Amazon behaves like the world is the USA ignoring local laws, they do not pay their workers properly, fight unions, works council and other worker representation in their company, they pressure delivery services and personnel, they pressure cities to commit to their needs and pay subsidies. Really, do not shop there. Shop somewhere else.

Keeping prices low by keeping overhead low through cheap labor and telling useless unions to fuck off sounds like good business.

For a person with no marketable skill, some money is better than no money. We're at a point where unskilled workers can either work for cheap or replaced by automation.

Leveraging demands on the USPS, which is an incredible failure for an organization that functions as a national monopoly, sounds like the average taxpayer getting more for their money than they might otherwise.

  7. Re:Fuck that on When No One Retires (hbr.org) · · Score: 1

You are right that many people want to return to work soon after retirement. It's because the average person doesn't know what to do with himself when someone else isn't telling him what to do. I've known multiple people who developed into adults without goals or hobbies of their own. They did what the boss said at work, they went home and did what their wife said, maybe watched TV and did what it said, and followed that pattern for 30+ years.

As the recent memes illustrate, most people are NPCs, incapable of believing there are self-directing people who think, invent, create, and carve their own path through any circumstances. Not everyone will struggle with retirement. I look so forward to having to do nothing but what is on my own extensive list: books to read, home modifications to make, endless miles to explore in my 4x4, plus whatever I might be able to do with family and friends when work no longer occupies 60% of my time.

I've always agreed with you, but never thought about it that way. Me personally, I took an FJ Cruiser, lifted it, added lights, a tent, awnings, power ports, and aftermarket tires to create a capable and comfortable overlanding rig. Take the OEM reliability, add a hot shower and comfortable bed anywhere, and you have what I've built upon the work of others.

Besides that, my career is in construction. While I have built items of my own design, most of the time I have taken structures built by others, then modified them meet modern wants or needs. In no instance was the individual who came before me compensated again.

  15. They broke the reviews then claim no one uses them on Netflix Is Ending Reviews July 30th · · Score: 1, Offtopic

Netflix had entered the big time, landing a special from Amy Schumer that was going to open the door for them to millions more customers, the way Howard Stern did for Sirius. But then...it wasn't very good.

There was their big star - fresh, uncensored, and squeezed into a scandalous leather leather outfit. It was going to be epic! Glitz, glamour, buzz...but then the material was flat. On top of that, she used the special as a platform to demonize gun owners, who never take lightly the suggestion that they surrender their rights, and she was an outspoken supporter of Clinton, who lost the election just days after the release of the special.

There are two types of people in the world: those who don't review Netflix titles, and those who do. Those who do were merciless. In a panic, Netflix broke its otherwise-reliable ratings system, then just left it that way.

If the show had been funny, people would have overlooked the gun rant. Without the gun rant, her performance and the leather probably would have been enough. As it wound up, it just didn't work. But I still like Amy, leather, and guns.
