Hmm, it wasn't too tough for me to get DVDs and other media formats working. Just install kaffeine and company (i.e. libdvdcss) from packman's yast repository. And since it's not apt-get, it won't break the system's consistency. Worked great for me!
Just add this to yast as an installation source, don't forget to refresh it from time to time since they do update it!
Not to mention that it now supports a decent graphics library. It's not ugly anymore, now I believe it uses GTK2. Which means it looks consistent on most desktops with other apps. The previous acroread 5 used it's own graphics library which made it look very inconsistent with other programs.
Here in Ottawa, if you try to hold open the door on our 'O-Train' the door falls off its' hinge and the thing shuts down for an hour. Ever since that happened to me, I've yelled at people for even trying it. These are brand new trains too (only a few years old). Gotta love Bombardier! Designed in Canada, built in Germany (german writing all over the parts), and then used in Canada. I think most people know now to not hold the doors, it hasn't happened in a really long time.
I guess the BBC charges too much for the sci-fi network? But then again, it would be cheaper to pay the BBC than make their own crappy programming (Battlestar Galactica excluded).
Their electronics were also much less susceptible to damage. Look how many transistors we have in a square cm! One rogue piece of radiation can ruin a whole chip. Back in the golden age of NASA they had transistors the size of rodents, I bet you could dunk a space capsule in water and it would still work, maybe I should ask Gus about that...
Plus, where can I see a picture of this 'ground' lightning?
Please do not use an "irrational form of persuasion" on slashdot. We're too smart for that:)
Your irrational form of persuasion was in the form of "guilt by association" which involves the application of a faulty analogy.
You are implying that merely because the United States is becoming slightly stricter with identifying who enters and leaves its' county, that they are somehow turning into the next Soviet Empire.
Another example: "Canada is becoming the next Soviet Union because of the introduction of a strictly government run medicare system"
The analogies one can make are endless.
My personal opinion on this issue is that I don't care if they want my passport, I always have my passport when I leave my country, it's the sane thing to do. If the Americans want my fingerprints though, I'd think twice before going on a vacation there, but I still wouldn't call them the U.S.S.R.!
His claims have been verified by The Globe and Mail journalist Jane Tabor (I heard her verify it this morning on my local radio station, 580 CFRA, in Ottawa). She was present during the testimony, so I would be inclined to trust what has been posted.
Wasting tax payers dollars is what the government is best at.
This inquiry is not about that!
The inquiry's purpose is to find out: 1) Was there money stolen? 2) Who stole the money? 2a) Did anybody from the government steal money? (ahem, looking at you Jean!) 2b) Did stolen money end up in the Liberal party? (which then allowed them to run nasty campaign ads that made the Conservatives look like the hated Republicans, therefore securing them the fickle vote)
Zimbabwians have their democracy in a better condition than us Canadians!
This publication ban applies to all, and only, Canadians.
If I posted it, I may be in trouble (at this point, I doubt it though). Just as the DMCA has no effect on us, this stupid publication ban has no effect on Americans.
So does everyone still think Canada is where you should move to? We have as many problems as the US. Our politicians are slimier than the American politicians IMO. They're bound to get slimey when you have one prime minister in charge for 12 years! He was a creep to begin with though, so that didn't help either.
Have you ever invited a girl over to 'play some WoW'?
I started dating my girlfriend after she checked out my decent sized DVD collection and said that she had the same taste in movies. (it didn't cause her to date me, but it helped 'impress' her)

Are you sure you're not think of Sharp's technology? It's quite different than this one. Toshiba's looks far superior, we'll see.

"ouch" ? Are you one of the film makers? You shouldn't take reviews personally.
and Canada too! The ban was lifted today, so no more worries for us oppressed Canucks!
So why don't they use MIPS (millions of instructions per second) anymore?
2 DVDs? So how many library of congresses is that?
In Soviet Russia, programming contests award you! /ducks

Why punish the hard working engineers who make these products for having overzealous marketing dweebs go over the top?
You might be punishing yourself too by missing out on a potentially useful product. I personally just filter that marketing garbage out.

When I mentioned a 'slimy' PM that has been in power for 12 years, I was referring to Jean Chretien. I apologise for my confusing grammer.
Even having Jean Chretien involved is damning enough to kick the Liberals out of politics for a few years.

What ethical standard? Why should an American blogger follow a Draconian Canadian law?

What about Cedar Point? It's by far the coolest roller coaster park in North America (or even the world).
But... I guess you don't have to LIVE in Ohio to visit the park, so nevermind!
and that's why some people will always choose religion over science. They never have to change their beliefs (unless it suits their current needs).
Ties? It's a Canadian company. I have family in the U.S. but I'm still Canadian.
FYI, Nortel, which is mentioned in the summary, is a Canadian company, not a US company. Canada != U.S.
