What would we do if we did simulate a human brain and it became self-aware? Would turning off the computer be murder? Would it be a form of life? Would it have a soul? The philosophical implications of this would be staggering. The day that this eventually happens will be an interesting day indeed.
You're a friggin idiot. Try living across the street from a meth lab for a while. Enjoy the sight of tweekers coming in and out of your neighborhood, eyeballing your house and vehicles. Yeah, you should start a lab, go right ahead. The fume exposure should do you some good (or kill you).
.....of todays games. I wonder what he would think of "Homeworld" specifically, as that game seems to be heavily inspired by the games that are played by the main protaganist in "Ender's Game"?
That is the dumbest comment I've ever heard. I watched the launch in my high school library as it happened, and I can tell you that, while horrible and shocking, the destruction of the Challenger is nothing at all like 9/11. They don't even fall into the same ballpark. The Challenger accident was just that, an accident. Nobody wanted it to happen, but it did. It was a terrible accident that happened during our quest for knowledge and discovery. 9/11 happened due to meticulous and malicious planning on the part of some extremist followers of Islam. 9/11 killed over 3000 people. People who, unlike the 7 astronauts killed when the Challenger went up, didn't realize they were taking a risk when they went to work (or got on an airplane). Never, ever compare the two, its like apples and oranges.
They must be outta they're frelling heads...Farscape is one of the most original, well written sci-fi shows of the last decade. It was waaaay ahead of "Voyager" and its "temporal anomaly of the week" storylines and I would go so far as to say its as good as or even better than DS9. As for the new BSG being #2 on the list, that seems pretty fair, although I think a few years from now, we'll remember it as being number one.
Might as well bring up the mention of strange matter before some other paranoid ninny does. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strangelet . Unlikely it could be made, but I'm sure the same people who worry about neutron emissions and world destroying asteroids will like this also.
The orginal X-COM: UFO Defense. Best game of its type ever made. Still play it even today! Another good pc game is Subwar 2050. Man those two ate up so much of my time...
Its seems I've played this game before in many different incarnations: Castle Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake 1-3, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Half-Life, Jedi Knight 1 and 2, Star Trek Elite Force....etc...etc...
Seriously dude, if you need something like this to hog up the space that hasn't already been taken over by your huge ass tower, then you may need to re-examine your hobby. There is a fine line between something that is cool and something that is just plain ridiculous.
ok, we'll take Linus, but the rest of you folks living in California.....just do us a favor and stay down there. Nothing personal, its just that right now, Portland is just the right size, not to big, nor to small. Plus its getting really frigging expensive to buy a house or rent an apartment around here. Besides, I'm having a hard enough time finding a place to sit down, read, and enjoy coffee at Powells. Please visit, enjoy Oregon, spend your money and then go home!
Even if you build wind farms, or use solar energy, you will still likely need to use fossil fuel burning energy sources just to build the components you need. You need plastics for both windmill generators as well as solar cells. Once you get 'em built, then you have to have parts on hand to maintain them. So, you probably will have a considerable 'one off' pollution issue in the manufacture of so called non-polluting energy sources. And you will still likely need petroleum products (plastics anyone?) for spare parts or lubricants. Then of course, there are the critics who claim that windmill and solar energy and hydroelectric dams are evil because they interfere with the natural environment or the creatures living within it. We can never be truly 'green'. There is a cost to everything, the best that we could hope for is to lessen our impact as much as possible through well designed and efficient means of producing power, consuming less and improving our recycling methods.

From here on out, all subs will be equipped with miniature Kirk Douglas's armed with spears to fend off these ferocious attacks!

We just may look up and find "CHA" written on the moon someday....
Now if we could just set it up with speakers, mp3 player and a little disco ball......
Girdle and Athletic Cup! GAHHHHHH! I must now wash my eyes!
Perhaps we should send a couple of settlers to the capitol and use them to help finish this Great Wonder!
