IIRC they had to fly up and correct the lens with some contraption because someone/someteam had screwed up the numbers when building it.
Isn't that so?
IIRC the mirror was ground with gravity present. Then under zero G conditions it sprung back to an unanticipated shape.
...in the 70's, just about every other song contained notably many and various permutations and combinations of the words "baby", "yeah" and "orright". It was a really lame formula and unfortunately it seemed to work.
Well NASA-invented Vanadium redox flow batteries for example.
NASA did an earlier version. VR batteries were invented by Maria Skyllas-Kazacos of the University of NSW, Australia.

At the present time at least, anything more than about 20 bits is lost in the noise so what's all this 32 bits of analog resolution of audio stuff? Just big numbers for advertising if you ask me.
The whole thing makes me think of DNA that contains maybe 3GB of data but contains all the information to produce a human brain, perhaps the most complex object in the physical universe.
Giorgio Moroder not Queen - though Freddie Mercury does sing on it.
+10. I have a Giorgio Moroder Metropolis on VHS tucked away somewhere. Was lucky enough to see it at the cinema in September 1984. Instantly fell in love with Brigitte Helm.
Yeah, we had a bunch of them at a place where I worked some years ago. I had the Test Engineering dept believing I had done something naughty to my scope:-P https://youtu.be/Rd1fUHTtII8?t...
On a related subject, I've often wondered if the inside surface of the anode of a vacuum tube could have a reflective coating to direct radiated IR back to the cathode and so reduce the power needed to maintain it's temperature. Somewhat late with this idea of course.
"researchers from the University of Cambridge have developed robots that emulate natural selection" So these robots have a creator? Why would that need to be the case? I'm sure that situation will sit well with the/. crowd.
One complaint that I've heard of from people who claim to smoke weed is that it can severely shrink one's gonads. I've overheard people at the mall and on the bus talking about how their testes and scrotum shrunk significantly after repeated use of marijuana, for example. I've read the same claim online, too, and I think I even heard a caller to a radio show mention it once.
I'm a competitive swimmer. Does marijuana use affect the size of a man's testes and scrotum?
Smoke weed + swim in cold water = devastating combination:-P

Snake oil as far as everyone there is concerned. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/...
I call rap music "complaining to a beat".

"That 8K (7,680 x 4,320) resolution is 16 times that of your old Full HD (1920 x 1080) TV. " No, it is 16x the pixels but only 4x the resolution.

Don't forget fuzzy logic. Also put the word Blue in there somewhere.
I hadn't noticed that the byline "news for nerds, stuff that matters" has been removed from the home page. Makes my OP somewhat irrelevant. My bad.
Stuff that matters alright!

If you are mentioning Queen soundtracks, why not mention Flash Gordon, he saved every one of us.
And he only had 14 hours to do it. But that was with Ornella Muti telling the world she loved him :-P

Not a bad effort seeing we have only had electricity here for 30 years.
Dang! Beat me to it. The format *y Mc*face seems obvious. Future generations may wonder what we were thinking though.

If these things are just re-purposed solar sails, how are they expected to stay put in orbit? Won't the sun just blow them away?

I wish they could use the waste heat for desalination.
I am an EE. Now I know how real programmers feel when they see my (albeit functional) efforts with Qbasic.

Android has always been the superior technology. Why else do you think it has more global market share than Apple could ever dream about?
Superior technology = market share? That must explain why 90% of people use MS windows and 2% use Linux. Of course.
