What is FUCKED UP about this is that it's probably what is being used by some apartment managers that force prospective tenants or applicants to fill out serialized "do not duplicate" applications which are then signed and sent to the applicant's bank. The bank sends back information about the applicants account. What is creepy is that the language on some of the forms i had to turn down was vague to the point of pretty much allowing or ASKING the bank to (based on applicant signature) divulge Point-of-Sale information.
What is weasely about the managers is as scary is the banks that might not fully inform their employees/customer advocates to the point that even these branch employees have no idea what is being sent. They LOOK at a form on the screen and one even told me that this is "ALL" they send to fulfill such requests, but it is scary to ponder that the landlords will in advance be in a position to turn down people based on their spending (consumption: dining, film, and other purchase) habits. If a manager is in a moral dillema with a prospective tenant, the tenant will likely never know the REAL reason for refusal.
What's ALSO dicked up is that Carl's Jr and other restaurants that accept ATM/debit charge extra. But, use your visa logo striped card and there is no charge. WHy the fuck should our society reward info swappers and restaurants for encouraging consumers to give in to purchasing food on credit, credit which is usually under different privacy terms which usually compels that purchase habits are SHARED. Now, my worst fear about ATM/debit seems to be actually true: businesses are sharing debit purchase information without a process for the consumer to actively deny/refuse it at the point of sale in some places.
a LAP REPLICATOR, or lap accentuator, so those enthralling MacBooks can be more titillating...? Instead of a magnetic attachment, throw in a pneumatic one...
If they can keep ms' grubby hands off of 75 million people, communist government or not, I'm ALL behind them. The corruption, as in any country, will never go away, but hopefully they can de-colonialize themselves of mshaft. It's the only way to TRY to be sure...
So, if this "shot" comes off succexxsfully, is that bank shot a money shot? Will the in-dus-try get more bang for its "buck". Gives a nude meaning or meaning-full-end to "space shot"... What will "thruster packs" cost. Will this space shot lead to a new form of penetrating oil to loosen stuck nuts and bolts? Will these timed jerks yield a new strain of/for "rods of the gods?" Will "da fie ji" (loosely, "launch little airplanes", in Chinese...) become the watchword of the lay, ummm, day?
At what Mach speed will the "first hump" be broken? Isn't it great how technology can "blow your mind"...
decrepit station. Raggedy-ass infrastructure, in the presence of billions of dollars, is just one of the reasons i could not bear to live on the east coast. As far back as 70's movies i've seen, they don't seem to care about improving much. Maybe i'm wrong, and maybe i OUGHT to have had familiarization/opinion-muting visits, but while there are some new and improved trains and stations on the east coast, i seriously doubt that they look 50% as "ok" as BART. I'm not including LA's latest system because it is fairly new, relatively speaking. But i just get NAUSEATED looking at those rat-trap-looking mazes of exits, worn or bunched-up rail ties, and raggedy tiled and drab-painted walls. It makes me think of pea-green/Exorcist-vomit feelings and cheap-sitcom set apartments depicting NYC.
I am sure there is way too much money around NYC has been spent on other things. Maybe the AMTRAK police LOVE their stations but feel too sensitive over that raggedy condition of their work environment. Are there any traveling slashdotters from Europe who can weigh in on this?
Now, i've seen some of the older lines in Tokyo, and some of they surprised me that they were old, like maybe pre-1960 construction, but most of the other lines i rode seemed to be far more modern, relatively speaking.
What kind of natural disaster (hopefully after hours so the least number would be actually drowned or buried...) would it take to flush out some of those old NYC stations so they can get rebuilt? Yeh, i realize that there would be hundreds of thousands of commuters inconvenienced, but the US is way too wealthy for this kind of ragged, nauseating, eyesore infrastructure to exist. Hell, renovating that crap could actually be a jobs-creation program to help pump up the US economy, or at least on the east coast. Well, assuming there is not Amtrak habitrail competing with the rats underground....
That fucking shit pops up on my cell when i enter contact notes, and it has preferential placement at position 1 whereas ABC is position 2. The boneheads pushing or "pimplementing" t9 have earned title of the most hated assholes in my book of tech gripes. My blood pressure goes off the scale when i find myself blindly typing in t9 by touch only to look down and find bullshit gibberish that has NO bearing to what i am thinking or typing. Typos i can live with if i hit sent, but finding umpteen unrelated, garbled, jacked up shit on my screen makes me want to choke people at sprint and anywhere else t9 oozes from. I hope there is a way to eviscerate it from my device/s in future deployments. t9 never learns nor even comes CLOSE to what i am typing. If it learned, it would take note of what i replaced its loony suggestion with. Well, actually, it wont' -- since i escape from t9 before my gasket gets too close to popping.
HP is just being proactive. They feig... umm, COIned the term "Invent" regarding their public side of business. Privately, it seems, they CIRCUMvent.... Let's leave 'em alone to privacy. They're just... venting..
Instead of what Symphony IS, Symphony should have started with Lotus SmartSuite On Steriods. SmartSuite is old code, but if IBM had "Open Sourced" (to make a verb) SmartSuite's parts that IMB unequivocally owns and asked geeks/nerds/devs to restore non-IBM-owned/patented functionality they could try but not the code of, then SmartSuite would equal what OO.o has, and then could have surpassed OO.o by now.
I still use Lotus SmartSuite, in vista, in VirtualBox, in Mandriva. I used to use it in a Mandriva/Win4Lin combo. SmartSuite opens fast, is compact, has non-modal dialog boxes, has nice colors, better WYSIWYG than either ms office OR OO.o.... Best of all, it has the *award-winning* (well, late ~~80s to early 90s) Lotus Approach database. Approach and 1-2-3 and Word Pro can share data, too. Unfortunately, Lotus dropped the ball and lost market share, and IBM picked them up, and didn't foresee or didn't CARE that OO.o was coming along.
Such a sad and almost outrageous state of affairs...
If there is going around a collection basket for a few bucks to contribute to the emplacement of ASW minefields around fibre optic cables, i will seriously consider chipping in. Every 500 feet there should be ASW microwave emitters to fry the fuck out of anyone not scheduled to be hovering, touching or laterally yawing around. Fuck'em. Rad'em. It's the only way to be sure. But, don't blow it up. Fry the fuck out of the crew so they don't make it home. Then, televise the deed and response. Doesn't matter WHAT country is doing the uninvited tapping.
Doesn't help either that i forgot to mention a need for packing glands, sort of like in stern tubes for ships' propeller shafts. these could be air or oil-filled (environmental issues aside...regarding the oil) and inflated to seal out the water.
But, thanks for commenting.
An aside. I'm going to assume that some (pick your favorite) government attacked the cable, but in more than one place. The public, compromised area is the one we read about. The other, presumed undetected attack is where a tap was placed. Some kind of tap many geeks here would claim doesn't or cannot exist. But, i say, "Never say never". People these days get paid very big (or maybe not very big) money to circumvent others' communication systems, sorta the inverse of that ex-Radioman named Walker, who compromised the KW-7 crypto keying secrets for a measely sum.
Who learned to shit in a small bucket?
The closure's an UNLUCKY charm,
It will do great financial harm...
