Of the many ways to die I would choose to be under the influence of morphine. It is so peaceful and relaxing morphine doesn't just take away pain it takes away the fear of death.
Not only that you can still talk and calm the fears of the people round you. We all understand that death occurs but its harder to accept your own, morphine is really good for that...
your twisting that word legally from meaning you can do anything you like to it, too implying are things you cannot do without incurring the wrath of the law.
Because the truth is you can modify your vehicle in whatever manner you choose. Now the results of your modifications might result in a vehicle which is no longer road legal but you might not want it for road use. For example my brothers track bike which was never put on a highway or ever road legal but was very good on the track.
You see it is yours and you can mod it and perhaps as a result of your modding somethings are closed to you but on the other hand it opens up other opportunities.
As someone who rode motorcycles for years the assumption that any driver will make a safe/legal driving move is dangerous to your survival.
A better strategy is to look at the hazards and react and plan accordingly. When I worked as a courier in London the most dangerous times were from about 4 till 6 this is when the 9-5 office types and school moms hit the roads and drivers were less predictable.
Texting while driving seems rather stupid if your not sat stationary in traffic. Make a call if its that important, ideally hands free.
even better get your passenger to deal with calls or messages, which is also why you can't use movement to decide if a call or text is legal or safe.
I don't understand people who stand around and do nothing. Over the years I've been in a number of situations where something happened, something needed to be done and I've gone and done it because somebody had to.
Maybe it is part of my nature, I'm not a little guy and its natural for me to take care of people. I would feel pretty bad if I didn't. It's part of my sense of self worth.
So how can you do nothing when every thought your having is somebody should do something?
Ok I know regulations differ between countries but at least in the UK
mains wiring is twin and earth with the earth wire not shielded and thinner than the other two cores.
when making a connection green and yellow shielding is used which again makes the earth wire easy to identify.
If you are correct that the American system makes the identification of an earth wire purely on color then American wiring is inherently more dangerous than it needs to be.
Theres an interesting word failsafe and its meaning is literally to fail safe. This seems to be the general weakness here that when things go wrong they go wrong in a dangerous way rather than a safe way.
Accidents do happen but the important thing is to learn from them and improve procedures so that they can't happen or people are aware of the danger.
When it comes to medical problems you can be your own fail safe. you know which elbow was dislocated I know which pills I should be taking so when mistakes are made we catch them after all its in our best interest that we take an active part in our treatment.
At first glance the fact that a book can only be lent to one person at a time might make it seem that you could be waiting a considerable time for a particular book.
However you ignore the fact there are thousands of other books available, even with text books you will have key information in a number of other books. If you can't find a book available then you can choose another. If you really want a particular book you can have it reserved and usually in your hands within 4 weeks. If its not available in your local branch often you can request it from another library.
most people who read will have a number of books waiting to be read. If you really want it soon you can probably buy it within a few days and even second hand for much less than the cover price in most cases.
The big issue that most publishers ignore is price and convenience maybe one day more of them will get it.
Losing readers that don't actually bring revenue, thats an interesting phrase however readers that don't pay do enhance a sites reputation. Slashdot for example has a minority of subscribers that pay but the additional costs of catering to the non payers is quite marginal and enhances the value of the site.
How influential is a site with a small paying readership against one with millions. Whats the value of an editorial or an exclusive with a small audience?
News can be spun , elections won or lost , reputations made or broken. By giving up the free loading readers , you lose power and influence. Everyone will claim to think for themelves but most will actually take the offered viewpoint.

A book does discriminate, hence large print editions to enable partially sighted users access to content. You see making things accessible isn't impossible or even difficult.
Actually in this case its an interesting angle of attack. The kindle could be far more accessible to blind or partially sighted users. We already know that text to speech was taken out of the kindle due to Publishers wanting to restrict any possible reduction in sales of audio books.
Since the function is there but disabled then yes the kindle is discriminating against the blind. now if there is any legislation that could force the re-enabling of this feature then the law might be able to trump the publishers.
I'm sure amazon won't protest too much if they are forced to re-enable a feature they were forced to disable.
Theres probably enough sales now for publishers to accept the re-enabling rather than lose future ebook sales or worse take ebooks away from the kindle that have already been sold. Presumably they would have to refund the cost of any ebooks they force to be deleted.
Prices for braille displays are insanely expensive the last link costs $4,750 but there is Linux support for braille displays (isn't the kindle linux based?) although perhaps they would be forced to use the SD card slot for I/O (its been used to add TV to PDA's among other devices ) unfortunately the Kindle2 drops the SD card Slot and removable battery http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9127739/Kindle_fans_upset_that_Kindle_2_drops_SD_slot_replaceable_battery
on the other hand a netbook with a good battery and a copy of unswindle http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/12/23/amazon_kindle_hacked/ and the content available on the kindle is available to everybody, proving yet again DRM exists to slap the paying customer in the face. Is there anything DRm'd that can't be got for free with the protection removed?
really the kindles just a portable computer and its limitations are capable of being changed.
Admittedly it varies from region to region but 21% of what google gets paid is VAT is that not enough? tax Then google is taxed on advertising revenue on top of this.
so why should I subsidize big corporations with my advertising budget? It also makes even less sense to tax advertisements for susan boyles cd. In order to make up for people pirating it.
And how do you even begin to determine who gets paid from this magic slush fund does simon cowel put in a claim for missing out on the christmas number one spot because not enough people bought the crap he's peddling.
nobody pirating anything pays for advertising. There might be some legitimacy to taxing a torrent sites advertising revenue since its made from the sites visitors. Good luck trying to determine what government has the tax rights thou.
A couple of months ago I got emails from other hotmail users giving me a link to a site which offered to check who was blocking or deleted me on msn messenger - just give msn/hotmail address and password to check. checking the site showed it was registered in china.
I sent a reply or two to the hotmail users who's accounts had been used to send me the link to the site. I guess theres plenty of people trusting enough to give away their passwords. Especially when the link appears to come from a friend.
you know there are things called book reviews that tend to help decide what books are worth reading. Heck if a book stinks you can stop reading it.
Your car analogy doesn't apply, a hand built car is a one off a book is exactly the same if there are 10 copies or 10,000 copies. It helps that some authors have a reputation so generally you can expect a certain quality. Admittedly some authors are over-rated overwise i'd never have read a book by Geoffrey Archer.
On the plus side more ebooks should make it easier to get hold of a wider selection of books and then we can buy the good ones.
In the Uk a moped originally had pedals and a capacity of 50cc or less and was a rite of passage as you could ride one at the age of 16 (a motorcycle or car required a minimum age of 17).
This led to sports mopeds like the fs1e , and AP50 2 strokes and the SS50 4 stroke which had pedals which could be moved into a position like foot pegs.
Fantastic speeds were claimed for these bikes but realistically 45 mph flat out was good.
in 1976 the law changed power output was restricted (designed for 30mph top speed and 5 hp). This also removed the nod to being pedal assisted. Derestricting was usual but the 1974 - 1976 registered bikes kept their value due to the legendary top speeds.
They were not great bikes I used to ride an SS50 from Lincoln to Sheffied a distance of 50 odd miles with one or two stops to let the engine cool down, it tended to seize if you pushed it too hard but if you let it cool down it would recover.
SOmeone mentioned MZ motorcyles and quite simply they are tough as old boots. I've seen them used for dispatch bikes normally the main bearings go but can be pressed and replaced. There is no oil pump (petrol/oil mix ) and the gears and clutch splash oil around for lubrication. The electrical system is pretty impressive I had one burn out the resistance wire and lead to the regulator , i unwound the wire coated it with nail varnish and rewound it, chopped out the burnt wire from the loom with some flex and it was up and running again. Another time the condensor which helps regulate the spark failed miles from anywhere I just took it out of circuit and wired directly to the heel of the points. (it ran a bit rougher but only lost 10 -15 mph from the top end keeping up about 45 - 50 mph. (I had a suzuki fail like that and had a 5 mile push).
I can't say I ever liked MZ motorcyles horrible ugly slow noisy smoky vibrating like I don't know what but so tough and simple (even the screws were flat head which meant you could usually get somewhere with a pocket knife and no other tools).
I was searching ''cintiq cheap'' on google But i couldn't find any result with both words, except when there was an ''isn't'' between both words
The trouble is wacom have cornered the market on great tablets and patented the best technology, what i'm looking for is basic drawing capability and touch screen input. (if i was an artist then the cintiq would be very nice but...). i'm thinking more scribling notes sketching a graph writing a formula rather than creating great art.
There probably is a diy solution netbook screens are quite cheap and there are vga to lvds converters and there are touch screen kits. So it might be doable but i sure would love for some company to put it together for me.:)
What I really want is a usb display-link qi screen with touch screen input nice and thin and light probably with a built in usb hub. that I can use with my netbook in one of three ways
As a traditional secondary display used side by side As a input device where sketching a diagram would be handy and other input that a mouse and keyboard doesn't address
finally attached to the back of my netbook screen where it can do duty as a tablet or ebook reader. Some simple suckers to attach it would be good enough.
When you look at the many picture frame designs samsung do a 7inch frame 800x600 with usb display link and 1 gb of storage for £60 retail about the same cost as current console game releases. It should be possible to have this device available for this sort of price or combine it into a picture frame similar to the samsung for not much more than their current device.
I can't see why you would want a tablet when you already have a netbook and the pixel qi technology would extend battery life with the internal display turned off.
I'm sure this could become a common i/o device
there are some similar screens that almost do what I want but currently are not quite there in form functionality or price.

Ok you don't get it,
For a kid below the age of about 7 the world is a magical place and santa is a part of that wonder so is flying raindeer and elves.
The world for most of us is a much more mundane place even with Christianity wedging itself into our magical festival theres not much belief in elves or flying raindeer for the Christians.
It's not really christian.
It's a time for being nice to each other and if magic is real isn't that fantastic isn't the world better for magic? now tell me why you want to suck that joy out of your childrens lives?
now you can be cynical and see it all as a waste of money and exploitation of your wallet but really the look of happiness as your kids unwrap their presents, well worth it.
There is plenty of time for the drudgery that most of us live with the worlds better with santa, and a little magic
roughly i can get power at night for about a 1/3 - 1/2 the price of day units. can I save money by storing night power? well the big question is how efficient is storage if I take 1 kilowatt in how much can i give out 500 watts ? (thats the minimum to break even probably)
the next question is can i run everything on inverters (some stuff can't handle square waves). Not all Inverters are the same some have better wave forms than others. then there is the cost of storage.
It could be interesting if you could get a loan covering the hardware cost with repayments costing less than the electricity you generate.
probably the best you can do is become a part owner of a big wind turbine and use your share of the power sales to pay for your electricity bill.
So, if I acquire a piece of open source software, I should be able to use it however I want?
yes you can use isn't an issue and it shouldn't be.
The thing is you can't expect support when something is used outside of the suppliers term of supply.
If psystar can survive they don't need to do anything with osx any more. We know if we buy the hardware and rebel efi we can install osx on it. We might even be able to supply our own hardware and just buy rebel efi and osx.
it might not be able to survive an update but thats the risk of using osx on third party hardware.
Apple owes us nothing if we choose to use OSX outside of a mac. thats not difficult to understand if thats not acceptable to you then buy the apple approved hardware.
Pulseaudio might work on some systems but on others its broken to one extent or another. What really upsets people is that audio used to work fine and now it doesn't./bin/sh -c "PULSE_SERVER=127.0.0.1 skype"
This allows Skype to use the system audio hardware just as well as it ever did.
Trouble is without this work around the internal microphone is a complete mystery to pulseaudio alsamixer knows its there and can switch it but pulseaudio can't.
I'm sure we will all feel better towards pulseaudio once its working properly but in the meantime its not working not in an alpha or a beta but in the release and there is no update yet.
and yes if your audio hardware us still working you did get lucky.
It's similar to netbook remix but not as annoying. you can easily revert back to standard desktop mode (it is a preview so may have a few bugs but it seems stable)
i had a skype s1 two in fact the first the screen broke the second went into an endless loop and died. a lot of the time they would go to voice mail maybe it was a coverage issue.
i also have an xda universal (mda pro ) currently running windows mobile 6.1 (originally 5.0 but it sucks) with the skype cab for windows mobile i got it to connect with 3 mobile which was handy as i was in hospital with a 99% blocked coronary artery. I used skype to send a few messages to my uncle and 3 had taken about 3 euro's off my credit. for a few lines of text.
It could be that since my phone has never been available on their network they didn't realise it was skype capable. I think I may have solved that issue by pretending my phone is some kind of nokia which supports skype.
i'm very interested in your voip experience with 3 since ekiga keeps complaining that it couldnt configure the network settings. Although my experience is with 3 ireland and each 3 company is a little different. I did manage to get some joy using a free proxy but only on ports 80 and 443 (I do get ssh access to a website of mine so i know thats not blocked. I can't seem to find anything with an open port 5090. If you have any suggestions how to get it working properly i'd appreciate it.
As far as I know they only have one plan for dongles, they do have a different access point for mobile browsing with a fair use limit of 1gb a month (which you could use with your skype phone as it supports bluetooth and usb tethering (certain it works with the s1))
I have been a fairly good customer of 3's both in the uk and ireland with about 4 irish sims 2 uk three usb modems and a couple of s1's
I think it went down hill when they got rid of like home on the uk pay as you go plans.
It depends though, Urban Dictionary you can usually figure out what a word that someone says really means. Using traditional dictionaries you would think that someone says that someone sucks on a rooster...
It doesn't do much for international relationships either when looking for appropriate words to use. If Colins or websters had their way we'd all be virgins.
(longmans is one of the few that might have a few useful words). On the other hand if you don't learn from a native speaker then you are unlikely to need them anyway.

Its a trick which ensures skype uses the alsa drivers without interference from pulse.
I'm not going to claim 9.10 is good for everyone but its not bad for everyone either.

There is plenty of time for the drudgery that most of us live with
the worlds better with santa, and a little magic
roughly i can get power at night for about a 1/3 - 1/2 the price of day units.
can I save money by storing night power?
well the big question is how efficient is storage if I take 1 kilowatt in how much can i give out 500 watts ?
What really upsets people is that audio used to work fine and now it doesn't. /bin/sh -c "PULSE_SERVER=127.0.0.1 skype"
This allows Skype to use the system audio hardware just as well as it ever did.
Trouble is without this work around the internal microphone is a complete mystery to pulseaudio alsamixer knows its there and can switch it but pulseaudio can't.
I'm sure we will all feel better towards pulseaudio once its working properly but in the meantime its not working not in an alpha or a beta but in the release and there is no update yet.
and yes if your audio hardware us still working you did get lucky.
you might like to
sudo aptitude install gnome-shell
and
gnome-shell --replace
It's similar to netbook remix but not as annoying.
you can easily revert back to standard desktop mode (it is a preview so may have a few bugs but it seems stable)
i had a skype s1 two in fact the first the screen broke the second went into an endless loop and died.
a lot of the time they would go to voice mail maybe it was a coverage issue.
i also have an xda universal (mda pro ) currently running windows mobile 6.1 (originally 5.0 but it sucks)
with the skype cab for windows mobile i got it to connect with 3 mobile which was handy as i was in hospital with a 99% blocked coronary artery.
