipod"
Hmmm, who in this scenario is just like Microsoft?
Here's a tip:
Order of operations dictates that you THINK, then post...
Make's you wonder what what OS X would have been like had Apples plan to by BeOS not fallen through.
BeOS had a lot of features NeXT did not have and some that are just being implemented now, such as journaled file systems found in Panther.
I do the same thing with mixed results. People don't want to learn anything new, they want something familiar that is one of the main reasons it is so hard to get people to switch. They give up before they have a chance to discover the benefits of a browser like firefox or mozilla because it doesn't immediate emulate IE.
Want a rather extreme example? Many people i've switched to mozilla are bothered by the fact that their favorites are now called bookmarks... so much so that they'll go back. Now thats a rather extreme example but people like the familiar and mozilla while better is still different, sometimes too much different for your average joe.

A big blow to Camino would be a cross-platform Google browser based on Gecko...

OK, try socially engineering the mods on your way to -1 troll...
Not until geeks become meteorologists. Right now they only recruit dorks...
Yes, as a matter of fact you can. Apple itunes allows you to download(for free) the speeches from both conventions right from the music store.
Actually... they did. They lowered the price considerably on a couple of occasions. However Munich wound up approving the go ahead of a more expensive solution despite the Microsoft price cuts.
Here's the usa today article
...till then they'll just argue over the hanging chads...

My guess is that round three will be a software update to the apple ipod which disables the 'functionality' that real player has created.
Compatibility, choice and quality are critically important to consumers...
In regards to real player these attributes are best defined as:
Compatibility: Real files only play in real player
Choice: Choose between real player basic (spyware laden) or real player premium (less spyware laden)
Quality: Only the highest quality spyware included in RealPlayer
WOW! are you saying people need to keep using IE because 'broken' sites exist due to poor developers?
Well then maybe i should wear a condom under my pants because people are walking around with HIV.
Do you mean word? Word doc's open in Text Edit and obviously word.
Powerpoint? You can use Keynote and Powerpoint on the mac.
Excel? We have that too?
Zip files? no, those open too (natively in 10.3)

How sensible...

No, some use Mac's :)
If you train mail properly you can get up to 98% accuracy. It's training ability is what makes it far superior to a typical bayesian filtering system. More information can be found here: http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2004/05/18/s pam_pt2.html?page=1
Did you notice that most of the bidders have little or no feedback? Probably deadbeat bidders just having fun and driving up the price.
If he was he wouldn't even have to ask this question.
