Actually, using a shared library between a GPL'd library and code with an incompatible license is not neccesarily legal. Something to do with the dependance clause.
This is really neat, but I have to wonder this.
Why would they build such things without the ability for snooping? There's not enough pressure from the public to do so, and the US government surely isn't going to push for it.
I find this interesting, but do they just take videos of the existing content where they simply do weird things, or do they add additional content to the games? I assume the latter due to the post saying "rendering engine".
How much longer before worms use their own TCP/IP stack? Wouldn't much suprise me, and might be beneficial for getting around firewalls. Might be a cool little project to make a zoo virus that does it.
I don't get it. Why would they go with.NET rather than just writing a C/C++ compiler for it? We're talking about a low-speed embedded device here, a situation where the use of a VM is less than ideal.
Is it just because they want to make the front page of slashdot, or is there a real reason?
Has anyone else wondered if there's a competition between Star Wars and Star Trek as to who can drive their respective franchises into the ground farther and faster?
Why is this being made a java-specific thing? I would much rather see this generalized. Making it language-specific limits its use, especially in the industry... as much as most of us hate MS, we have to admit that being able to use something in C# as well as other languages is a big selling point.
No no no... they're using the cluster as a cache for websites, so that they don't have to edit the posts when people fuck up links, duh. Don't you know anything?
APR is quite interesting, but there are many existing libraries out there that duplicate the features. Any comparisons out there between APR and things like SDL?
You're _completely_ missing the point. There is no way that the MPAA or MS will ever go to an opensource-developed codec, simply because it's not proprietary. They need more ways to make money. It's not a matter of what _you_ use on your computer, it's a matter of what _they_ use on the discs.
They can't afford it now.
Let's start a petition to stop the "Nothing to see here, move along..." errors on nearly every flippin' /. story.

Can it run Linux?
This is interesting, but why would George W. want to do such a thing?
No your not.

So _that's_ why you're not an editor... you know how to spell.
You must be new... you actually clicked a link in an article. Oh wait, you're supposed to click it and not read it... that's the key.
You don't need QT/KDE to run Firefox.
Has anyone else wondered if there's a competition between Star Wars and Star Trek as to who can drive their respective franchises into the ground farther and faster?
Bitch about it being slashdotted, duh.
Right on the day my emails for spam-blocking software were going out. Foiled again...
Render-farms don't need more than 4-6GB RAM, even for the huge stuff they do.

No, because with Linux you don't need X/X.org, and if you do want them, you have the option of not including features you don't want.

But SDL provides cross-platform threading and such. It's been used in many things other than just games (which is why it's not just sound and video)

No, no, no. That's prison. I doubt he's going to Assrape University.
They have the right to do what they want with their software, just as you have the right to write code that's interoperable with theirs.
