This could be done by a third party battery company the really big extended battery is quite huge and modding it so it could extend under the eee wouldnt be too hard. Not that it means anything if they didn't but I'm just interested to know their stance. I guess we'll find out when they print their obituary. Try this from the guardian in 2000

    http://books.guardian.co.uk/departments/sciencefiction/story/0,6000,374388,00.html

Rupert and Arthur are good friends. The author of 2001: A Space Odyssey faced his trickiest moment three years ago, when he was turned over by the Sunday Mirror. It was Murdoch who wrote him a "very nice" note promising him that the reporters responsible would never work in Fleet Street again. "He is a rather shy, modest person," Clarke says teasingly. "I find him very deferential."

The Mirror claimed that Clarke had paid young boys for sex. It produced affidavits from the boys in question. Sri Lankan police later disproved them, he says. The story ran two weeks before Prince Charles flew to Sri Lanka to confer a knighthood on the grand old man of science fiction. The saga was the lowest point in his career. At a banquet in his honour Clarke, who has post polio syndrome, found himself hobbling away from the press, pursued by an unctuous reporter from the Daily Telegraph. The episode still upsets him. "I take an extremely dim view of people mucking about with boys," Clarke says. "The whole thing was distressing to me. It was vindictive and very unpleasant. I can only assume it was a plot to embarrass Prince Charles." The novelist finally got his gong this May, at a low-key ceremony at the British high commission in Colombo.

Clarke's private life remains a mystery. He was married briefly to an American, Marilyn Mayfield, now dead, whom he met while diving in Florida in the 50s. Asked whether he is gay, Clarke always gives the same puckish pro forma answer: "No, merely cheerful." The answer, presumably, lies in the "Clarkives" - a vast collection of his manuscripts and private writings, to be published 50 years after his death. A further quote
""I had an operation for prostate cancer 10 years ago," Clarke says. "I haven't the slightest interest in sex."

He deserves respect, not anonymous sniping , for his remarkable influence and contributions to humanity.

    Rest in Peace Sir Arthur.

Now lets pretend we all stay completely within the law, how does a band get exposure radio
well here is the playlist for radio1 a national station http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/playlist/ its a total of 58 tracks. to be played over the course of a week. not much exposure for bands not on the playlist. By restricting our exposure to legal sources we don't get to hear even 1% of the music available. On the other hand, the way the world really works is that people do share their musical tastes with their friends. Realistically most of us get introduced to a particular artists music through our friends and if we like it we tend to buy at least a percentage of it. A well put together mix Cd could contain many different artists and tracks. (rarely do record labels do a good job of this, they always add filler). Your illegal Cd can be key to many legal sales, due to the exposure of the artists on the mix cd.

So while illegal copying can be seen as a negative, it largely isn't. It's building a fan base. The actions of the RIAA far from raising legal sales, positively discourages the dissemination of an artists music , limiting an artists exposure and reducing the potential fan base of an artist.

"The record companies can sell their products for whatever price they want to. Just like any other company. They make outrageous profit selling CDs for $15 each, but that's not illegal, and as long as people keep buying them for that price, they'll keep doing it."

Isn't the RIAA saying that people are not buying CD's at $15 at least not enough of them, hence the crack down on individual piracy. The real damage to music sales is counterfeit CD's and I have never seen any argument posted here that counterfeiters deserve any sympathy.

say if the median transfer speed was 5kb/s then a peer offering 10kbs or higher would be used in preference to a local peer offering 5 kb/s.

    kind of an attractiveness rating.

If this was in place what would it mean for an ISP?

Suppose an ISP had two upload caps a higher one for intranet transfers and a lower one for internet traffic that needs to leave their intranet. This would increase the attractiveness of local connections since they would be faster.

What are the consequences of a dual upload rate?
presumably the larger ISP's will have more peers than smaller peers. This will make a larger Isp's services more attractive for people interested in p2p

However smaller Isp's would tend to lose their least profitable customers, while needing much less bandwidth for the remaining light users.

It might even keep an ISP's customers away from Media Sentry's IP ranges.

Even outside of Scotland, what property owners are allowed to do is limited, Think planning permission, excessive noise, length of grass in some cases with housing associations.

Even if you argue intellectual property having the same status as physical property, ownership of property doesn't actually mean you can do what you will with it, and certainly in the case of Scotland landowners are pretty much forced to give the public free access, even though you might wish to be paid for the access or deny it altogether.
